[WARNING: THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS GORE]
ROBBIE'S POV
The contract has finally been sealed and any moment now, Amber will be resurrected. I stood still waiting for the demon to do his part.
But instead, he continued speaking with his raspy voice- he said
"And in return, you shall offer me a soul" hearing this my blood run cold, what is he talking about?
"What?! But I already gave" out of nowhere, blood started coming out of my mouth. My chest feels like it is being crushed from the inside and I could hardly breathe.
It hurts! It hurts so much and it's just getting worst by each passing second.
"I'm not done talking mortal!" the demon said his voice raised giving a horrible warning.
And all of a sudden the pain went away,
"The souls you gave tonight is for the summoning and for her resurrection, the one you will give to me tomorrow is to keep her alive. Starting at today's daybreak her clock will run, if you want to keep her alive you shall give me another soul before dusk is over. Each and every day as long as Amber lives you are obligated to offer me a soul. If you fail to meet my terms, I will take Amber's soul to hell where she will suffer eternal punishment. Her soul will be damned and be feasted on by the creatures down below" the demon continued.
The room went silent which I took as an opportunity to speak again.
"This" feeling exhausted I took a deep breath.
"This is not fair I thought, I only need to kill people once but now you want me to every day?" I said in disbelief.
"I do not remember saying that you will only need to kill once, not even on the page" the demon replied.
I was unable to speak, I-I'm such a fool.
"It was you who assumed it, it was not I whom at fault" he continued
I could feel another lump forming in my throat, what am I to do now?
"Besides why feel this way, you already made it this far you might as well finish what you've started. Remember there are more things for you to do, at the end of the day Amber will always be with you. Isn't that what you've always wanted?"
I averted my eyes, it is true that I've always wanted to be with Amber. However to kill a person every day just steal a little time is too much, I will be the one to admit that killing this family had already damned me. I already have a place in hell reserved but do I need to keep burning away my conscience?
"Remember your end of the bargain, I will be expecting the next soul tomorrow. So long as they are killed by either you or Amber, one way or the other I will know, and that will immediately reset her time" the demon finally said.
I was about to protest when the demon burst, spattering blood in the entire living room.
Covered in blood, I could no longer take it anymore.
I collapse and puked right where I stand, the strong metallic scent, the feeling of deception, and the fact that I just ate a human heart. Send my stomach into a spiral that I ended up hurling everything inside it.
Holding my abdomen, I kept on hurling.
F*ck!
Sinking deeper in despair, tears started forming in my eyes.
I feel so conflicted that I can't think straight.
"Robbie" an all too familiar voice spoke, but I didn't bother to look her way.
She hugged me from behind "I'm so sorry it all came to this, I really am but we could never turn back time. All we can do now is to move forward, together" she said as she enveloped me with her warmth.
It was all the comfort I needed, all the reason called for- to go on.
I stood straight and turned in order to face her- the person I've been longing for, the person I love and the only one I will love.
She stood right in front of me, wearing a simple plain white dress and white flats. Her red hair is neatly framing her beautiful face, her amber eyes burn brightly- like the embers of the heart.
With tears in my eyes, I raised my blood-covered hands to reach out for her and caressed her warm rosy cheeks.
"You're back" I told her my heart pounding against my chest, due to the happiness I'm currently experiencing.
Placing her milky white hands over mine, she nodded enthusiastically.
"Yes, yes I'm and it was all thanks to you" she answered with glassy sparkling eyes.
Amber removed both of our hands from her cheeks.
As she held both of my hands, Amber tipped toed and locked her lips with mine.
It happened very quickly that I didn't have the time to process what just occurred.
I stared at her soft pink lips, still unable to believe this is now our reality.
"What?" Amber asked with a chuckle.
I shook my head "It's nothing" I said as a response, while Amber let go of my face.
She took a single step back while still holding a simple and sweet smile on her lips.
"You know" she said with a pause and hid her hands behind her.
"If you want another one, you will have to take the initiative" she continued before biting her lips.
Taken aback, I was uncertain how to react but in the end.
I took a step forward and embraced her tightly and kissed her on the top of her head.
"Welcome back Darling" I told her as I held her close.
For a good while, both of us enjoyed the comfort of each other's warmth until she let go of me.
"Robbie, we need to go before somebody ends up here" she simply stated.
Understanding her concern I quickly nodded and took her hand in mine, ready to leave the place.
Stepping over the splattered blood on the floor both of us made our way to the back door. Before we could exit the house, however, Amber tugged the hem of my shirt.
"Robbie, we can't leave the corpses like this" she said pointing at the dismembered bodies laying on the floor.
Looking around, it was obvious what is needed to be done.
I went back in to find the tinderbox, making way to the kitchen I hoped that I find it quickly. Because lighting a fire using a tinderbox could take time.
Blindly searching through the dark, I used my hand to feel the object around me. I've touched pots, jars, herbs tied in a bunch and so much more, but I can't seem to find the tinderbox.
Suddenly the middle of the room was on fire and almost immediately it spread through the beams and the roof.
I stood in the kitchen in shock, where did the fire come from?
Bright red light grows brighter as the fire spread even further, it's time to leave the place. However, as I turned to Amber my skin crawled she was staring into the fire her red eyes glowing dangerously. I don't want to believe it but deep inside, I know that she caused the fire.
The alarms in my head are blaring, trying to force me to run but I can't.
I love Amber and I will never abandon her, never again.
Taking her hand, I spoke to Amber "We should go" and with a single nod, we both left.
Walking halfway into the field, I looked back and so did Amber both of us watch as the fire consumed the house. In the corner of my eye I saw something I never expected to see, Amber is looking straight into the burning house with a smirk on her face- eyes glowing red.
"It will no longer be her" the witch warned me.
