Chapter 7 - Chapter 5

∞ Is it that hard to gain trust?∞

'Aunty' Nne yelled from the parlor as she and Chelsea arrived home

"Aww... My sweet darlings" aunt moji rushed at the two damsels giving each of them a peck on their cheeks.

"Aunty, biko we aren't babies" Nne voiced out, reluctantly accepting her aunt's warm peck.

"Only you will complain" she turned to face Chelsea "my dear go shower and come down for lunch later"

Nne sprawled on the sofa tossing her bag on it. "isn't food ready? I'm starving"

Aunt moji shook her head "Aren't you going to wash up first? Later our aunty here will be calling my bum boy glutton when she is area mother"

"Ok o, " she murmured in defeat. She hated when the true fact of her being a foodie

"what about your two buddies? Why didn't you bring them back home for lunch, you know I've missed their hilarious company"

There was silence

"Nne" aunt moji called again to be sure she wasn't speaking to a ghost.

She moved closer to her from the dining to where Nne had her eyes closed feigning a sudden sleep on the couch right where she left her before and almost immediately aunt moji spanked her buttocks, she sprung up at once.

"Ooo... " she groaned "Auntie stop asking me pointless questions na. If you miss them that much, the door is open! Ah!"

Nne dashed to her nearest escapade as aunt moji rushed at her. They ran round the parlor for several minutes like little children until they drew to a stop to catch their breath trying to control their laughter.

That was their twin sister code for you. Most times when aunt moji and Nne stood  one will mistake them as twins; aunt moji being very young with her unnegligible childish display most times though she had drop two boys at a go (she bore twins)

"But Auntie, come to think of it. Isn't this really unnecessary? To me, I feel like Chelsea is living in bondage"

"Ah, haba! You wouldn't blame her mom. Everyone takes their children as their eyes"

"No, I think this is different" Nne adjusted herself to sit upright where they have already had themselves seated at the laundry room " I think it's lack of trust in her. You need to see how hurt this girl was when she opened up that she was under probation in her mom's custody; it threw me off balance. It kept me pondering endlessly" she looked away, lost in thought on her own words.

Aunt moji sighed as Nne continued "You parents wants us to trust you but why don't you guys consider your trust in us? I'm sick and tired of hearing the same old stories all over again. Me and a classmate happen to cross incidental paths according to stories we heard from our mothers we both kept running away at the sight of boys so as not to get pregnant since we have started menstruating. Why such silly words when the one who wants to get pregnant will still will no matter what. They might think they are helping by not telling us the real truth but they're actually doing the opposite"

Nne paused as she noticed the strange, simple warm smile that wouldn't leave her aunt's face. "Aunty..."

"I'm so impressed that my Ada is turning into a lawyer overnight, yet when I asked her to participate in her school constant debate competition almost every year, she bluntly refuses"

Nne cheeks turned red

"But on a more serious note, the danger of this world had lead to lack of trust in kids. For Chelsea, unfortunately girls tend to suffer more of overprotection because of our Nigerian society today. No one said you shouldn't protect them but too much of everything doesn't surely have a good outcome"

Nne shrugged and aunt moji laid her hands on her shoulders "My dear, no matter what. Always try to do the little thing you can do to help her feel among, listen to her and  try to be her solace in one way or the other. Remember that even the littlest of things matters a lot than you can ever imagine"

Foot steps sounds of someone coming down the stairs were heard.

"Now go freshen up, I think the food on the fire is getting burnt already" aunt moji scurried along to the kitchen.
