Chapter 25 - Injury and Loss

Nose diving at the first Marine ship, I crashed into the deck, the wood cracking from the force, reinforcing my fist with Haki, I slammed my arm onto the deck, completely breaking the ship in half.

Jumping away, I floated in the air before setting my sights on the next target. I created an ar blade with a roar cutting another ship in half as a geyser engulfed the vessel. There were five ships left, including the two galleons.

By now, the Marines realized that I was a threat, and they started to target me. Their bullets did nothing more than annoy me, so I unleashed my rage on them. When they fired a cannonball at me, I covered my shin with bone armor and Haki before kicking the iron ball back at them.

Now there were only four ships left. I could see that the Moby Dick started to turn and make a run for the opening. The boat was in the worst shape I had ever seen it in. One of the masts was on fire, and holes decorated the sides.

That when I saw Kuma holding his hands overhead, gathering a large bubble of air that slowly started to shrink. Without a second thought, I rushed to intercept the attack. Even with Whitebeard on board, the ship wouldn't survive the shockwaves from the clash.

As the air bubble left Kuma's paws, I roared, flying straight into Kuma's attack, bringing my sword down to pop the bubble. Even though I reinforced my blade with Haki, it wasn't enough. The blade shattered into shards, one of them embedded into my chest.

I had a sweet taste in my mouth as blood bubbled from my lips. Contracting the muscles around the metal shard, I pulled out the obtrusion, and my body started to heal.

Looking over my shoulder, I could see that the Moby Dick was out of range. I was ready to join them when a net came flying at me.

Holding out my hand, I blasted the net away with my arm but more kept coming, preoccupied with the traps. I couldn't see the harpoon that pierced through my chest. Growling, I formed a bone blade on my forearm, cutting through the rope before tearing out the spear.

I needed to calm down my mind wasn't calm enough to use Observation Haki, forcing my heart to stop, I regained control of my body. I had to escape, not stay and fight. I could always come back later and get my revenge.

My heart started to beat again, and just as I was about to fly away, I could feel a presence behind me. Turning around, I held up my arm as Kuma was in the air behind me. My eyes widen when I saw his padded palm reaching for me. With a single flap of my wings, I avoided his hand with a hair's breadth.

That put me directly in line with another net. I wasn't fast enough this time. I could feel it immediately as the net touched my skin it was made of seastone.

My wounds stopped healing, but I could still fly. When I was under the effects of seastone, it only stopped me from changing my body, not undoing any ongoing ones.

My strength was draining by the second, and I started to fall. I tried to fight, but the net was weighted, and with all the blood I was losing and the sea stone, my future was bleak.

Just as I was about to hit the water, I heard a bird's cry and looked up I saw Marco in his Phoenix form. Outstretching his talons, Marco caught me, and I grinned as we escaped.

I cursed as I hit the deck hard, hearing some of my bones break, "Soren, my God, help me get the net off of him, and someone go get some food." With bleary vision, I could see Bane kneeling over me as he got rid of the net.

I sighed as my devil fruit powers started to work, healing my body, but I started to go negative. I didn't have enough nutrients to heal my wounds, and my body started to cannibalize itself.

I only experienced it once before, and it was the worst pain I'd ever felt, but this time it was worse.

"M-my...pocket..pills." I hoped that Bane understood what I was telling him as I coughed up more blood. And just when I thought I was going to die, Bane forced open my mouth and forced a pill down my throat.

I gasped as my body went positive again, and I started to heal my skin, regaining its color, "Shit, that was bad. I wonder if giving birth hurts more."

Bane laughed, but it was shaky, "How the hell can you crack jokes at a time like this. You had a hole in your chest, and your heart was missing. Do you understand Soren, you didn't have a heart!"

At that moment, someone placed down a bowl of congee, and I pounced on it like a starving man. I fished the bowl in seconds, but I was still famished, "If anyone needs me, tell them I'm raiding the kitchen."

The next day was somber. We hadn't lost anyone, but the ship was in disarray. Our masts had burned down. Everyone pitched in to help with repairs, but we would have to find a port to get her back to one hundred percent.

I groaned as I held up one of the masts as one of the Shipwrights named Theo secured a metal brace around the pole, "Okay, you can let go now, Soren."

I let go of the mast and was glad to see that it stayed in place, "Alright, now we can start moving." Sighing, I sat down to take a break, and I faltered when I went to touch the sword that was no longer with me.

I needed to get a new one, a sword that wouldn't break on me ever again, I need to go ask Whitebeard if I could take a vacation.
