Chapter 3 - chapter 2 - escaping hell

Alexander's pov

week had passed since I began brainstorming of ways to get out of this hell hole. Zeus and I have come up with an idea we think will work, well at least we hope it will.

I have been observing my parents discreetly, watching when they leave the house and how long they are absent from the house. You are probably wondering why I am only paying attention just now? I guess I had no hope that I would escape, so I just wallowed in my sadness. Zeus gave me hope that there is a better life out there for us and to be honest, anything would be better than this.

I discovered from watching my parents, that my father leaves every day an hour after I prepare breakfast and my mother leaves at noon or later most days, to hang out with her friends I suppose. I couldn't care less about what she does, just as long as she doesn't ruin my plan, by changing her routine.

I have decided to leave this coming Friday, the only issue is that the warrior wolves that guard the pack's territory might catch me if I'm not careful and that will only end badly for me.

"It all be ok, the moon goddess has a plan for us" Zeus spoke

"I hope so, but I can't help but feel like this is going to all go wrong" I muttered to Zeus

"Once you choose hope, anything is possible, remember that" Zeus ensured

" When did you become all-wise," I giggled

" I have always been wise, you just haven't noticed" Zeus responded

" Sure" I replied sarcastically

We began to erupt in a fit of giggles and snorts. Zeus always seemed to make me laugh even in the darkest of times. I just knew we could get through this together.

It was now Friday, I had packed the small number of personal belongings that I had in a small bag, that I would be able to carry in my wolf form. I had already made breakfast for my parents and was just waiting for them to leave, so I could get the hell out of here.

I heard the door shut for the second time, signalling my mother's departure. I quickly exited my room, with my bag in hand. I checked to make sure no one was home and left through the back door, towards the forest.

I placed my bag down on the floor and began to shift. All that could be heard were the cracking of bones and the wind blowing the sweet earthy smell of the forest. The transformation was a bit painful because I haven't been able to shift very often. They wouldn't let me.

My wolf was a beautiful pure white with icy blue eyes and was on the slim side as i didn't get to eat besides the scraps given to me.

I loved being in my wolf form, it made feel like I was free. Running as a wolf gave me a sense of clarity and allowed me to relax in my own skin. I wish I could feel like that when I was in human form, but I just felt empty and unable to relax, wondering when the next beating was going to be.

"Maybe there is someone out there to feel that void," I thought but immediately dismissed the idea because that was very unlikely.

I picked up my bag with my teeth and ran into the forest, getting further and further away from what I used to call home. I ran and ran trying to create distance between the pack until I felt a burning sensation in my lower calves. I had passed the boundary line with no mishaps thankfully, only the slight pain of disconnecting with my pack and becoming rouge. I felt like I was going to pass out and decided to search for a place to rest for the night.

In the corner of my eye, I spotted a small cave covered in vines and other plants. I trotted over to the cave and had a look inside, surprised that it looked so well kept. I moved the plants out of the way with my paw and hesitantly went inside. The cave was very dark only with the shine of the moonlight to illuminate the cave. I found a spot and curled up into a ball.

"It's so cold," I thought and curled further into myself to preserve my body heat.

My stomach growled loudly, I whimpered and tried to forget how hungry I was. I haven't eaten much in weeks, only little scraps that were given to me. I wanted more, but I knew if I asked for it I would get beaten for being ungrateful.

------------------------

I awoke to the sound of rain pouring outside of the small and damp cave. I stretched my front and hind legs, hearing them crack slightly from the lack of use. I poked my head outside of the cave, trying to remember where exactly I was. It looked like the middle of nowhere to me, but then something caught my eye. A lake.

'Maybe if i follow it, it will lead me to a town or city of some sort' i thought

"What do you think zeus" i questioned my wolf

" sounds good to me, maybe we will find our mate" he said excitedly

" maybe" i giggled

When the rain stopped pouring and was only trickling, I began my journey to my new home and life.

'I hope there is something out there for me' i thought as i ran along the side of the river jumping over rocks and logs, as I went.

-----------------

It felt like I had been running for eternity, however it was only 2 and a half hours. Just as I thought maybe I should stop and turn back, i saw a light shining through the trees.

I followed the light and arrived at a deserted road with brightly lit street posts.

I started following the road, to find a place to sleep for the night. As I kept walking, houses came into view lots of them. They were massive and looked very expensive, I had never seen anything like this before.

'Where am i' i thought

" somewhere better than the shithole we used to live in" Zeus piped up.

" your right about that Zeus"

" I'm always right" Zues said with a smirk in his voice

" sure you are" i said sarcastically, trying to keep myself from laughing.

I couldn't hold it in any longer and erupted into a fit of giggles, Zeus joined in not long after.

I ventured into what looked like a large town of some kind, much fancier than back home. When i was walking i made sure to stay in dark parts where people couldn't see me, don't want humans to have a heart attack from seeing me in my wolf form.

I saw an extremely tall building with an alleyway on the side. There was a huge sign on the building that read Sinclair Architecture,

'Mmm i wonder what that's about'

I carefully snuck into the alley way, making sure not to be seen by anyone. I saw a large trash bin that had a little space for which I could sleep and still be hidden.

My wolf form was quite tiny for an adult male wolf, I was probably the size of a wolf that was a teenager. I never knew why I was so small, but I didn't care to be honest.

I walked over to the bin and curled up in the little corner on the right of the bin, which had boxes to keep me hidden from anyone that might walk through this alley.

'Let's hope not" i thought

"Goodnight Zeus" i whispered

" Goodnight Alexander" he whispered

I fell into a deep sleep, with thoughts of a better life.
