Mae's POV
*********************
Free, I haven't felt the feeling since I was 7.
All I know now is darkness. I am afraid... that if I open my eyes I will once again be disappointed with the sight of a gloomy cell where my life and the lives of the people I once cared about ended. But I do anyway....it's just the way things go.
Opening my eyes I'm surrounded by a basic room with white, Beige, and blacks for a color scheme. I panic, my restraints no longer binding me. Hobbling over to a door that led to a bathroom I looked at myself in the mirror.
How long has it been? Who I saw now was not the girl I once was...who I once knew. The girl I saw had obsidian black hair, and pensive yellow eyes. Her skin was covered in bruises and scars unimaginable. I didn't recognize her, she looked...broken.
"oh good Mae, you're awake."
My body jolted across the bathroom and into the furthest corner from the door. I didn't even hear him come in!
"I'm sorry if I scared you, I didn't think you'd be awake so soon."
I swallowed the lump in my throat wishing I had water to replenish my dry mouth. He said my real name, how did he know!
"I can explain everything, but how about we get you something to eat first, how does that sound?"
"I don't eat," I stated flatly.
"Correction, you won't allow yourself to eat. I'm surprised you've even lived this long; it must be because you haven't fully changed."
Seth walked over to the small seating area and gestures for me to sit across from him. I was hesitant but decided I needed answers.
"What are you talking about?"
"During the fight I went into your mind. I saw only bits and pieces of your life; memories to be precise, and even felt what you felt. I'm sorry, I know I didn't see much but I saw enough to know what happened to you was criminal."
The room was silent as we stared at each other.
"So you know what I am?"
"No," he said, defeated. "We are trying to figure that out."
"We?"
"Close friends of mine."
I stood up, anxiety taking over my better judgement.
"No! You know I don't need your help, thanks but no thanks. You know Alec is just going to come looking for me and when he does...I'll just be captured again."
"Mae I won't let that happen to- "
"Stop calling me that! Only my family..."
My heart sank at the thought of them. It's been years since I even thought about them let alone talk about them.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you."
My chest constricted as memories I kept at bay had dared to flood my mind.
We were interrupted by a knock at the door. An older lady had walked. She looked to be in her early 50s, and had beautiful brown hair with undertones of old grey hair. She wore a black knee length dress and her white doctors coat over it.
"This is Lilly, a trusted friend of mine and my personal doctor. She's just here to go over some medical procedures. Is that ok?"
I looked Lilly over one more time. She held a warm smile on her face and it grew once she saw I was looking at her.
I nodded and she approached me slowly holding out her hand.
"It's nice to meet you Mae. Is it ok if I ask you some questions? If they're too personal you don't have to answer, simply ask me to move on."
She sat in the chair adjacent to mine with a clipboard and pen in her hands.
"Well then let's start; what's your full name?"
"Mae Azrael Valdis."
"Parents?"
I hesitated, what were my parents' names again?
"Jasper and Rahsalyn Valdis."
"Any siblings?"
"Um yes. My brothers Adrian and Dylan, and my sister Hope."
"What is your race?"
"I was born...an angel of light, I don't know what I am now."
"And have you always looked like this?"
"No, my hair was originally white, and I wasn't born with some of the additional features to my body."
"What consists of your diet?"
"Angels hardly ever eat anything. I don't know what I eat now, it's been over 10 years."
"Well Mae, I don't want to tire you out with questions. I know answering all these must've been overwhelming. I'm going to take a quick blood sample then I'll be on my way. Your health seems to have improved overnight but if you feel any different please let me or Mi-Lord know immediately."
She took some of my blood and when she was done Seth walked her out of the room.
"I'm sorry if you were overwhelmed."
"It's fine."
He stood by the door gesturing for me to follow him. I was sceptical but stood and walked with him down the labyrinth hallways.
We arrived at a giant kitchen and he proceeded to take out a bunch of food from the pantry while I found a chair at the island.
I saw him get to work as he maneuvered around the kitchen effortlessly. Whatever he was making made my stomach cry out for even the smallest taste, it had been at least a decade since I last ate.
It wasn't long before he put a plate in front of me. I eye it suspiciously.
"It's Fettuccine Alfredo. Try it."
I didn't budge.
"One bite, if you don't like it you don't have to eat it."
I took a deep breath, I did smell great. Twisting the noodles around the fork, I held it up to my mouth and hesitantly took a bite.
My stomach growled out with joy, and my taste buds erupted to life. It was the best thing I've ever tasted!
I didn't even have to second guess whether or not I wanted another bite. It didn't take long for me to down my entire plate and hold it out to him.
"More...please," I'm sure my face was red.
He laughed and filled my plate with another helping before filling his own, and sitting in the chair next to mine.
Seth's POV
******************
I watched in amusement as she devoured the plate I set out in front of her. It wasn't long before she shyly held her plate towards me and asked for seconds.
I sat down in the chair next to hers after fixing my plate. This was nice. It had been a while since I sat down and actually enjoyed a nice meal.
Mae didn't even get halfway through her second plate before she dropped her fork and ran down a nearby hallway.
Panic rose inside of me and I super sped to the bathroom she was in. She was throwing up her stomach's contents into the toilet. Joining her on the floor I held back her hair while running soothing circles on her back.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, "I should've known not to give you that much food after it being so long."
We stayed there for the next 20 minutes and when she tried to move she fell; quickly I scooped her into my arms. Her body was trembling and she was sweating, no doubt from the immense exhaustion her body just went through.
How long had she been held captive? She must've been extremely young, I'm surprised she lasted this long. Then again she was of great use to Alec.
I reached her room and laid her gently on the bed. Her breathing had become heavier and I mind linked Lilly to come over.
Lilly changed Mae into some new clothes and put a fresh cold towel on her head.
"She's malnutritioned so you need to be more careful of how much she eats until her health is restored. She's fine right now, just exhausted."
She took her leave shortly after and I was about to take mine before Mae's hand grabbed hold of my arm.
"Please...don't leave me. Don't leave me all alone... please mom."
Mom.
~Flashback~
********************
"Mommy...daddy?"
Silence.
"Mommy, daddy where are you!"
It's dark...I'm scared. I want my mom and dad; please. I don't want to be alone, I cried. There was no one, not a soul.

My heart sank at the memory of being left alone. Sighing I pulled up a chair next to her bed and leaned back with my arms crossed.
What am I gonna do with you?
