She knew this time that if he wasn't going to shoot before, he was going to shoot now. She thought of how to save herself but the sound of a gunshot and the pain that hit her stopped her thoughts. Darkness enveloped her as she fell backward and hit her head on the hard cold floor.

Izzy felt herself come out of the darkness, her eyes opened halfway, everywhere was a blur, there was an excruciating pain all around her body but especially in her shoulder, on her back, and her head. She felt as though she was in a moving vehicle. There was something on her mouth like a tube. A man who was dressed in a paramedic uniform squatted next to her, she moved her eyes a bit and saw Jeremy, sitting rubbing his palms together and murmuring something nervously, his eyes were red and watery. She wanted to tell him she was okay but she was too weak to move or talk. Her whole body ached.
"Jeremy" she whispered before going back into the darkness.
