Chereads / The Legion / Chapter 5 - A Risk Worth Taking

Chapter 5 - A Risk Worth Taking

"How so?" asked Colby. He hadn't noticed the dark mist coagulating. Was Coro planning something?

Coro smiled sensing his thoughts. "The imps are about to mature" he said pointing at the mist that was flooding into the campsite. As if in response to his statement the darkness began taking shape all around the imps. Colby was excited as well. To be able to watch demons evolve, how few got the chance! They sat back and watched the darkness take shape.

One by one the imps evolved. The five separated from the others were impossible to discern the changes, but the other fifteen were a different matter. They slowly elongated stretching out to be the size of a human. Their black wings grew bigger in proportion to their body. It happened quick and the fifteen familiars began waking up one by one.

As they woke up they looked to Coro for instructions, as they weren't sure what they should be doing. "You may just rest for now." Coro stated. The familiars had very little personality. Coro inspected one of them.

Familiar lvl. 1 (Max lvl)

Abilities- None

Evolutions- None

He expected as much. They were useful to him as he could always use the manpower, but a normal warlock would not want to expend the cost of so many familiars. Hence, why imps were rarely summoned by warlocks.

Mox walked over and sniffed each of the familiars. Satisfied with his findings, he walked to the front of the group and sat waiting on the other five to finish evolving.

Colby admired them from where he stood. "Those seem quite capable, but you don't seem impressed by them." he stated.

"They are the most common evolution. Although they seem strong now, they will never get stronger than what they are currently."Coro replied.

Colby could see why he wasn't impressed now. They would be useless in a lvl. 5 world, if they could never be stronger that what they are now. He looked back at the group of five laying before him. Two seemed to be finishing up, and he couldn't wait to see what they were.

Even Coro was holding his breath, watching as the shadows slow dissipated from the bodies of the demons. After an agonizing wait his first two arch-demons could be made out. Two Succubus were laying on the ground. As they began to wake up Coro inspected them.

Succubus lvl. 1

Abilities- Fire Manipulation, Fire proof

Evolutions-Lillim

Succubus lvl. 1

Abilities-Water manipulation, Fire proof

Evolutions-Lillim

"Two Succubus with abilities,"he said "I must be the luckiest guy in the whole warlock clan!" He admired them from where he stood. They were both drop dead gorgeous, unfortunately for all men, they would eat you if you tried anything. One had bright red hair, and the other had a silver hair. Their eyes matched their hair colors, and they had a natural armor wrapping around their bodies. That being said their outfit was quite revealing.

Colby was dumbfounded. He expected two hideous beasts not two beautiful women! They were mesmerizing. He stepped forward to go speak to them, but Coro reached out a hand to stop him.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you. They will kill you without a doubt."said Coro. "It's how they hunt, you see." He walked over to the succubus and held out his arms. They came forward and hugged him. Colby felt jealousy rising up in him.

"Father are you proud of us?" asked the fire succubus.

"Extremely! And you can control an element as well!"Coro was ecstatic. No matter what this was enough to make him satisfied. "I expect nothing less from my kids."

He would take good care of these two from now on they would be useful far into the future, maybe even with leading positions in the guild. His smile wouldn't go away for anything.

Coro looked on as the three remaining shadows swelled up in size. Oh? They were a rare class? Most classes were the size of a human thus the shadows size didn't have to increase. However, when rare classes showed up more of the dark energy needed to be absorbed to finish the evolution. This had to be the best day of his life! Most warlocks were lucky to have one rare class in their life. He was fixing to have three!

The cost of raising these three was going to be enormous though. That was without a doubt. He could imagine how voracious their appetite was going to be. But all rare classes were worth it.

"Why did the shadow get bigger?" asked Colby

"The size of the shadow is related to the size of the demon." he replied. "These three will be part of a rarer subclass of demon."

Colby was shocked. Now he got to witness a rarer subclass of demon as well? It was his lucky day. He watched the three shadows intently, to see what was born.

One of the shadows stopped expanding and slowly started dissipating. It was time to see the first rare class. After waiting for ten more agonizing minutes, the demons shape could be seen. It was a little larger than the average human standing at 6'5". It had large muscles, especially in its arms. It had claws for hands and a head that looked like a dragon. The demon had skin that looked like it belonged to a reptile. It was unknown to Coro. He quickly inspected it.

Tormentor lvl. 1

Abilities- Taste of pain, fire proof

Evolutions- Lacerator

Taste of Pain? thought Coro. The system responded immediately.

Taste of Pain- Every time the creature deals damage or is dealt damage, the damage of its next attack is increased by 15%. Stacks up to 4 times.

He hadn't heard or read about this class, thankfully the system's inspect ability would help him out in these situations. But he just couldn't stick with the name Tormentor. He needed a name that was less menacing, his appearance did that sufficiently by itself. The demon knelt before him.

"What would you have of me father?" it asked.

"From now on you shall be Lamech." informed Coro. "Go wait with your sisters, for now."

"Yes father." said Lamech, walking over to the Succubus.

Colby was dumbfounded. This demon was too much! It had the shape of a silverback gorilla, and it was obvious that anything hit by it would be severely injured if not decimated. Its eyes burned with a bright intensity, and the sheer number of teeth was mesmerizing. He would make sure that he doesn't get on the wrong side of that one.

Coro looked back at the final two demons that had yet to be born. The next shadow was starting to dissipate and signified another rare-class demon was about to join the group. He watched with a held breath overwhelmed by his luck thus far. As the shape came into view he broke into a smile. It was a demon he was familiar with. He inspected it with the system.

Juggernaut lvl. 1

Abilities- Fire proof, Magic proof

Evolutions- Ravager

A tank class demon, he thought. He was around 7 feet tall, weighing roughly 350 pounds. Two horns protruded from his head, curling around to protect the sides, as well as his forehead. It had a thick hairless leather skin, that wrapped tightly thick muscles. There were four fingers on each of his hands, with short nails extending out like daggers. If he lowered his head and charged, who knows what it would take to stop him.

It approached Coro, before kneeling in front of him.

"You will be known as Dagon from now on," said Coro.

"Yes, father." he replied. Standing up he walked over to his brother and sisters.

One left, thought Coro. He had hoped for a pit fiend. However, it would have appeared by now if it was. The darkness rushed towards the last demon even more fiercely. Causing the pool that hid its body to swell in size even more. This was something Coro had never heard of. Whatever this demon evolved into, it would be more powerful than all the others that came before it.

When the pool of darkness reached 10 feet in diameter, the shadows began dissipating. Its legs were the first thing to come into view. Two powerful legs were slowly becoming more visible, giant hooves could now be seen. The shadows continued to reveal more of the demon. His upper body was coming into view now. Massive arms were connected to thick muscular shoulders. Several horns extended from its skull, creating a spiky crown. It opened its eyes, and stood to its feet.

Colby was stunned, it stood nearly nine feet tall!

It's eyes were a bright blue, with slitted pupils. He looked at Coro, awaiting instructions. It could not kneel, even to his father. A being such as himself knelt to none.

Coro inspected it with his ability.

Arch Demon (Ruling Class) Lvl. 1

Abilities- Fire proof, Magic proof, Teleport other

Evolutions- Unknown

Coro grinned. "I shall call you Abaddon." The risk paid off well.
