6:15
Alarm.
Seriously, I was out last night. As my head hit the pillow I probably started to snore.
I was so tired. It was such a long day.
Buzz buzz buzz
6:20
Alarm.
Let's get dressed. Jump out off bed.
Breakfast's in thirty minutes. I got a lot of make-up to put on my face today to try to conceal those bags and darkness under my eyes.
I'm dressing simple today. Skinny black jeans, ripped over my knees and under my butt. Red tank top. Black wedge boots. Black satin duster jacket.
A black choker and my hair down straight.
Smokey eyes and red lipstick.
Grab my black tote bag. I didn't even took anything out yesterday. Well, I got no time.
Run downstairs and literally swallow the breakfast.
7:00
"Sorry mom. It was the make-up." I say while eating.
"Slow down. You have to eat properly. He'll wait 5 minutes. He won't die." My mom laughs.
"You're right." I smiled.
"Okay, so are you ready to go to school right away?" She asks.
"Yeah mom. I'm fine. You know... at least me and my friends are together in this... happening." I explain.
"That's right. You can talk to them, but if you need to, you can also talk to me. The woman that carried you in her womb. You know?"
"I know. Thank you. See you later." I kiss her and run outside.
I see the Land Rover parking.
"On time. Impressive." He says when I slide inside the vehicle.
"I know, right?" I joke.
"Did you sleep well?"
"Yeah. Like a rock." I answer.
"Me too. You look great today, that sleep did you wonders."
If only he knew...
"Thanks. I see you are yet again in a t-shirt."
"Well, it's warm enough."
"Humm humm." I look outside deep in thoughts.
"What are you thinking about?"
"How do you think a wild animal got inside the Diner and murdered those women?" I asked him.
"I have no idea, Ziig. All I can tell you is that it smelled weird. Like a stray dog, but worse." He solemnly tells me.
"A stray dog... odd." I rumble.
"I've missed you. I lost part of me when I went to Canada." He says with sadness in his voice.
"What? Come on... I bet you lured half of those girls to your bed, wolfie."
He laughed "Well, not half. Three quarters at least..."
"Ugh. Disgusting... " I made a face.
"What? I'm kidding. I'm an one mate for life kind of guy." He confessed.
I chuckle "Yeah. Yeah."
"Whatever..." He says rolling his eyes.
I returned to my thoughts and started to notice my heart rate increased. I tried to breath deeply to calm myself.
"What's wrong?" He says stopping the car.
"Nothing. I don't know." I said.
"Z, I can hear your heart racing and your lungs are not responding as they should." He says exiting the vehicle.
"What?" I simply reply.
He opens my door, take my safety belt off and picks me up, taking me in his lap.
The fresh air hits me.
He was holding me almost like a baby.
"Calm down. You are just having a panic attack. Calm down. Just listen to my voice."
I nod and try to do as he says.
"You are fine. This is nothing. You are safe."
"I am?" I ask.
"Yes. I'll rather die before someone hurt you. Including that Cole prick that cheats on you in a stupid party."
"Calm down, Ogi. You're temperature is increasing. Wait. What?"
We are literally in the middle of nowhere.
I got up and start pacing.
"What did you just said?" I asked.
He just stood there. With a concerned look on his face.
I started to list every odd situation I have witnessed in the last day and an half.
"You are always warm and when stressed or mad, burning. One.
You listened to my conversation with Cole Cook, from the other side of the cafeteria. I remember seeing you, sitting on the basketball team table. Just don't freaking deny it. Two.
You have the ability to capture scents from far away. Three.
You listened to my heart beat and flux of air in my lungs. Four.
You're eyes turn red when you feel threatened or protective of me. Five. You developed an protective instinct over me, that is flat out abnormal. Six. and You never lost your cool after seeing two dead bodies that were probably covered in blood. That's seven.".
I stop and stare at him.
"What are you?" I asked serious as death.
He didn't answer.
"When it happened I was almost twelve." He starts talking.
"I looked at you and I left something different from before. It was not painful at first. Like a little pounding in the back of my skull. Annoying me, but not as painful as it got with the passing of time." He continues.
I was looking at him, like he was telling me I have two heads .
