The maids who had been put on kitchen duty were dutifully slicing up the wild boar as they were getting ready to smoke the meat.
They were truly exhausted seeing as this was the second meal they were preparing for supper. Not too long ago word had reached them that the King was going to dine separately, and he wished to have boar meat instead of what they had already prepared.
It was almost time for supper and Beatrice, the head housemaid, had just finished coating the meat with spices and was just now putting the meat into the fireplace. "Hurry with the potatoes, Hadassa," Beatrice called out to her youngest daughter, who rolled her eyes as she cut up the potatoes.
"Yes, mama," Hadassa quickly finished with the potatoes and placed it next to the meat in the fireplace. Just as she moved back to the table to begin cutting mushrooms, her elder sister, Hanina, excitedly stepped into the kitchen.
