Emery had spent the last four hours tirelessly casting his spatial gate, ferrying over half a million Valaryn civilians to the relative safety of checkpoints. He had just finished transporting the last group from checkpoints six to seven when a frantic message from Lyanna shattered his focus.
There was a high probability that Agis's elder dragon would be coming for him.
Emery stiffened. Fighting the dragon without its rider might not have been the worst scenario under normal circumstances. But there were more pressing concerns, the evacuation was still underway, and he could not afford to let the civilians be caught in the crossfire. More troubling was the realization that the dragon would likely not be the only threat sent after him.
Realizing the growing danger his presence posed, Emery decided to excuse himself from the mission.
