"Hey, excuse me, can you please stop pulling me?"
Lilith can't help but yank her hands away from Shaun. It's a good evening for her, studying peacefully in her room when this young man suddenly showed up.
Shaun, on the other hand, giggled. He's not pulling Lilith that hard. He's just securing her. Since the girl was always in her room reading books, he decided to take her out. Lilith's parents always favor him though.
Just by thinking about this idea, the girl frowned.
"I'm holding you because you might get lost," Shaun said. He smiled brightly, as if he's very carefree.
Lilith smacked his back lightly. "It's your fault for taking me out. I want to go home." She snorted.
The young man ignored her and stopped by the food stall, still holding her hand. He ordered two waffles and drinks, then he dragged Lilith towards the empty bench.
Shaun unwrapped the upper part of the waffle and handed it to Lilith. "Here, have a taste.."
The girl took it and said thanks. She felt nostalgic because Shaun liked waffles very much. Even if they were kids, he's crying whenever his mom would not buy him some. Speaking of Shaun's mom, she hadn't seen her for a while now.
The last thing she knew about her was when Shaun's dad was divorcing her. Lilith unconsciously glanced at her friend, who's busy eating. 'He's always smiling. I wonder if he's okay,' she thought.
"Hey!" Lilith tilted her head. "Why did you drag me here with you?" she asked, bluntly using a quite harsh voice. "How dare you use my mom's favoritism on you to get me into this?"
Shaun paused from eating that the sauce almost dripped onto the side of his lips. "What are you talking about? I want to bring you here beca—" he immediately stopped.
Lilith moved closer to him that their nose was about to touch. She wiped the sauce from the male's mouth, then leaned back. "Because what?" she asked, rubbing her red ears.
Shaun was stunned. That was so close that he could already smell Lilith's scent. "I mean, they were doing a fireworks display here, so I want to watch it with you," he took his drink and gulped it all.
"Fireworks?" Lilith repeated, turning her gaze to the plain, empty sky with the few stars twinkling above. "You like fireworks that much that you got all hyped up?" she mumbled.
Shaun heard it and immediately replied. "Yes! Want another waffle? Wait for me here, I will again.."
Lilith watched the young man's back walking away from her. Her thumping heart delivered a jolt of pain inside her. "Liar.." she whispered.
She shrugged her shoulders and sighed. Whatever Shaun was thinking, he'll never say it. That's his attitude. Always smiling around people.
Lilith grew up almost beside Shaun. Since they were childhood friends, she had a little insight about the young man's family.
When she was young, Shaun was always visiting their house. His nanny told her mom that her young master was always alone, despite having an older brother.
Thinking of Shaun's older brother, Lilith hadn't seen him until now.
Shaun came back, but he had no waffles in his hands. He immediately pulled the girl from the chair and ran away with her.
Lilith almost stumbled down. "H-Hey! W-What's wrong?!" she exclaimed.
"I saw a perfect spot to watch the fireworks..It's about to start so let's hurry!" Shaun replied, tightening his grip onto Lilith's wrist.
They arrived at the said place. It was like an old balcony at the park, though it was on a higher platform. That balcony was round and had ledges on it.
Shaun pulled Lilith once again, but this time, onto his chest. He gave the young lady a pat on the back. "There..there..catch your breath.." he brushed her hair. "I'm sorry for running too fast," he said.
Lilith felt the warmth from him. She pressed her ears onto him and felt his heartbeat. That jolt of pain came back to her. Lilith clenched her fist and bit her lower lip. "T-The f-fireworks.." she mumbled.
Shaun also looked down and locked his eyes on the young lady. "What about the fireworks?"
Lilith clenched his chest. "You hate fireworks, right? Then why?"
However, before she could get an answer, the sky lit up.Those colors started to stir up the dark surface of the sky above them.
Both of them looked up and watched the lights dance as they mixed with each other in symphony. The people that were below them also gathered and watched in awe.
"It's starting.." Shaun mumbled.
As the fireworks continued to lighten up the sky, his chest started to feel stingy, as if the emotions he's been holding until now wanted to stir him up.
"Is it really this good...to die on a day like this?" He whispered.
As soon as Lilith heard those words, her eyes widened. Completely shocked, she grabbed Shaun's shoulders and, to her surprise; the male was trembling.
Another firework shot up into the sky as it spread its light all over. It illuminated through them, which made Shaun's eyes visible.
Those childish and jolly eyes were gone. It was replaced by sorrow and sadness. Even Shaun couldn't hide it as tears formed from the sides.
"Shaun!!"
Lilith grabbed him tight and hugged him. "Shaun, stop it! Please don't!" she released a very heavy feeling that she wishes will reach the male. "I-It's not your f-fault!" Lilith exclaimed, also holding back her tears.
If there was something she regrets, it was when the day she accidentally visited Shaun's house. She was still young that time, just like Shaun, she also didn't understand what really happened.
That was the first time in her life she saw Shaun crying. He was shut that day, completely not talking to anyone.
Shaun slightly pushed Lilith, he smiled. "Until now, I'm still wondering. Do I really deserve forgiveness?" He brushed Lilith's hair and lowered his head. "Thank you, for always being there even though I'm really annoying.."
