"Hello Michael, this is Denatonium"
...
"What have you done with Damion?"
"Nothing, he's fine"
"Yeah right, and Jackson is alive, sure I'll believe you"
"It's true"
Getting annoyed I turn around and see Tayor, Chris and Damion watching wearily. I wave over Damion holding my hand over the phone to muffle what we say.
"Go ahead and scare him, his voice annoys me"
Damion immediately grins before snatching the phone away from me, walking further away to have a private conversation. The only sign of his humour is the 'shit eating' grin on his face. Out of nowhere however his smirk immediately disappears and he stares at me, a confused expression on his face. I stare back, trying to figure out what the problem is. After a while he hangs up and walks back over.
"You want to know who the Kamprillos' are?"
I roll my eyes, cross my arms over my chest and pop my right hip.
"They're your parents"
He only nods before crossing his own arms.
"Yeah, I guess. Michael said something didn't he?"
I nod, turning around and leading the way back to Tayor and Chris. Our conversation felt awkward and I was ready to get this job done. As we walk back into the building, Damion starts whispering to Tayor, and while I know that they are trying to have a private conversation, my curiosity gets the better of me.
"Who is Denatonium?"
Tayor looks at Damion in confusion, her eyebrows pinched together, her mouth set in a worried line.
"The best assassin in the world"
Tayor looks at Damion in shock, her head then turns in my direction, quickly I turn back around, hold my head high and continue to stalk my way up the stairs towards the back entrance. I can feel her eyes on my back, like lasers, my skin prickles from the sensation.
"But the best is Sam"
"Yeah, I know."
When I feel her gaze move away from my back I turn my head back around and lock eyes with Damion. For a moment all I can do is stare into his weirdly purple eyes. I quickly snap out of it when I almost walk right into Chris who had stopped in the middle of the hallway. almost instantly I glance back at Damion, my face starting to turn red against my wishes, something that hadn't happen in a long time. My control usually impeccable. It is only when my name is yelled out from down the hall that I realise that my glance had turned into a stare.
"Sam! OMG Sam! I really need your help."
A girl with black hair similar to mine, rushes down the hall towards us, weaving in and out of startled students who are trying to get to their first class.
"Wait a minute, Sam?"
A hush whisper from behind informs me of Tayor's very recent revelation. A smirk graces my lips, almost uncontrollable but as soon as the other girl reaches us however, it drops and I just stare at her without emotion. She visibly gulps but continues as she stands in front of me.
"Hey, Sam ... and other people I don't know?"
She made it sound as a question, though I had the urge to answer I kept the feeling at bay, keeping my poker face. With a quick look at Chris, Tayor and Damion she turns back to me.
"So Sam, you are like, incredibly smart right? So you would be at the top of the Calculus class, right? Yeah so you would have the notes for yesterday's class, right? And you would have done the questions, right?"
I roll my eyes at her continuous stream, not even bothering to answer her I wait for her to get her breath back. Just as quickly as I decide she takes a deep breath and continues.
"You know how Sir hands out gruelling punishments if we hadn't done the homework? You know how I have problems completing homework on time. Not to mention you know how I am literally am just hanging on a thread in my place at the school."
I step closer to her, when she notices she closes her mouth with an audible sound. Her eyes shifting from me to the others behind me, then to the last trickle of students wandering the halls, on their way to their first class, which the girl should notably be going to.
"Spit it out Natalia, what do you want?"
She looks down at the ground before looking back up.
"I...um...do you have the answers to last night's homework?"
Again I roll my eyes. I swear one day they will get stuck there with the amount of eye rolling I have done in the past day and a half.
"No"
Natalia splutters, her mouth dropping open in shock.
"N...No? W...what?"
I smirk, feeling much happier now that I was on top of the situation.
"Yesterday you asked the same question but for a different class. If you are not going to do your work then you shouldn't have your position. No offence but, Your grades are mediocre at best, you constantly use others so that you will not get in trouble, your skills in defence borderline on a danger to yourself. By not doing it yourself you are struggling to be anything here, you are never going to get the big jobs because nobody will be able to trust you to do what is necessary. You are not cut out for this life and if you can't see that then there is something very wrong with you."
Her head hangs lower, her face on fire.
"Oh and Natalia, I didn't do the homework, I am no longer apart of the school. Go find someone else who will be sympathetic to your lost cause."
With that I push past her and continue stalking down the hall.
