Chapter 5 - Third Quest, School!

First Main story quest complete! Thirty Low Ranked Fragments obtained!

My eyes bulged out of their sockets. Thirty Fragments wasn't much 15 years later, but by today's standpoint, I was one of the richest human alive. That was because of the fact that there was a 『Contract』of peace between humans and monsters for the past thousand years, with only the brainless ones out of that contract.

With the brainless ones living only in the Monster Realm, Fragments were hard to obtain. The only ways to get them was by trading or hunting in the Monster Realm with a expensive license, and even then would only gain around 15-20 within a lifetime, and even then it would be considered a success. What I'm holding in my hand is worth more than a man's life.

I'll have to use this well. I tried to pocketed the fragments, but I couldn't fit all of them into my two pockets. It was too eye catching anyways, I have to find another way to store them....

Would you like to activate the Inventory?

Yes No

I stared at the panel. I don't think there'll be any harm trying it out. I extended my hand and pressed Yes. Suddenly, the panel morphed into a larger panel filled with grids.

I picked up a rock nearby and held it close to one of the slots. In a blinding light, it seems like the very essence of the rock was being sucked in. All that was left in my hand was a handful of moss that was previously attached to the rock. Most likely that only things that can be placed in there are non living things.

Items: Rock

I looked hesitantly at the panel. I have something else to test first, before I can trust this. There was 37 icon spaces, and there was a Next Page button, which I assume would contain 27 more pages, if my math was correct. I touched the rock icon that appeared in the grid. It shined brightly as it appeared in my hand, seeming the exact same as the one before, but without the moss. I dropped it to the ground. School was starting. I had to make a choice soon, as swarms of students would be coming this path to school. I shoved all of the fragments into the grid and watched it vanish.

As if understanding my actions, the panels asked a question.

Close inventory?

Yes No

I pressed no, and focus on the task on hand. The unconscious girl laying on my lap. School was starting, and I couldn't exactly carry a sleeping girl in to my class. I could drop her off at her home, but I don't know where that is except for the fact that it was close to the school. I had no other choice.

I held her sleeping hand and grasped it tightly, with my thumb on the center of her palm. From there, I injected mana into her body. I heard a weird sound coming from her mouth, but thought nothing of it. As expected, my mana wasn't even close to enough to shock her awake. I hesitantly touched the icon containing one Fragment. I gave them I quick count before I realized five was missing. That damned system. I grabbed a Fragment and crushed it within my hand, and within a matter of seconds all the shard of the crystals went into my skin.

A red hot sensation filled my body, and I discover that my mana pool and strength has increased by more than a hundredfold. My mana pool was now ten times the size of Elena's right now. I pressed deep into her palm and injected my mana into her. With her completely recovered, she should be able to wake up.

As if on cue, she sat up and looked around, until she saw my face. She shrieked, as I covered her mouth with my hand. "Quiet down!" She started thrashing in my arms and screaming. I sighed and knocked her out again. Screw this, I'll just leave her at the nurse's office. There's nothing I can do about her screaming anyways. Anyone would be scared if they wake up from a stranger's lap.

{Invisibility}. A spell that lets light particles go through your body completely like glass, but is much better at it than glass, for with the spell I won't reflect any light particles. I spent extra mana to cover all of Elena. With my mana pool, I can hold it for up to a hour. With this, I ran to school and made to beeline straight for the nurse's office. I dropped Elena off at one of the beds, and went to my class.

Speaking of which, where is my class? I looked around, but I had no good memories of this place. I don't remember any friends, any teachers, no one. Just then someone hung his arm around my neck. "Sup Naoko". I looked at the speaker's unfamiliar face. I'll have to stay silent to find out his relationship with me.

'"Haha, stop playing dumb, where's the money I told you to bring?" After saying that, his arm tightened around my neck. I remember now. Fujikawa Takashi, a genius within this school. While not on the level of power of Elena, he was still much stronger than the average student of his age.

I took a deep breath out of my nose, and wondered what to do. Whatever I'm about to do, the first step would be to push him away. I jabbed my elbow into one of the sides of his ribs. He let go while howling in pain. Whoops, I forgot to control my strength. Even though it was just a light tap of my elbows, children usually don't train their bodies until they were 16, because spells and expanding their mana pool was of higher importance.

He laid on the floor foaming from his mouth. I think I broke a rib or two. Whatever it is, it wasn't my problem. I activated {Invisibility} and walked to the teacher's office to ask for my class.
