Michael's POV
"What's this place? I've never been here before.", I say as I get out of Jakob's police car. He shuts his door and pulls out his keys. There's a chirrup as he locks the doors. "I used to go here when I was a kid. They have the best ice cream in the world." I look up at the big, dark blue sign written in fancy letters: Handel's Homemade Ice Cream & Yogurt Since 1945. It has a red cherry as the apostrophe. "And," Jakob says as we walk up to the double doors, "They have over 50 flavors." I open one of the heavy doors and say, "Well, It won't take me long to pick one. I like cotton candy." People stare at Jakob, wondering why is there a cop in an ice cream store when he should be at work. "Hey, here's five dollars. I'll be in CVS over there, ok?" I take the money and say, "Ok, I'll come over there when I'm done. Thank you for the ice cream." I hug him quickly and get in line, super pumped. I watch Jakob as he walks out the doors, holding the door for a woman, and walking across the parking lot. I put my hands behind my back as I look up at the board listed with all the flavors. "Hmmm. I might get something else . . .", I mutter to myself. There's a homeless person in front of me and he walks up to the counter. "H-hello. I'd like to buy-", he tried to say but the lady cashier put a hand and said, "Look, I know your hungry and all but, you stink like crap, and you're making my customers walk out! So, I'll have to ask you to leave, sir." The man just smiled and said, "Oh, ok. I get it. I'll go. Have a good day." He walked past me and whispered, "People are so rude these days, young lad." He sighed, pushed the door open, and walked outside. I thought hard about my next decision and walked up to the cashier. "Um, hi. May I have one scoop of cotton candy ice cream?" The cashier smiled at me and said, "Of course you can, sweetie! Cone or cup?" I said, "Cone, please." and looked back at the homeless man, who is sitting on a bench. "Here you are.", she said, handing me the cone. "That will be . . . 2.50. Cash or card?" I pulled out the five-dollar bill and handed it to her. She put it in the cash drawer and counted out a few bills and coins. "Here you go. Have a good day, honey!" I slipped the money into my pocket and waved goodbye. I walked out the door and walked up to the homeless man. "Uhhh, hello. I brought you some ice cream since you couldn't get it yourself.", I said, kinda shy. He turns around and smiles. "Oh, thank you, lad. You're so kind. You have a good heart, you do." He took the cone from me and asked, "Oh, can you get me some napkins, please?" I nodded and ran back inside.
