Chapter 3 - STAYING WITH THE HUNTERS

RACHELLE'S POV

The Hunter's house is fairly simple it's only consisted of a single floor and standing in a small plot of land which is guarded by a wooden fence. The entire structure reminds me of a movie I once saw, about the people in England around the 16th century. Yes, it looked just like one of those, wooden cottages in the countryside along with the vast and rich land.

As we enter their home I can't help but take in my surroundings, it was in a sense quite look straightforward and typical. There was a fireplace in the far end of the corner of the room standing next to the kitchen which is filled with baskets of herds, dried ingredients, and pots. The center of the room has a table, topped with a basket of apples and by the color, they are either forged or from a local garden. And on the left side were two doors leading to what seems to be rooms.

Robbie pulled a chair for me and gestured for me to sit down, which I did so. He then pushed the basket of apples closer to me.

"Here, help yourself," he said and smiled

"Would you like some tea Rachelle?" he asked.

"No it's alright, I would like to talk about my situation if you don't mind," I told him and he smiled reassuringly.

"No not at all, proceed then I would be sure to listen"

I was glad to hear his answer but at the same time worried that he will throw me out and call me insane. I left a lump in the throat, my mouth feels dry and I'm unsure where to start. But it's now or never.

In the end, I was able to tell him everything: where I came from, the events that had happened, and the possibility that I'm cursed or maybe toyed with by a sorcerer. It felt like a thorn in my chest had been pulled out however, the dreadful feeling returned as I watch Robbie remained in dead silence.

I pursed my lips waiting for the worse to come. Of course, he won't believe me, no sane person would.

My heart feels so heavy that I wanted to cry, then I heard him sigh ever so deeply 'Oh no' I thought. As Robbie stood up from his seat, his expression remained blank yet his eyes are dark.

"I don't think I can help you, Rachelle" he said and my heart sank, he will definitely throw me out now.

"But I know someone who might be able to" he continued and my heart suddenly lifted with joy and surprise.

With shock and disbelief, I asked "You believe me?!"

"Yes, I don't see any reason not to"

"Well I know I won't even believe myself if I told me that story. So I can't help but wonder why?" I smiled sheepishly

He looked a bit surprised by the question but still answered "Well… let's just say certain events of my life led me to believe the impossible" he then smiled at me.

"Robbie… not to change the subject or anything but this person you told that can help. Where can I find them?" I asked

"Don't worry about that Rachelle I'll take you to his place tomorrow" he said

I nodded in response with hope building up in my chest and let him continue

"For now however, you might need a new set of clothes. Yours are not… well… quite suited in this particular era"

"I would love to change but I don't have anything with me" I answered

"Worry not, my mother has some clothes that might fit you" he said and gestured to one of the doors

"You can stay in my room, for the time being. I'll bring you the clothes as soon as I find them" he then smiled at me with a kind expression.

"Wait, you'll let me stay?" I asked a bit confused.

"Well of course, I can't let a lady sleep outside now can I?" he said. My… what a gentleman he turned out to be.

"Robbie… I can't Thank you enough" I said to express my gratitude.

We both smiled at each other then there was a moment of silence almost awkward yet calming, no that's not it compelling maybe? Whatever it is my heart feels light and satisfied, happy even.

"I… umm…should go and find you a new set of clothes" he said awkwardly.

"Oh! Yeah sure, Thank you again Robbie" I said as I blush like a mad woman

As he turned and left to find me some clothes, I almost feel disappointed.

It didn't take long for me to enter the room which as he said is 'his' when I entered I notice its simplicity. There was a bed in the far end of the room near the window beside it were a small table and a chair. The table was topped with an unlit lamp and a slightly crumpled letter but of course, I'm not nosy enough to read it despite of my curiosity kicking in.

I heard a knock on the door and with a short warning, Robbie entered the room, a set of clothes in hand.

"Here I really hope they fit you" he smiled a bit worried.

I smiled at him "Thank you, Robbie"

Then proceeded to take the cloths in his hands, he stops for a moment and smiled then turned to leave.

But before he could exit the room I tugged the hem of his shirt, which caused him to stop.

"Really I… don't know what could've happened if I didn't meet you, so… thank you so much" I said

He turned to me and answered "there's no need to worry, I'm glad to be of help"

He put a hand on my shoulder and smiled ever so kindly, which I'm more than happy to return.

After Robbie left the room, I noticed that the letter was gone. However, I just shrugged it off and started searching the pockets of my jeans, only to find my phone which wouldn't turn on, and my keys.

I took a deep sigh and sit in the bed. I started to think about home again, my work, my friends, and most importantly my mom. She must be really worried by now.

I oath to get home one way or another, deep in thought I lied down in the bed. Before I knew it, my eyelids became heavier and heavier by the passing minute, and eventually, let the sleepiness carried me to a deep slumber.
