Chapter 8 - Elf Boys' Name

A hex bolt? I remember the name appearing in front of me when I first shot out that blue energy. So that's what out of me. At least now I can show Freya what I'm talking about. But should I? What if she reports me to the government or something and I get experimented on?.....No, that guy earlier used magic and everyone saw it, so I bet it's normal to use it. This is all just so weird.

Ok, how do I use this hex bolt?...nothing? I was expecting a tutorial or something from the system. Fine, I'll try on my own.

Freya was almost done with my bandages so I decided to hurry up and try it before she leaves.

Alright, the last time I did it, I was fighting that golem. What did I do that shot out that hex bolt?

The golem was about to crush me and that's when the hex bolt shot out of me. How do my powers work? Hmm.

I held out my hand towards a candle. Freya glanced at me but said nothing. I concentrated and focused on what the energy looked like and what I felt before. A bright fluorescent blue.

What if I-!?

My thoughts were caught off as a bolt of blue energy fired from my hand and towards the candle, snuffing it out. Freya jumped at the sudden disturbance and looked at the candle with shocked eyes. I was more surprised at her expression than me using magic.

Huh. Didn't know she could be surprised.

She stared at the candle for a while with disbelief in her eyes. After a while, she turned and looked at me with a confused expression. I couldn't help myself from giving a smug smile that yelled "I told you so".

"H-How did you?" She asks disbelief in her tone. She glanced back and forth between the candle and me trying to discern what she saw.

"But I saw your system. You had no MP, which means you can't use magic. How are you able to use it?" She asks. I shrug at her question.

"I thought what I was doing was just normal magic, I'm guessing not?" I ask her with uncertainty. But instead of an answer she looked away at the candle once more and looked to be deep in thought.

"What's wrong?" I ask her, wanting an answer this time. She glances at me and then my bandages before going back to her stern face.

"Everything's fine. I've finished wrapping your bandages, try not to move around too much. I need to attend my own business" She gets up and walks out leaving no room for any questions. Something's up. She had her stern look on but there were little hints of confusion in her features.

Once again, I was left by myself with only my thoughts to keep me company. I close my eyes and let out a sigh and felt my muscles relax, I didn't realize how stiff I was. For some reason, I felt exhausted. You'd think sleeping for three days you wouldn't be tired, but I was. I willed myself to stay awake and grabbed my shirt putting it on. My bruises didn't hurt as much which made me happy because I was getting better. Some good news.

I decided that I wanted some fresh air, this time not trying to draw too much attention to myself. But this time I was prepared. As I walked out of the tent I kept my hands up ready to fire a bolt in case something comes at me again. But as soon as I step out of the tent my hands were met with a face. Elf boy?

"Umm. Can you remove your hand from my face please?" I hear him murmur under my hand. Oh right. I instinctively remove my hand from his face smiling in an apologetic manner murmuring a sorry.

"Why did you have your hands up?" He asks me with a brow raised.

"Well you know, in case an arrow comes flying at me again," I replied looking around a bit nervous.

"Wait, what are you doing here?" I asked him confused. He was basically outside my tent. At the question, he seemed a little surprised but quickly covered it up with a small smile.

"I felt bad that you got dragged off by Freya, so I came to rescue you from her clutches," He says chuckling. Rescue me? From her?

"Thanks, but I have her handled hero,"

"Are you sure? She looked a bit pissed when she left the tent,"

"Don't worry, that's just her resting b*tch face. Very effective by telling people to leave her alone,"

".....resting b*tch face? What's that?"

"Wait, you don't know what that means?"

"No, you said she has the face of a female dog?"

"Where have you been??? You don't know what 'b*tch' means??" I ask smiling as if it was a joke. All I received was a shrug. Is he messing with me, or is he just acting?

"Well, forget about it I guess," I say looking away from him. This place is weird, where the hell am I?

"-ame?"

"Huh?" I asked him. He chuckled at me. What's so funny?

"I asked, 'what's your name?'" He says smiling at me. Oh.

"My name is Noname, what's yours?" I ask him smiling. Still getting used to my new name.

"Aster," He says holding out his hand, "Nice to meet you."

I took his hand, it felt warm and was a bit calloused, plus his grip was strong. I could tell he held back from grabbing me too hard.

"Likewise. Sorry for grabbing your ears before," I say to him while trying my hardest to not laugh. His ears were still red, they almost looked like they lit up.

"It's fine, I was wondering if you wanted to come and join some of my friends for stories at the campfire?" I accidentally snorted at the offer. He looked confused but caught on to what I laughed about.

"We aren't telling bedtime stories if that's what you're thinking. Just retelling adventures we've been on" He says smiling. Hmm. I suppose this would be a good way to learn where I am.

"Okay, I accept your offer," I say to him. He smiled in reply and told me to follow him. Everything from earlier seemed to have died down. The only attention I got was side glances and subtle stares. Even then I still felt a bit uncomfortable. Everyone seemed to have quite down as it was soon approaching night time. All that was left was light chatter and the occasional group laugh. Elf boy who I now know as Aster led me to a campfire that had two guys and three girls. One of the guys saw me and Aster approaching and called out.