"When that 6th grade ended it was horrible being around you without touching you. The physical pain was... astonishing. I made the mistake to tell my father. We moved the next day." He finishes talking.
"What are you talking about?"
I chuckle " Why would you need to touch me?"
He stiffened "You are my mate. In order to function... We need to become one."
"Mate? Become one?" I laughed "What happened in Canada? Did they brainwashed you?"
"Ziigwan, don't mock our ways."
"Our ways?"
"How many times did you kiss my cheek in the last day and an half? Or touched my arm or my shoulder or my back?" He asks.
"What?" I'm adrift.
"How many times you touched another person in the last day and an half?"
"I think I hugged Molly...and I probably kissed my mom..." I tried to remember.
"How much you want to be in my arms right now?" He defies me.
"Don't be like that... come on." I snap at him.
"Just be truthful." He says.
I shrugged my shoulders and stayed silent.
He's right. I've been trying to throw him to any girl that is not me. Hoping I would feel different about him.
"Fine. Maybe I find you attractive. But you are literally a God figure. How am I suppose to ignore all that? It's ridiculous." I puffed.
"Well, thank you." He gives on of his winning smiles.
"Please... That doesn't mean that we're... mates!? What are we? Animals that mate for life?" I ask rolling my eyes.
"Yes."
I chuckle "How am I suppose to believe that?"
"We got to go. Otherwise we'll be late." He says returning to the car.
I followed.
"It's 7:45. Shit." I sigh.
"We'll make it. Hold on to something." He says and he speeds a little.
"That is why you call me your queen, sometimes? Star. Dancing star..." I asked.
"You are my queen and my little flower, my star, my light, my hope, my dreams. You have no idea what was like for me not be able to see you for five years.
At least not seeing eased the physical pain..."
"This is totally twilight zone stuff. I just can't... I don't know... It's just too unbelievable... I mean, come on. You were twelve. What did you know?" I rumble.
"My body knew. My little wolf knew."
"Oh My Gosh. Seriously? Are you going to tell me that the Great Spirits chose you to carry on with the Wolf and pass it to your children? Are you changing to wolf next weeks Thursday night, because you know .. full moon and all..." I mocked.
"You'll see." He says dryly.
"Okay. I'll be waiting then."
We made it. Don't know how but we passed the gates at 8:02.
Barely making on time, but we made it.
No one would blame us. Not really. Everyone knew what happened yesterday. Molly and Tiffany were missing school today.
That meant that Mr. My-Mate, sat with me in all the classes today. And at lunch.
Katie, Britney and I sat with the boys today. Considering yesterday events... I guess we needed someone that was there.
Logan was paler than usual.
"Are you okay Logan?" I asked.
"Yeah. I'm dealing. And King? What do you think?" He asks almost whispering.
"He's fine. He's really strong, you know, being raised as he was. And I was a little too. He's really strong. I hope you overcome this quickly, Logan. I've always though you're a good person. You'll push through." I smiled briefly, hoping I was encouraging.
"Yes. I know I will. Thanks for saying that anyway." He replied.
"Ogi," I unconsciously put my hand on his arm "can we talk after school?" I ask him, whispering almost inaudible.
He nodded.
"I'm sorry. I don't mean to be rude, I swear, but why do you call King, Ogi? Yesterday... you know... in the Diner you called him that and I was just wondering..." said Katie. She is so funny.
"Ogimaa means Chief, leader or King in Ojibwe. His name is Ogimaa Binesi. That translated to King Thunderbird." I explain her.
"Oh. That's something. Wow. That's so cool." Katie was smiling like a dork.
"Unfortunately I am not as good as I used to be. But when I was a kid I talked Ojibwe pretty fluently. He was always better than me, though." I chuckled.
"Well, it's mandatory for me. You learned because it happened." Ogi stated.
I rolled my eyes. Punching his shoulder.
Shit. Two touches in 2 minutes.
He's right... great. My heart starts to race.
"Ogimaakwe, are you okay?" He asks me.
"It's..." I say.
"I'll take you outside." He says, pulling me up.
"Calm down. I think you are finally turning. I must have ignited your process with my arrival." He says, as we leave the cafeteria.
"What? Turning what?" I ask.
"Wolf." He dryly reply.
