We just had our preliminary exams and everybody will be relaxing for the next few months before our next midterm exams. In between exams break, the school usually has social events or academic activities for the students. Since, the school already held a social events recently (Mister and Miss United Nations), they will be going to hold an academic activities this time.
A couple of days after the exams our class adviser announced to the class about the quiz bee competition. All students are encouraged to join. It is voluntary and no GPA is required to join. Students would only need to register, take and pass the elimination test and after a few days the list of the students who pass the test will be announced. The list will be posted in the bulletin board of every student organizations of the school. It is just one elimination test that will cover all subject matter. Those who have made to the list will proceed to the next round of the competition and it will be a quiz bee program wherein students, staff and teacher will be watching.
After the announcement is made, students who are interested to join have another week to study for the elimination test. I want to join but I choose not to tell anybody yet including my brother. Although, he has a hint already because he always see me lately spending most of my time in the library after class and even at home I am still doing some reading and studying. He never bothers me though, he is very supportive, sometimes he brings me snacks, and milk and if I stay up late he let the lights on when he sleeps.
The elimination test will take place for four days. Freshman students will take the 1st day, sophomore students will take the 2nd day, junior students will take the 3rd day and lastly, the senior students will take the 4th and last day of the test. The next day the list of students who will move to the next round will be announced and posted.
It's the 3rd day of the elimination test, when I woke up my brother already left for school. Before I had my shower I saw a big note in our calendar board. The message says, "Good luck today, I am sure you will pass!" The note was from my brother.
For students who will be taking the elimination test they are excuse to attend the morning class today to give them more time to study and prepare for the test. I went to school after lunch. The test will starts at 2pm and we have 2 hours to complete the test. I did not study anymore in the morning so I just relax and enjoy my time. I came to school an hour before the test, registered myself and the organizer asked to wait in the holding area. I see a lot of familiar faces from my class as expected since we are from the morning and model section class most of the participants should be coming from our class too. We are all friendly and supportive to each other.
I finished the test on time. I was not rushing nor would like to finish it too early. I want to make sure that I answered all the questions and still had time to go over it again. I could not say the test was easy but it's not difficult either. I am confident with my answers and I only wish I made it to the list.
Announcement day, the result will be released by 12noon. The bell rings and students are rushing to come out of their classroom. A lot of them are going to the canteen to avoid the long queue but some of us especially from our class go straight to the designated campus bulletin board to see who made it to the elimination round of the competition. I am walking towards there when I saw my brother running towards me, he is in a hurry to approach me and says, "You are in the list, I am very happy for you! I am going to tell our parents about it immediately once we get home!" I am shocked and cannot believe what he said so I still proceed and see the list myself. I quickly looked up for my name and it was there.
My brother and my friends drag me away to get lunch and celebrate.
After lunch, while waiting for them to come out from the toilet I decided to go for a short walk to the bulletin board. I am curious if Gilbert made it to the list under the senior's level. I am quite sure that he took the test since he is from the morning and model section of his class.
I know exactly his full name and the list should only be short since ten students per high school level are allow to go through to the next level of the competition. So it will be a quick run through the list for me. I saw Gilbert's name in the list. He made it through.
Still overwhelm by getting through the competition, I decided to see again the list posted and I also would like to know who are the other nine is. I turn my head around and walk towards to the next bulletin board, I saw Gilbert and he is looking in the list. I wanted to leave quickly and maybe come back later but we are just a few steps away from each other so I don't think it will be a good idea to leave without being noticed and I think he already saw me looking at the list so in order to avoid the misperception I still proceed. He turns his head to me and says, "Congratulations, you made it!" He caught me in surprise and did not expect it so I said, "Huh? Ahm, yeah thanks! Ahm, congratulations to you too!" He said, "So did you check out the senior's list too?" I was startled and did not actually expect the question. Before I open my mouth for my response, he quickly said, "I actually did the same, see you in the semi-final round, Toni!" And then he walks away.
