(Jack's POV)
Interesting. Standing by the dock, watching the seemingly vacant crystal clear water ripple as I throw a rock in watching it disappear once it's a few inches under. Clear, but not at the same time, huh. Just then Alex alerts me that it's just about time. Fucker. Could have gone without hitting me, but whatever. We speak for a bit before climbing up a huge tree with ladder-like branches. I climb up and sit beside Alex. "I have questions and want answers." Before I can get any answers I hear some twigs snapping loudly from the forest and jump down, looking up at Alex.
"What, not comin' down to help???"
"Nah, you got this." She says as she stretches out and continues, "Show me what you got."
I roll my eyes. "Alright, whatever." I go quiet as I hear running on the treeline before watching around 30 figures emerge.
Leviathans are nasty creatures. Rows and rows of teeth, saliva dripping from each set and long, razor-sharp claws that look to be more like talons. Tall as well, nearly seven-feet. Their mouths open up in four ways. They're terrifying creatures, bloodthirsty too.
I run towards them, a fire lighting in my eyes as I use my fire displacement magic to set my crimson red handheld axes on fire, swinging them in a blazing fury, hoping they'd eventually go down. I behead one and the body goes limp, the head begins rolling towards it, but I punted that Son-of-a-bitch into the trees. Now I know how to drop them. I take a few hits from behind, but eventually those 30 leviathans are three, they make it to the safety of the lake.
I turn as I hear Alex start to slowly clap and say sarcastically, "Wow, great job you almost got
'em all. Time for round two though. Did you really think that was it? You're far from done." She sits up and puts her finger over her mouth as I start to speak and I stop, hearing a small twig snap and I prepare for the second wave.
I see two bright red katanas dropped at my feet and look up, "I don't need those."
She sighs and rolls her eyes. *CRACK* My head snaps around at the sound of the breaking branch. Definitely not prepared! I watch as hundreds sprint from the treeline and I don't hesitate to grab the katanas off the ground and to my surprise, they light up in flames as soon as I pick them up. Those axes definitely would've been a death sentence. I sprint into them, taking them out groups at a time until they have me circled. This is how I die. Day one of training. Imagine that. I won't go out without a fight though. I swing wildly until they knock the flaming swords out of my hands and pile on top of me, scratching and screeching trying to get through each other to me. I close my eyes tightly knowing what's to come.
Time slows and what is just a moment, feels like forever, but before I know it, the weight on top of me is gone. I open my eyes slowly and see boots standing right in front of my face. "You okay Jack?" She asks, sounding worried and slightly out of breath. "I'm fine." I grumble as I stand up. My eyes go wide as soon as I see the scene surrounding me. Ashes covering the ground everywhere they were at, and twelve beheaded in a circle around me, their black blood glimmering in the grass around them. "H-how? What did you do to them?" I stammer out of pure shock and confusion. Void of emotion, she turns around and shrugs as she starts walking away, "This time again tomorrow." No! I need answers!
I run after her, grab her wrist and pull her back around, "No, you're not leaving yet. I have questions and I still want answers. I demand answers."
She pinches her nose and exhales in frustration, "You'll have to wait and figure out answers for yourself. Some things you don't need to know or have the right to know yet. You can ask me questions, doesn't mean I'll answer and doesn't mean I have time either." She pulls her wrist free from my grip and walks toward the woods, with a bright white flash of light followed by a white streak, she disappears into the trees.
Where is she going? We have school in like twenty minutes. Also, what in the hell was her problem? All I wanted was answers. Now I'm not only still clueless, but hurt and clueless. Fuck, I better go clean up before classes or I'm not going to hear the end of it, especially if I look like this. I jog to my house and take a fast shower to clean the mix of black and red blood streaking my body. Stepping out of the shower, I hear a faint tap like something hitting glass. I quickly and quietly get dressed before grabbing the pistol I keep under the sink and searching the house room by room for the sound. I finally get outside the living room and I hear it again, but much louder. I whip around the corner and take aim at where the noise was coming from. "Hah." I chuckle at my stupidity and paranoia, "Just a fuckin' tree." I shake my head and mumble at myself over the stupidity of what just happened as I finish getting ready to head back out. Plain red t-shirt, black jeans, my nice black leather jacket, and a pair of black high tops. That's all I need. Wait where's my bag? I search around until I find it by the door already and look at the time. Fuck it's already 5:00. I'm late. I run the twelve blocks as fast as I can and make it in the door at 5:15. Fuck. Fuck. Fuuuck! I walk into the gym and people are already paired up and sparring with each other. At least they're occupied. "JACKSON! YOU'RE LATE!"
I groan and roll my eyes before walking up to Mr. Dipshit Daniels, the huge angel in charge of the class. "That's not my name. Now what do you want me to do?" I say, letting the irritation become clear with my voice.
"Why don't you start by fighting that mop in the corner?" I hear other kids snickering. Do it. Torch his ass. Kill them all. It won't matter here. I clench my fists, take a deep breath, and walk out. I'm not sure where I'm going, but that class isn't worth my time. Why did I bother wasting my energy trying not to be late? I find myself in front of a door and open it to find that I'm on the roof. Damn. I really gotta pay attention to what I'm doing. The massive red sun is still working its way up into the sky, making the red and blue create a fiery sunrise that could burn this world to the ground. I sit on the edge of the roof and look in awe. It's magnificent. I run my hand along the bandages on my chest and sigh. Wonder if this will be my last sunrise. I can't keep up with training if it's going to be like that every day. She probably thinks I'm a waste of time now. I can't hold back if I want to defeat them all, but I have to hold back or I'll overexert my powers. Maybe I will just be a liability. I have to keep trying though. I have to get better. Plus, if anyone is going to be able to bring out the most of my powers, it's her. What the hell did she do earlier to torch them? I can't even roast people to ashes, just burn them to death. They were completely ash though and there were hundreds. I'm thinking the possibility of her being weaker than people think was wrong. Definitely wrong. So what was that? I want to do that. Sounds like a little kid whining to his mom, but I do want to learn that if I'm capable. That was fuckin badass, who wouldn't want to be able to vanquish their enemies by turning them to dust. Who would pass up the opportunity to say "Another one bites the dust" after torching someone? The perfect one liner and I can't even use it because I'm incapable. The bell rings and I grumble before getting up then head to class. This will be a fun day.
