Chapter 9 - A Cross Roads of Sort

A half a decade had passed since I had been back to Texas and I truly wished I didn't have to go. The last time I was there was when I found out about my bonded and my father. It still made me sick to think that my father would do something like that to my mom and me.

Like me and Isabella, my father and mother hadn't been true mates but had been bonded, never the less. However, growing up, they had seemed to be in one accord right up until that disgusting moment.

The image of my father and Isabella, wrapped around each other still blazed through my mind from time to time when the pull for a mate became too strong to ignore.

The worse part was that they hadn't even attempted to pull apart when my mother found them in that compromising position.

Isabella's betrayal had hurt! I often wondered what it was about me that she had found so repulsive that she would choose to lie with the older version of me. I caught a glimpse of my reflection in the limo window. There was nothing of interest staring back me.

My features were too feminine. High cheekbones, long eyelashes, and dull brown eyes with flecks of green stared back at me. I was a stone model.

I was often told that if it wasn't for my oppressive aura I would look like any other vampire. I sighed and refocused on the paperwork for my meeting in Texas. There were a lot of things to consider between now and then.

There was nothing in my life these days that sparked my interest. Since moving to Boston, I had worked around the clock; making sure that none of our 32 branches suffered after I kicked my father out the agency.

It had also taken me almost this long to purge my father's influence from the company. The limo stopped at the station and I stepped out; inhaling my last breath of solitude.

On the Red Line

My eyes popped open to grey metal walls and a throng of people surrounding me. I jumped up looking around in alarm. For a second, confusion clouded my mind as I tried to figure out where I was. Then in the next instance everything came flooding back. I was on a train trying to put as much distance as possible between my parents and me.

Now that I was fully awake, remnants of the nightmare floated through my mind. Upon reflection, it was mild compared to the reality. I sighed deeply as memories of that horrifying day came surging back in vivid detail.
