The basketball court was filled with people by the time we got there around six. We had bought our tickets a week before and an hour after release, it sold out.
I was dressed in a blue top tucked into a black A line skirt with buttons that stopped just right above the knees with a old skool checkered vans. I also had Christian's vasity jacket on. It has a big 'C' on the left side of the jacket. Trish is dressed in dark gray camo cargo pants, black top and black sneakers. Her hair packed in a ponytail.
We got drinks and snacks and our seats were in the middle row bleachers. Christian called me last night and asked where I will be sitting today.
Wonder why.
"C'mon let's get seated. The game is about to start." Trish says pulling my arm.
"Trish?"
"Hm?"
"Why did you get us middle row seats?" I ask as we sit.
"Well you know. To watch the players better."
"You mean to watch Caleb better?" I ask with a smile and she shrugs playfully
"They are coming in now!!!!!" Trish shouts. They were all dressed in white and red Jerseys with the words "BULLDOGS" written on their shirts. I catch the sight of Caleb next to Christian, and his eyes are already scanning the crowd for Trisha. Christian's eyes are scanning the crowd too, but his brows are pulled together until his grey eyes catch me smiling at him.
The crowd around us is exploding as the team approaches, and I tighten my hold on Trish as the crowd volume rises to a near deafening roar when Coach raises his hand to acknowledge the crowd.
The players all keep their eyes forward with stoic looks on their faces, like they are too focused to let the chaos around them distract them. But just as he was about to pass by, his head turns towards me and points towards his jacket I'm wearing as if asking if it's his and I nod. The girls around me throw their hands in the air and call his name, but his eyes stay locked on mine before he winks and looks back towards the front.
The opposite team also make their entrance dressed in black jerseys and the words "BLAZERS" written across their shirts. Our school boos them but that doesn't stop their fans from cheering them on.
The teams were arranged 5 on each side and the captains of the two teams were called out. The refree throws the ball up and Paul jumped and hit the ball first, signalling the start of the game.
.....
It remains 27 seconds for the game to finish, and the two teams were on 79-80, with the blazers beating us by a point. The game has been tense from the beginning.
Christian passes the ball to Caleb who passes it to Paul, who passes it to Tom, who then passes it back to Christian and he throws to the basket from the 2 point arc. It was as if everything was in slow mo. The ball landed on hoop of the net, rounded the net and went through it as the time hit 0.
The whole crowd went uproar as the whole court went in chaos. I didn't know when I started shouting at the top of my voice and I hugged Trish. The team was also jubilating as we won the first game of the season.
After some minutes of shouting, Christian takes a microphone from God knows where and as he taps on it, the noise starts to reduce.
"So," He starts. "Was this the best first game of the season or what?" The crowd goes uproar again until Christian signals the crowd to calm down.
"So, as we the bulldogs won this game, I, Christian Lockwood, also want to win a special someone's heart here tonight." He says and looks at me. "Ashley Colton, will you please do the favour of standing up?"
Oh. My. God!
"This is so embarrassing." I say and Trish giggles beside me.
"I know." She says laughing.
All eyes were on me as I stood up.
"Ashley, there's something I always to say to you, since many, many, days. I tried to give you hints, in many different ways. Just looking at you, takes my breath away. I like you is what I really want to say. Just one more thing remains to lay. Will you be my girlfriend?"
The whole crowd all went ooohhhsss and ahhhhsssss. Christian still looking at me hopefully and when I said the one word he wanted to hear, he smiled happily and the whole crowd cheered.
"Yes."
