Chapter 1 - Ordina Online: First Steps

*Tss Csp* "Synchronization in progress. Please remain calm." After a short wait in utter darkness, a bright flash of light filled Kai's sight. Of course, his eyes were closed. He was entering his virtual reality capsule. Third son of the Baeschere family, Kai was an eccentric boy, and grew up into an eccentric man. Today he changed his life in an unexpected way.

Normally Kai would start his day off with an SSS grade nutrition fluid to wake himself up. This would be followed by eight to ten hours of martial arts practice, followed by the consumption of an X grade nutrition fluid, and lunch. His lunch was his brunch, and was usually around 1-2 pm. He would then proceed to study scrolls, scriptures, and ancient arms and armor. Kai Baeschere was the epitome of eccentric billionaire in this world, where even firearms had long since died out.

Kai, however, was accepted by his loving family without ridicule. Aside from petty jests laid upon him by his brothers and sisters, no one chided him for his dedication to what he loved. Which was combat. Kai held a reverent fascination with ancient arms and armor, and the martial arts of long dead civilizations not because they themselves were interesting. It was because he loved combat, with a burning passion. And in his own words, if all five of your senses wouldn't be stimulated, you were not in combat.

Today, however, Kai did not train in martial arts when he woke up. Instead, he went online and read a particular forum. He could have done so from inside his new premium capsule he'd had delivered the night before, but he wanted to save the first time entering that capsule for his first time entering the game. This game was everything he'd ever dreamed of. And money brought advantages. Not every player would have a capsule. Much less a premium capsule stocked with X grade nutrition fluids.

The game had announced it's release suddenly, with no marketing what-so-ever. They provided four options in hardware to play. A virtual helmet, a premium virtual helmet, a virtual capsule, and a premium virtual capsule. Kai's capsule was custom designed, to hold exactly a thousand times more nutrition fluid than most other premium capsules. It had cost him a pretty penny, nearly 1 billion credits. Luckily for Kai, his personal fluid assets were in the ballpark of 600 billion, and the nutrition fluid alone to fill up this tank was priced at precisely 1 trillion. If you could even find someone to sell you 10,000 X grade nutrition fluids at the market price of 100 million.

These fluids were legally classified as a restricted resource, and the families who manufactured them were legally obligated to provide 1,000 of each S, SS, SSS, and X grade fluids to the distribution hub annually. They could, however, produce however many they fancied. And production was quite simple. They also did not expire, nor did they require any particular temperature for storage. At any given time the Baeschere family, whom was one of the three families that produced top grade Nutrition fluids, held no less than 1 billion of each grade of nutrition fluid within it's private assets.

Thus, no one in his family bat an eye when he requested a large quantity be delivered to his private estate in preparation for his new hobby. On the contrary, his eldest brother was ecstatic. While completely supportive of Kai's hobby in martial arts an ancient arms and armor, Trace Baeschere often worried for Kai's future. His brother showing interest in a modern invention such as this new Full-Dive Completely Immersive Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game was heavenly music to Trace's ears. In fact, Trace pulled several strings to ensure Kai could be the first player to log directly into the world to avoid his brother's culture shock of being surrounded by thousands of gamers immediately upon logging in.

*Wuuummm* "Integrated communication with host's neural synapse. Host identified as Kai Silver Baeschere. Host's body analysis as follows- Height 6'6, Weight 211Lbs, Hair color Black, Eye color Black, Skin tone Alabaster. Would host like to set current body as default avatar?" The mechanical voice lacked all emotion, but this was to be expected. Kai had set it in his owner's control panel before entering. It would have been awkward to listen to a machine with emotion and inflection within it's voice clips.

"Confirm, set current body as Default Avatar. Additionally, scan body for Basic Attribute Integration." This was a feature of the premium capsule. The owner could scan their body, and would be given basic attributes upon character creation. *Vrrrwrr* A silver light passed over him from head to toe and back again.

"Host's Basic Attribute Integration complete. Host's Trait and Talent identified and unlocked. Bloodline discovered within host's body. Host's body exceeds basic parameters, extending to advanced parameters. Host's body exceeds advanced parameters, capping host's Basic Attribute Integration at Advanced Maximum Value. Life support system online. Nutrition system online. Connection to the server established. Priority Queue key confirmed. Proceeding to character creation."

*Ding* "Please choose your class." Without hesitation, Kai stated "Warrior." The mechanical voice continued. "Please choose your race." Kai paused only for a moment. He'd been debating between two. Beastfolk, and Human. "Human." He'd gone with comfort in the end. He was unsure of how well his martial arts would work in a non-human body. "Please choose your preferred weapon and armor types." Kai needed no time to think before he replied. "Great Axe, and Heavy Armor." *VRRR* "Please choose your name." Kai was stumped. Did it not already know his name? Was he supposed to use a different name? This had not been mentioned on the forum. He took nearly a full ten minutes to decide. "Gorwyn!"

*Bvvvvm* The world materialized around him as he took his first steps into the world of Ordina Online. A beautiful and peaceful village lay before his eyes. Complete with dirt roads, wooden buildings, and not a machine in sight. The atmosphere ruined only by the next thing he heard.
