"What is it feels to travel back in time?"
As a famous historian in Japan, Ryouma wonders about that question every single day. His curiosity often conquered his mind, making him not concentrating on his work. This could be dangerous for his career. His friend Sakata often worries about him.
One day, Sakata invites Ryouma to his house. Ryouma gladly accept the invitation and went to his house the day after.
"Well, not gonna lie. Your house is pretty good, Sakata." Ryouma said as he looks around his living room
"Well, thanks for the compliment," Sakata replied as he brings over tea and snacks to the living room.
As they enjoy the afternoon snack, they talked about many things. Then, Sakata began to ask a question.
"Is there anything that bothers you these days, Ryouma?" Sakata asked as he sips his tea
"Hmm? No. Nothing in particular…" Ryouma replied as he tried to hide the facts.
"You sure? You know that I can read body language, right? Don't lie to me. You can tell me everything." Sakata said as he leaned forward
"Well, you got me there. Alright…As historian, have you been wondering what it feels like to travel back in time?" Ryouma said as he began to get serious
"Now that you're talking about that, I'm wondering about the same thing…" Sakata said with a confused tone
"I know, right? If there's any way to do that, I would like to do that…" Ryouma said as his curiosity rise.
As they talked in the living room, someone has watched over them from the hidden cameras in the living room.
"This person will be a good candidate for this..." he said as he watched them from the monitors in a secluded room.
The clock shows at 10 P.M.
"Well, it's already late. See you tomorrow, Sakata." Ryouma said as he put on his shoes
"Yeah, and take care," Sakata replied as he hands over his umbrella.
Ryouma smiles at him and opens the door, opening his umbrella and walks home under the rainy night.
After Ryouma waves his goodbye at him, Sakata enters his house and walks to the basement. He then enters a room full of monitors, showing video feeds in the living room. A guy sits on the chair, rewinding the video footage a few times for something.
"Found anything interesting?" Sakata asked the man while leaning back on the wall
"Yeah. We can grant it if you know what I'm talking about…" the man said as he pauses the video and looks at Ryouma at the monitor.
"Yeah, wanna do it tonight?" Sakata asked while approaching the monitor
"The faster we do it, the sooner we can finish our project." The man replied as he stands up and looks at Sakata
"Alright, then. I'm gonna place the device on Ryouma by tonight." He said as he prepares himself.
"Yes, and be careful out there. The storm will hit hard by midnight." The man said as he gave Sakata his wireless transmitter
"Heh, don't worry. I have the professor of Lightning and Thunder over here." He said while laughing at the man
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever…." The man said as he went back to his chair
The time shows 11 P.M. as Ryouma arrived at his house. He took his shoes off and immediately jumped onto the bed and fall asleep.
A few hours after he went asleep, Sakata arrived at his house. He enters from the window in the living room. It was dark inside. He slowly walks towards his bedroom and found him sleeping.
"Well, you said you want to time travel. We'll grant that wish now…" Sakata said as he takes out a device from his pocket.
He then put a small circular device at Ryouma's neck and then talked to the transmitter.
"I placed it on him. You can start it now." Sakata said to the man
"Alright, see you in a month." The man said as he starts the machine
As the man started up the machine, the device on Ryouma's neck began to light up. And a few moments later, Ryouma began to disintegrate into nothing. Sakata, who watches him disappear, feels a bit proud of his achievement.
"Have fun there, my friend." He said as he exits the bedroom.
As Ryouma travels in time and space while sleeping, the man appears beside him.
"We're gonna save the world, my friend. And make your dream come true." The man said as he looked at sleeping Ryouma.
He then looked back at the space tunnel as they travel back in time.
A few hours later, Ryouma was awakened by the winds.
"Why it's so cold….?" He said as he wakes up and found himself on a ship
"H-Huh??? Where am I??" he said as he looked around in confusion.
Then, a man in a suit came towards Ryouma with apples on his hand.
"So, you're already awake?" the man said as he sat down beside him and gave him the apple.
"W-who are you??" Ryouma asked confusedly
"You're asking me? You're such a funny guy!" the man said as he laughs.
"W-well, you may be a famous person here. But I really don't have a single idea of who you are…" Ryouma said while eating the apple.
"I see…Alright, I'll introduce myself. My name is Nikola Tesla, and I don't need to tell the rest of my story." He said as he looked at him
"W-wait. Nikola Tesla? The one who invented the AC system?" Ryouma asked in shook
"Yep, That's me," Tesla said while smiling.
"T-Then, I must be in the past?" Ryouma asked again
"Yep, and we're currently on the boat to New York City. And the year is 1899." Tesla replied to his question
"W-wait…So, I traveled back in time???" he thinks in himself while looking around.
"Is everything ok?" Tesla asked him
"Y-yeah! Everything's fine…" Ryouma replied to him while looking back to him.
"Ok, good. Now, I need your help." Tesla said as he stands up
"Huh? For what?" Ryouma asked
"Before that, come with me…" Tesla said
"Alright…" Ryouma said as he stands up
Ryouma follows Tesla to the lower deck. Everything runs as usual. But, there's something wrong with the situation.
"As a historian, you should know what happened here…" Tesla said as he took Ryouma to look around.
"Hmm…." Ryouma thinks as he looks around, then he noticed something.
"Lanterns? Why they still using these? Isn't lightbulb already been invented?" Ryouma said as he found out what's wrong
"Yeah, that's right. Something is happening in this era. See if you can figure it out." Tesla said as he looked at the lanterns
"Is…Is something happened to the inventor?" Ryouma said after he thinks about it
"Yeah. Something is definitely happening to Edison, my friend. He was supposed to invent the lightbulb in 1879." Tesla said with a serious expression
"And that's why you bring me to New York? But why me? I'm just an ordinary historian…" Ryouma asked him.
"Well, that's because…you're the only one who understands the situation," Tesla replied all of his questions in one sentence.
"It is true, though…" Ryouma said as he looked back at the ceiling, feeling weird of the absence of lightbulbs
"Yes, and since you came from the future, you should know the solution to this," Tesla said as he taps his shoulder.
"I guess you're right…" Ryouma said as he looked down
"Don't worry, together we will correct this mistake," Tesla said as he tried to cheer him up.
After a few hours on the sea, they finally reached New York. Little do they know; someone is watching them from the top of the Statue of Liberty.
"So, they're here, huh?" an unknown man in red hoodie spies on them from the telescope.
"Should we greet them? They're pretty sure gonna like my new invention." said the man in a suit and red eyes as he generates electricity from his hand
"Not now, Edison. We'll spy on them for a bit longer. This will be fun~" the red hoodie man said as he smiles.
