Chapter 6 - Hunting the winner of the dragon battle pt.1

The boys celebrated their reunion deep into the night, roasting some dragon flesh they had managed to snag on their way ou of the battle and drinking some wine Jeffery had brought with him for Zeke's first kill of the trip. The twins passed out back to back, Daemon had enjoyed a bit too much of the wine and vomited and Jeffery thought this a better option for some reason. Zeke however remained awake and alert just in case, there was a great dragon who had just accumulated more territory and it may decide to start hunting the new areas. Luckily he didn't see even a basic dragon all night, most of the under dragons in this area must have been wiped out in the dragon battle.

The twins woke up with some slight head aches, and slight skepticism that what had happened last night wasn't a drunken dream.

The twins looked around their camp but didn't see Zeke, had they imagined the golden Foxxen? Was it really their cousins ghost? The checked around the campsite, making sure not to go too deep in case they get ambushed, nothing, no sign of the golden foxxen who claimed to be Zeke. The twins met back at their camp to try and decide what they do next. They packed up their camp and decided to continue the hunt and started their trek towards the mountains. A couple hours of traversing through the forest they exited without incident. It was like all the dragons were gone, they didn't even see any basic dragons in the brush foraging or growling above them in the trees. " Hey Jeff, is it kinda quiet, do you feel like somethings off?" Damon had started feeling like this journey was too easy. Even if there wasn't any dangerous dragons there still should have been dragons. " yea D, i noticed it too, it's like there are no more dragons in this area or something." They entered a meadow that seemed to go on for miles, small purple flowers decorated the countryside alongside lush green grass. It was a paradise at first glance, but on S'ram even the flowers were home to dragons, they weren't all titans in size, some were massive in numbers and could reduce a party of warriors to bones in seconds. " piranha dragons could explain why there's no dragons in this vicinity, but I have a feeling there's something worse keeping all the other dragons away from this area. " Jeffery had gotten nervous, there was no real way to fight the small swarming style dragons. They could eat through steel in a matter of seconds and often spit acid instead of fire making most protections useless.

Damons ears perked, he had heard a sound coming from the woods behind him. At first he thought he imagined it, but then he realized it was something big barreling behind them, knocking down trees along the way. " Steel coats ass what now!" Damon rumbled, their first day out they were met by feuding great dragons that nearly killed them, then they lost their cousin who was then killed and probably somehow used by a grand dragon or something to torment them. As the boys decided to take their chances with the flowers a large gold figure leaped over their heads and landed in front of them, smiling wide and holding the bodies of a couple sentient dragon corpses.

" there you guys are! I thought id get up early and grab us some food before we took off, when I came back you had disappeared!" Zeke said panting as he dropped the two lifeless dragons at their feet. " Zeke! It wasn't a dream? Steelcoats ass you've managed to bring back a couple sentient dragons as well!" Damon and Jeff relaxed a bit, relieved Zeke was alive and even more relieved that was what had scared all the dragons most likely. They broke down the dragon carcasses and cut the meat into strips and hung them on their packs to dry into jerky. The gem souls were given to Damon and Jeffery, Zeke wanted to make up for abandoning them the day before but also felt like they needed the benefits more than himself, besides he had killed more dragons than he had brought back with him and had quite a feast, he even managed to find another nest and eat a great dragon soul gem. He gained the ability to produce a small amount of electric current that would do little more than create little sparks across his body that would pop and crackle.

" hey Zeke can you tell if there are any dragons in this area?" Jeff knew zekes senses were way evolved beyond their own, " I cant smell anything but the flowers, they're really strong and are kind of overwhelming my nose" the flowers were relatively fragrant, Zekes nose was unfathomably stronger than theirs, so the faint smell they were getting a slight whiff of was intensified and acted like a shield to scents of everything else. " I'm afraid we are going to have just suck it up, i'm pretty certain the great dragons keep is in the mountain passed this meadow." Zeke had been able to use his nose memory to see the dragon and his army head this way and they deduced the mountains had to be where it was going.

Zeke went first figuring he probably could fight whatever may be hiding and live, especially if there were insect sized swarming dragons his fur was pretty solid giving him really good defense.

He stepped further into the meadow, carefully making sure there was nothing under his feet or rustling in the flowers. After fifty or so yards he signaled his cousins to follow. They made their way across the meadow that seemed to literally go on forever. They walked for hours, not speaking, keeping their ears open and their eyes focused on the meadow ahead. " where are all the damn dragons!" Zeke said snarling, he didn't expect the path to the great dragons dwelling would be so easily traversed. " we said the same thing, we assumed that you scared them all off" Damon replied back, " you almost seem disappointed!" Damon accused, he was right, Zeke secretly wanted to see how strong he really was. The sentient dragons he killed were rather weak even for sentient dragons, and didn't require him to push himself. He was beginning to feel over powered and bored. They traveled further across the meadow, eventually the purple flowers disappeared and in the distance they began to see the shadow of the mountains they were looking for. The daylight had begun to fade and the three young Foxxen began to look for a place to set up camp for the night.
