--The Nydisian Kingdom, The Castle, Past Midnight--
The halls of the castle were quiet except for the occasional flicker fire on Lady Evaline's torch as she quietly turned into a corridor. She tried to push open the door to Lucian's study but it was locked and after several tries, she banged the door harshly out of annoyance.
"Who's there!" One of the guards that entered the corridor shouted. Evaline cursed inwardly as she had not intended to be that loud.
She flicked her hair over her shoulder and placed one hand flat on the door, making it look like she was using the door as support. "I didn't mean to alarm you," Evaline said as the guard came into her view. "I was on my way to the kitchen to get some water when I tripped over myself," Evaline explained, rubbing her bare feet against each other.
