Chapter 7 - Chapter 6

The following few days, while I was hanging out with Denise, I noticed Chase hanging out nearby and glancing my way.

He waited until I had opened my locker before approaching me and placing his hand on top of it.

"You are Inez." With one hand in his pocket, he spoke.

"Yeah," I said nervously.

"Good, I just want to clear that up. Well, my name is Chase."

"I know, uh, hello." I laugh a little. "Thank you for saving me in Mr. Lovato's class."

Everyone was looking at us, including Jada.

"You are welcome...Hey, I have a ticket to see a movie."

"Really?" As I pulled out my note, I uttered.

"You are interested?"

"You want to take me out on a date?"

"Well, my friend had tickets but was unable to attend." Blinking, he continued. "Anyway, it's this Friday. Can I come and get you?"

For a while, I was unable to speak. Who wouldn't want to go on a date with Chase Parker? I was not sure whether to answer with a yes or a no.

I'm a Dhampir, remember? I couldn't approach him because if I did, many lives would be ruined. I also can't be with him. It's against the law to fall in love with humans, especially if it's Chase Parker.

He asked calmly, "What? Every time I look at you, I know you feel it too. You can't hide it. It's too late." Even as he spoke, I continued to look at him. "I'll see you later." He added.

Denise walked over to us and yelled, "Hey!" She introduced herself, saying, "I'm Denise." Before returning to me, he turned to face her.

Chase said, "Hello, I know who you are," as I cleared my throat. "I will see you guys later." Leaving my locker, he said.

I said, still trembling, "Bye."

Denise drew nearer to me. "Oh my gosh." She laughed.

I asked, "What?"

"The hottest guy just talked to you without you seeking attention."

"No, no, he just asked about Abraham Lincoln," I said. I closed my locker.

"Abraham Lincoln? Seriously?"

I respond, trying not to laugh, "Yeah."

"You both aren't even offering history."

"I know, but it's true," I said.

"Okay." She said as she rolled her eyes. Together, we moved through the corridor. "He better be nice to you or I'll break him." She added. As I tucked my hair behind my ear, I chuckled slightly. "You know, in this world, there are two kinds of girls. Those with high school boyfriends, such as you and girls like me who are awaiting college."

I replied, "I don't want to date someone in high school."

"I know, but if he approaches you, you can't say no."

"Well, I can. It's up to me, and besides, he's not the one for me."

When the bell rang, it was time to leave, but I didn't leave until 6:00 since I had to see the principal about how poor my math grades were. I will be walking home today since my dad went out with his car.

I took a shortcut through the woods and began walking. The wood was peaceful.

A few minutes later, I heard a scream. "Help me, someone help me." I ran towards where the sound was coming from. The scream got louder. I stopped when I saw a figure biting a woman's intestines and flesh.

On instinct, I yelled. "Hey, get off of her," I said bravely as I threw a stone at it.

When I saw his face, I was in shock. The monster finally stood up and growled. He was huge and he looked at me. I saw the blood and got tempted to feed, but I didn't want to be a monster. I'm not a monster. I remind myself. I started breathing fast as I moved back step by step, swallowing hard. I turned and started running. I ran without looking back to see if the beast was chasing after me or not.

"Mom," I screamed, as I ran into the house and shut the door behind me. Panting, I used all the locks in front of the door to secure it even more. "Mom-I-I saw a beast." I stuttered. "I think it followed me from the shadow world," I said, panicking.

"Calm down, baby." She approached me and placed her hands on my face and hugged me. "That's not possible; the Silas brothers can't pass through the barrier."

I released myself from her grip. "What are the Scilas brothers?" I looked at her, confused. I had no idea about anything or everything that was happening.

"It's a who, not a what." Dad interrupted.

"They are the psychic bloodsuckers, and they can sense prey the moment they feel you are insightful." Mom continued.

"You, as an immortal, can also sense them and see them, but humans can't unless you give them the vision to." Arden intervened. "So, since you are not dead, yet... they are not here." He added.
