Chapter 64 - Chapter 63 Ended up dead

"Have they found the information I wanted?" Salvatore asked

"They have found the previous landowner, but they're dead," Jane said

Salvatore huffed,

"I will have Marcello and Luke into it, did they have any immediate family close to them?"

"Yes they did, but they don't seem to be on speaking terms,"

Salvatore hummed, feeling the same, he looked around the room before asking Jane, "I've been,"

Salvador felt his heart jump into his throat… She looks up from some papers to look at him,

He felt his heart melt with worry. She looks exhausted, working the past night with him and insisting that he should rest.

"I've just been thinking that if you wanted to," Salvatore said

He sat up from his chair and stepped toward her, he took hold of her hand.

"If you wanted to take a stroll through the city it is beautiful this time of year," Salvatore said

Jane at first was baffled by him, why would he like her? She felt her face heat up noticing how close he is to her. "Why be afraid of it?"

Jane tensed.

"Love… why be afraid of it?"

Jane pulls up his hand and lays a kiss on the back of it, Salvatore, struck dumb by her act, blushed red.

"I would love to," Jane said

Salvatore felt his heartbeat slow down, and he pulled her into a hug, Salvatore laid his chin on top of her head, Jane's head on his chest hearing his heart.

"Why did you ask?" Jane questioned

Salvatore glanced at her,

"Why wouldn't I? A gorgeous, brilliant, independent woman," Salvatore said

Salvatore pulled away from her and said. "A woman I've grown to an admirer,"

Salvatore leans toward her. Jane gives a slight chuckle and grabs his jacket, pulling him into a kiss, he puts his hand on the back of her neck.

He kissed her softly, enjoying the kiss until... A knock on his door interrupts him, Jane lets go of his jacket and steps away from him,

"I'll go get the door, and you should get my,"

Jane is interrupted by another knock, she walks to the door and opened the door,

"I'm sorry if I'm interrupting something, but we have more information from the landowner's family members," Liz said

Salvatore walks back to his chair to sit back down.

"We?" Jane asked

Jane moves aside letting Liz and Jacob in, Jacob pulls a chair out for Liz who sits in it thanking him as she does,

"After Avalon and I went back to the base, she helped me with some work I've been doing," Liz said

"Until we heard from the research team what you wanted to be done," Liz said

She stopped by Jacob leaning on her chair, she tapped his elbow telling him to stop.

"And?" Salvatore insisted

"And both of us started to look into it, we both did our research and compiled it together to find where his still-alive family is," Liz explained

Liz looked at Jacob,

"I handled the rest and to get to the point here," Jacob said

He pulled out his phone and gave it to him. Salvatore found a recording on the screen and pressed it,

"Has he told you anything about it? You keep saying the mouth gets him into trouble," Jacobs's voice came over the speaker.

A quiet feminine voice speaks through the phone, "All we knew about him was he needed to buy land quickly, so he went to an old friend of his and asked if he could get him a good offer,"

She gives him a giggle,

"Then he bragged about getting land with a weird energy," She laughed

"Weird energy?" Jacob asked

She kept giggling at him, Liz looked at him and asked, "Is she drunk?"

"No, she wasn't. The truth drug you gave me I used that on her, after I gave her that she wanted to talk," Jacob said

"You didn't threaten her, right?" Salvatore asked

"No, I didn't I just told her I was from an organization that would like to ask some questions," Jacob said

Salvatore nods and motions him to continue the recording.

"Can you tell me more about this weird energy?" Jacob asked

"Yes I can, he used to keep talking about this well in the ground funneling energy around that little town he moved in," She said

"Then you know where that building is," Jacob said

Salvatore felt a hand on his shoulder, a comforting warmth moved over him, and he looked at Jane, a smile lying on her face,

"Yes he did, it should be north of the property in the middle of the forest the number is 19, 2023,26," She told him.

Jacob turned off the recording and put the phone away,

"We have it, "Jane says

Liz nods and says, "Now what do we do with it,"

Salvatore looked at them,

"Set the plan in motion," Salvatore said

"Blake sir?"

Blake looked out the window, watching the rain fall from the sky. He heard one of his member's voices and decided to turn to them.

"What is it?" Blake asked

the woman flinched at the tone of his voice, She watched him walk around his desk to her, and she froze,

"Did you come in here for something, or are you here to waste my time?" Blake said

"Y…y.yes I did the mayor's eye got infected, and she seems to not be feeling well," She said

Blake scoffed,

"Is that all? Send her to the medics, they can handle it." Blake said

She flinched,

"N…no sir there is more, they have found the landlord's granddaughter," She said

Blake beams at her.

"Really?"

"Yes they did, but she has been talking to one of the former members," She told him,

Blake darkened at this and walked back to his desk,

"And did she sing?" Blake asked

Blake sat down, placing his feet on the desk, he stared at her waiting for her response,

"She did sir, " She said

"Did they catch her?" Blake asked

She felt her gut sink, remembering the woman begging them to let her go before dragging her into a room... beating her.

"Yes they did there... beating her as we speak," She said

Blake hummed at her,

"They know,"

She looked at him and asked, "What do you mean, sir?"

He smiles at her and tries to direct her attention somewhere else,

"Nothing really important, dear," Blake said

She blushed at this,

"Sir, I don't think that's…" She got cut off

"I understand, and for that I'm sorry… What's your name?" Blake asked

She flushed at his kindness, maybe he's not as bad as they say.

"I'm Martha," Martha said

Blake got up and walked to her, he gently held her hand.

"Nice to meet you, Martha," Blake said

He kissed her hand.

"Blake, you're needed in the..."

His right hand stopped finding them in a compromising scene, Martha pulled her hand away from him and said bashfully,

"It's nothing Maxine just don't p…pay attention to me,"

Martha quickly walks out of the room, leaving Maxine confused and Blake relieved.

"And here I thought you were still hooked on Avalon," Maxine said

Blake scoffed at her remark.

"Just some more coverage is all Maxine," Blake said

Maxine rolled her eyes at him, she walked to him, pointed her finger at his chest, and said,

"Do you need this mush shield to cover you? You're the Don what could happen to you will be already stopped, "

"And I thought I was stupid and young," Blake said

Blake pushed her hand away,

"You can never have enough meat shields in this business, and being the head it's needed," Blake said

Maxine stepped back understanding the circumstance that therein, she flushed and thought of herself as a fool. Blake chuckled, finding her predicament amusing,

"Fine then," Maxine said

Blake smiled,

"You're not going to last long. If you're going to act like that," Blake sighed

Blake walks to his desk and asks her, "What is it that you came in here for?"

"There's been a breach in the front gate," Maxine said
