Chapter 1 - Prologue

"I can't stay in this relationship anymore", Conrad told his wife Margaret. She caught her husband cheating with another woman.

"Why!? What's wrong with me? Am I not good enough for you Conrad?" Margaret asked her husband, crying in the situation they were in.

"I apologize. I will be calling our attorney to take care of our annulment; this will be for our betterment as individuals Margaret," Conrad murmured.

Margaret could not stop crying, many things entered her mind at that moment she never nagged him, sure they fight but they usually patched things up after a few hours, it would be considered a severe one when it lasts one day as what happens in most healthy marriages. This time, however, was not a regular marital issue a third party is involved and not just a third party.

"Margaret… Listen closely and listen well. I got Carmen pregnant."

"Pregnant? What about our son Conrad! We have a child for Christ's sake! Why are you even choosing that woman! Have… have I not been a good wife to you!" Margaret at this point has lost her composure while Conrad remained calm despite being the one at fault in this tense situation.

"I just…" Conrad lost for words at what to say to Carmen.

"Look at me Conrad, look at me!" She approached and forced him to look into her eyes. "I don't give a damn whether you leave me for another woman. I don't. But think about our son he is only four years old! What would he think when he finds out his father left his family for another woman!"

"Margaret… I can't stay out of guilt, guilt because I cheated on you and guilt because I got Carmen pregnant. You do not deserve a man like me."

She continued crying, pounding her fists on Conrad's chests.

"I love you, Conrad! I love you! I forgive you! Please let's save this marriage; find a way to support your other child. Don't leave your family."

"I've made up my mind. Don't worry I will support Brian. I will be a father to him, but I am not worthy of being your husband anymore," Conrad turned away from her and went to their room to pack his things, preparing to leave his wife and child.

"Conrad!" Margaret went to their room to stop him.

A door from another room opened that night but the person inside only took a peek at what is happening. The little boy at the tender age of four is not privy of the events between his parents but he somehow knew something was not right because he could see from the little gap of his parents' room that his father is packing his things and his mother crying and trying her best to stop him from doing so.

When he saw his father coming out with his suitcases and bags packed, he ran back to his room continuing to look from the gap of his door.

Conrad rode his car the engine audible to Margaret and the boy

Once Margaret realized that her husband's mind is made up all she could do was weep in despair.

Seeing this the boy went out of his room to approach his mother.

"Mom, what's wrong? Why did dad leave with his things?"

"Brian!" Margaret wiped her eyes of her tears "Dad is just going somewhere far. That's all,"

"How long will he be gone?"

"I don't know Brian. I don't know,"

"Mom, why are you crying?"

"It's nothing, Brian. I'm fine; see?" Margaret forcing a smile on her face to assure her son.

Margaret proceeded to embrace Brian, his small body could feel the warmth of his mother enveloping his tiny body, "Don't worry mom and dad love you. No matter what happens okay?"

"Okay, mom. Can I go back and sleep now?"

Margaret nodded, "Okay Brian! Good night," Margaret kissed Brian's forehead and he proceeded to sleep in his room.

Meanwhile, Margaret went to their room, looking at the section where Conrad's clothes and things used to be. Seeing one shirt left in the cabinet, she started weeping again getting the shirt from the rack and hugging it tightly.
