Chapter 2 - Chapter two || A mother's celebration

Chilled and soundless, the once white painted room is tainted with a thick red colour of a liquid dripping down from its walls. The smell of the metallic rusty was overcome by the Hyacinth scent, filling the room thickly.

The room was slovenly, marks on the walls from a sword's slashes, the furniture scattered around, a clear display that a fight had happened here.

There were ripped fabrics from clothes on the ground, clean cut from a knife. There, in the middle of the room, a woman and a man, their clothes ripped and soaked in each other's blood, their swords laying on the ground near them.

The man's right hand grasping the struggling woman's neck, her body hovering, hold by his grasp only. Her crimson hair fell from her shoulder, hands grabbing the man's wrist in an attempt to loosen the hold.

Victoria Gainsborough could feel her vision blurring, her breaths are getting quicker and smaller as her airway's slowly getting blocked. She cringes as the grasp gets tighter, draining her whole energy away.

The man's radiating hazel eyes sharpen as he saw her lips trying to form words, his own lips biting back his own insults.

He was the Duchess's known son; or rather, her late husband's son as that's what he wishes to be called, and not her son. How ironic, how she entered the family that murdered her mother and now a Gainsborough is also going to kill her.

She herself is now a Gainsborough.

Is he a Gainsborough now? Well, tomorrow he wouldn't be one, married off to another family. Killing your own mother before your bride's happiest day, he really does truly loathes her.

She saw all the servants witnessing her weak state and runs away in fear, perhaps not knowing her son's underlings chasing them from the shadows. She couldn't imagine the fear for them, to see the infamous strong woman of the nation's life depended on the tip of the young master's finger.

Victoria lets out a rasped voice, a wince that could barely be heard. She was loosing conscious quick, the face of death shoved to her own.

"Why aren't you fighting back now?" He grunted, knowing Victoria could have wiggled her way out of her current situation, even if she would die from blood loss from her stab wound.

However, instead of answering, her pale lips stretched into a light smile, like a proud mother. Tonight, the spoils were all his, why not she celebrates it with a small smile? Finally doing a mother's duty before her death.

Her hands fell, it brushes against the silk material of her nightgown. She hardly had any strength left to lift a finger, her eyes swollen as her vision spins, nauseous. Within a second unnoticed, her conscious escaped her.

David Gainsborough lets go of her bruised neck, her lifeless body harshly hits the ground with a large impact sound echoing within the chamber's decorated walls.

He couldn't hear the small hurt noises the makes anymore, signing her life force leaving her vessel.

He stares in pity at his mother's corpse, his fingers threading through his platinum uneven blonde hair, ignoring them being drenched in the thick red liquid.

The sword next to her was hers, a gift from her cousin on her 18th birthday. She treasured it so much that she even brought it to her bed sometimes.

But that same sword she loved so dearly is now the sword that has caused the vital wound on her stomach.

He had no choice but to do so. It's against his desire to attempt otherwise considering she had never act like a proper mother until her last moments to him.

He despises the last kind act, sympathizing over a minor reward that is not even enough to compare to the lack of love given to a child for them to grow normally is the last thing he would do.

[Mission failed]

His wild-like eyes reflecting the system's notice. His eyes go wide, shock by the

notice.

How... did he fail?

"Open description" He spoke out in a whisper.

The words fade away like cremating flowers, replaced with new words, a paragraph of information.

Repeat the mission?

Requirement [2 players]

Player(s): Victoria Gainsborough, David Gainsborough (previously Lynch Hudson)

Select ["David Gainsborough [], Victoria Gainsborough []"]

He couldn't read the first sentence, the words were blocked by a glitch text that made it impossible to make out what the system was trying to say.

He wasn't sure what's going on, he was absolutely confident on his mission being completed neatly without any mistake. Yet how is there an option to restart his mission?

'Two players?' Would there be more than one player than himself? How would that be possible? Victoria is listed to he one of the players, is that a bug?

He felt his gloved hands brushing against his leather robe's pocket, he inserts his hand and fiddles with the pocket clock inside.

David opens his lips in the attempt, whispering the name of his own reincarnated character from a novel he had read in his previous life, "David Gainsborough."

A loud ping noise filled the room.

" System Notice (!)

A bug has appeared, impossible to submit the request. Attempt to fix it by a proxy? (there might be some parts missing or mixed.)

yes [] No[]"

The missing parts would only be minor things, he thought; and as so, he confirmed on repeating by saying yes.

In an instant, David fell, his back feels heavy and pressured, forced to crouch down in an uncomfortable position right next to a dead body. He yelped in surprise, the sound of boisterous ringing stings his ears.

He gasps, the wretched feeling and the similarity from the first time his soul was moved from his original body came back, penetrating his insides. He held back a scream, the hallucinations of several memories he had experienced flashes before his eyes like a broken projector and vanished in a flash.

A default voice conversed out, "Welcome back to the game, David Gainsborough."

[Confirmed: Victoria Gainsborough choose David Gainsborough, David Gainsborough choose Victoria Gainsborough.
