Chapter 23 - Ch.23 Building a house

After a night of partying with the other guild members due to him buying a piece of land, Jax got up in the early morning. Why? Because it was time to start his house!

Making his way to his newly bought land, he had already made a basic plan on how he wanted his new home to look. He hoped that in the future, he would have friends or guildmates over. He planned to make the house excessively big so that anyone could stay would the need arise. He planned on having three floors above the ground and two under.

Arriving at the land, he immediately started working. Using his earth magic, he began by making a giant rectangular hole, deep enough for there to be two different floors. This hole would be his two basement floors. Thankfully, since he would do everything with his magic, he wouldn't have to worry about everything falling on itself, and the boy just needed to make everything as best and perfect as he could. Afterwards, he would be able to iron out the smaller details.

However, even with magic, it would take a long time to dig such a big hole. As such, he started to work on the land around what he planned for the house. However, as it took him an incredible amount of concentration to make sure everything went perfectly, he merely used his nature magic to grow up the vegetation in the land's surroundings, more specifically where he would make a road.

After working with his nature magic a bit, he stopped and focused solely on digging the pit. Anyway, he had a lot of time and nothing to do.

This way, a few hours went by and finally, he had taken dug about how deep he wanted it to be. Moreover, at some point, he had stopped digging and instead had compressed the earth in the surrounding walls and the floor to make it harder.

Finally, when Jax emptied the hole, he jumped into it and started the more detailed work, ensuring everything was straight, be it the walls or the ground, as he didn't want a slanted house. After confirming that everything was right, he ensured that all the corners were also 90 degrees to make a perfect rectangle. With this done, he made a wall made of wood with his nature magic separating the room into two. One of the rooms had 75% of the space while the other one had about 25%. The bigger room would be the storage room, while the smaller one would be a wine cellar. He didn't know why he needed a wine cellar, but the older guild members said he should build one and that he would appreciate their recommendation in the future.

After finishing separating the room, he used his magic to extend the wall's wood to cover the ground, the walls and create a ceiling above. Creating everything took a long time as he had to develop a weird-looking tree with branches like planks, and he also had to make sure everything would hold correctly without any cracks in the wood. By the time it was noon, Jax had finished the second basement floor, and he had to move to the first basement. However, considering it was already noon, he decided to go to the guildhall to eat something before continuing.

Using his nature magic to close the hole completely, he left and went back to the guildhall. As he arrived, he found the members fighting with each other like every other day. Smiling slightly at their antiques, Jax stopped at the counter, and after receiving his favourite food, he started eating.

He had barely started that some other members came to Jax. "So, how did building your house go? Is it hard?" Macao asked as he laughed.

"It's a bit hard in controlling everything, but I think it's going pretty well. Up to now, I have finished digging for the two basements, and I have also finished the second basement. After eating, I'm going to do the first basement to finish the base of the house. Tomorrow I'll move to the floor above ground." He answered as he drank his apple juice happily.

"What? You're already done with one floor completely?" Shouted Wacaba, who came closer when he was answering Macao.

"Yeah, it was pretty hard compressing the earth to make it harder and to create a weird-looking tree which would serve as floor, walls and ceiling. However, I must say that it looked pretty good if I say so myself. Not to mention that I made it more durable so that I can send some weak fire magic or simply set a magically powered fire lacrima to eat up the floor to keep warm during the colder time." Jax replied cheerfully as he rapidly finished his meal, ready to go back to work.

"Do you mind if I come with you? I'd like to see how you build your house." Asked Macao as he was intrigued at how Jax was doing something which was known to be extremely hard with relative ease.

"Sure, why not," Jax answered while he got up and went to the door of the guildhall. "Well, you know where's the land, so feel free to come and visit whenever you want." He said before flying away with his air magic.

Back in front of his house, he moved out the wood that blocked the hole and jumped back inside. Confirming that everything was as he left it, he went to the south side of the hall and created a spiral staircase. The stairs were a slightly bigger tree branch in the middle and some smaller branches, which made stairs all around the main one.

After finishing the staircase, he arrived on the first basement floor. This floor would be a bit harder to do since he planned to use it as a home gym and a magic testing field. The foundation that was big enough to have a professional soccer field, 110 meters long by 75 meters wide, was once again separated in two, with the home gym having the same space as the cellar on the second basement. As for the magic training field, he would need to strengthen the walls, ceiling and floor as much as possible against all sorts of attacks.

As such, he started. Having already separated the two rooms, he began to strengthen the walls by injecting his magical power inside. He inserted his nature, fairy and sound magic inside the walls to not only reinforce the walls but also to give them a restorative property. It was something he had discovered when he had previously used both his nature and fairy magic together. As for the sound magic, it was to give the wood an isolation property to keep the noise from spreading to the others in the house when they trained.

After spending every bit of his magical power on the walls, he restored it and did the same on the floor and the ceiling, which was also the floor of the first floor. Just to be sure, after he finished strengthening the floor as much as he could, he launched a fire attack directly at the wall and was pleasantly surprised when he saw that the wall had barely burned down and that it was restoring itself with the naked eye.

Happy with the floor he had built, he turned towards the staircase and made it go up again. The magic had ultimately strengthened this staircase due to being linked to the two basement and the first floor. After all, he didn't want his house to burn into flames or to be drowned by the water or burned by electricity the moment he used his magic.

As he left the basement, Jax looked up at the sky and noticed that it had already started to get dark. Macao and the others had passed by previously when he was strengthening the basement. However, now that he had reinforced the first basement, Jax felt unsettled about not strengthening the second basement as well. As such, while there was still some daylight, Jax turned back into the second basement and spent four hours entirely strengthening the deepest floor of the future house.

With everything reinforced, Jax showed a smile as he looked at the progress of his house he had done in a single day. To avoid having his work demolished by some people with nothing to do, he covered everything with his nature magic. Jax then went to the guild, which was still open at this hour, to eat a bit before sleeping. He had worked a lot that day, and the next few days would be the same. As such, Jax went to his temporary apartment to sleep early and be ready for the next day.
