Her lungs felt as if they were burning and she realized that she had balled her hands into fists. Her breaths were coming hard and fast. Her vision blurred and for a while she thought that she might be clocking out forever. But the moment passed as suddenly as it had come. She slowly unclenched her hands and sighed. Sometimes it felt as if the entire world was on her shoulders. After taking several deep breaths, she eventually felt a loosening of the tightness in her chest. By the time the elevator doors had opened, she had calmed down.
Karma recited, "I must listen and not speak. I must listen and not speak."
The cackle of laughter greeted her as she pushed her office door. Donna and Superintendent Hellbent were rolling with laughter and holding their stomachs.
"I hope that I am not the butt of your jokes ladies," Karma asked with a half smile on her face trying to read the police woman's motives.
"Yes you are," Donna replied.
