Chapter 8 - Forced Inheritance

A day after the ordeal, Niko began to test out his gains. First starting with his Atmos Bubble Wand.

It was no different from a toy, with an elongated plastic container tinted with a shade of dark blue, the wand itself had an interesting design.

Lines curving downwards from the guard like roiling waves, with light blue clusters of bubbles all over its body.

The end had a small hole to tie a string through for easy attachment. Twisting the wand, Niko dipped it in twice to make sure the wide cavity was filled with the soap mixture.

Swirling rainbow-like patterns splashed across translucent film, clear yet murky at the same time.

Guiding his hand downwards, a massive spherical bubble popped off softly from the wand, the iridescent bubble shook slightly, floating towards his head.

Niko took advantage of this and directly pushed his head inside of it, the bubble let him in with little to no resistance.

"Huah!" Gasping for air, Niko discovered a sweet fragrance pervading both his mouth and nostrils.

Mild as a flower, yet smelt sweeter than vanilla. It felt completely different from the polluted air in the city, and completely blocked away any dust particles.

It was an absolutely mesmerising experience, "I'm keeping this on." He told the System, grateful for their gifts.

[Okay? Well, as you requested one rat and a small rock at your desk]. The System replied as two small balls of light dropped down on his messy table.

The rat scuttled around curiously, scratching itself in confusion. He was the test subject for Niko's Eye Of Somnolence.

As for the rock, it was for his High Enchant spell. Technically he could have used anything to enchant, but he didn't want to destroy his own property so he had the System bring him a rock as he was too lazy too.

With the bouncing bubble over his head, he cleared away the desk and held the rat in his hands, caressing it gently.

"What a cute little guy. You're so adorable~." Niko played with the rat, giving it lots of love by tickling it and letting him run around the desk.

Then once more in his hands, Niko had it stare deeply into his eyes. In the rat's viewpoint, it saw Niko's right eye change colours.

A small slit appeared as his pupils contracted, his dull brown irises fading into an emerald green, to yellow, to a neon hot violet before eventually settling with a dazzling vivid blue.

The rat opened its mouth wide, seemingly yawning, it staggered as Niko let it free from his grip. It's movement erratic as if it had been inebriated.

Spinning slowly it stopped, before eventually dozing off with its rear end facing upwards. It was an adorable scene that made Niko chuckle.

"What a funny little guy. Let's keep him as a pet, shall we System?" Niko adored the small rat, having thoughts of keeping it as a pet for entertainment and other purposes.

The System instantly responded, [I agree]. It felt quite attached by now seeing the cute antics and silly expressions it held.

Niko grinned, waving his hand to teleport the rat into some safe place, which the System would handle accordingly, but for now it was time for him to test out the effects of High Enchant.

He had pondered over on what enchantments to place that he had completely forgotten that he had learnt no enchantments in the first place.

Only then did he ask the System for advice, which was surprisingly useful.

The summarised version was; [Magic is merely a tool used by humans to accomplish what Gods could do. They imitate Gods in an attempt to feel closer to them. They bend reality to fit their needs and wants, all their desires and wishes becoming truth. Spells were only passed down due to the lack of creativity religious mages had, relying solely on the feats their Gods showed them and emulating those miracles. But there are a certain kinds of mages that creates spells through talent, knowledge and strong emotions. They are called Wizards].

Basically Magic was meant to break the rules in the first place and no one should follow the conventional methods and except for Ritual Magic that follow a certain pattern, most Magics' were to be freely expressed and used only limited by their imagination and amount of magical power.

That was why deities loved to posses humans, as they carried immense imagination, children were especially powerful in this aspect.

With the power of a God and the imagination of a Human, the fuses being were basically unstoppable, which was why it was considered to be a Forbidden Technique.

The System spoke of the so-called Forbidden Technique with envy, although they were always apathetic and robotic sounding Niko still detected jealousy in its words, as if it yearned to hold a similar power.

Although he found it strange, he still focused on the task at hand. "What Enchantment should I place?" Was the question hat reverberated in his mind.

Gazing around his room for inspiration, his eyes caught the word 'big' on one of the open books in his desks.

He had a sudden brainstorm. 'Why don't I enchant a size altering enchantment on it?'

Feeling giddy, he lightly placed one finger on the stone, its smooth exterior pleasing to touch.

He closed his eyes and imagined it growing. Green light shrouded the stone, stemming from the finger he had placed.

Opening his eyes Niko reeled back in shock as he witnessed the rock double in size, about the size of a basketball.

His excitement peaked once he realised that as long as he imagined and knew how the effect worked he could place different enchantments on anything.

Of course there were specific things that required advanced knowledge for him to start enchanting the effects such as learning the power of Time to stop time or the power of Space to teleport and so on.

But other than abstract concepts, anything else was possible. Holding on to that thought, he wondered something, 'Can I make something similar to the bubble wand?'

It was of course a unique item given by the System. And if everything that the System said was true, then could he himself create unique items too?

[That is correct]. Reading his thoughts, the System answered his current questions, but bought even more. [Unique Items are known as Artifacts. The only beings capable of such things are Artificers]. Hearing this familiar term, Niko's eyes furrowed in incredulity.

That meant that he was already qualified to begin with. What kind of luck was this?! He wanted to complain, but couldn't since he knew that it was actually a good thing.

Suppressing his amazement, he asked the System on more information about it. But lazy as it was, all it did was directly confirm the option of receiving the Grand Artificers' Inheritance without his permission.

His eyes widened in shock as he discovered the immense amount of information surging through his brain. Niko cursed the System in his heart and swore to make its life miserable once he finished assimilating all the knowledge.

"Damn you!"

....

In a verdant landscape, a small rat with a brown fur coat ran around, feasting on the grass before it.

The dewy meadow rustled as he sprinted across it, happily trying to find its way home.

But it stopped unexpectedly, eventually encountering a lake full of crystal blue water, rippling in the wind as the light reflected on its pure blue waters.

It had encountered Moonlit Pool in all its splendour. Becoming the first to bathe in the glorious magical lake.
