Chapter 66 - Chapter 66 - The Alfheim Region (1)

"Are you saying Brother Chen was a Shura demon?" Fei Luo asked in confusion.

"A half demon" Chu Yinxi replied " almost two decades ago a foreigner from the human realm, Yue SoRan came to the City of Pasts in search of the relic of a divine being and encountered the daughter of Shura clan's leader, Chu Jia. Being geniuses of their individual races the two had opposing views and sought to triumph over each other for 12 months. Through countless exchanges Chu Jia and Yue SoRan begun to understand each other's reason for fighting. As time passed the two eventually came to a ceasefire and Chu Jia's views towards the humans had begun to change. After two years of courtship Chu Jia had given birth to two boys for Yue SoRan, forgoing the Shura clan's customs of holding humans as an inferior race and treating them as livestock. Soon word of Chu Jia's courtship had spread throughout the Shura's Chu clan and Yue SoRan was summoned before the High Elder of the Shura clan, our uncle. Upon hearing the news of her lover being summoned Chu Jia immediately took Yue SoRan and fled the blood world, knowing that nothing good would come of him meeting her relative. However it wasn't long till they were caught by the Shuras and dragged back to the clan. The couple returned with an injured infant in their embrace and a torn expression as if they had lost their drive to live. That child was your brother, Chu Qian."

Yue Chen's eyes widened in surprise yet he maintained his composure with his gaze fixed onto the lady before him "why are you telling me this?"

Ignoring Yue Chen's questions Chu Xinyi continued "for the crime of breaking the Shura's traditions the already distraught Chu Jia was sentenced to a lifetime of torture in the Shura's confinement cell while her position as the next head revoked and passed onto me. Yue SoRan attempted to save Chu Jia but was severely injured and barely managed to escape with his life. Before leaving the City of Pasts Yue SoRan told me this: "Chu Yi is the name his mother left, but for his safety he is Yue Chen. If that child by any chance makes his way here please keep him safe, i beg of you"

Yue Chen who had been keeping his composure broke into a sudden laughter "I see" as his smile slowly faded stifling bloodlust seeped from his body as he narrowed his eyes "the Shura clan's Chu family, as a filial child i will be sure to pay them what is owed on my parent's behalf"

....

Yue Chen took a deep breath as he sat cross legged on his bed. Pushing the information he had just obtained to the back of his head he observed the changes in his body. The previous delicate balance between the Ice and Shadow elements had been broken causing the shadow element to go on a rampage throughout his body yet with the help of Chu Xinyi both attributes that were previously like oil and water were now under his complete control. Yue Chen gathered his shadow element in his palm, noticing the faint traces of the ice element melded into it he dispersed the energy.

"Hm?" while observing the changes to his body Yue Chen noticed a foreign energy in his body, pulsing as if it were attempting to match the rhythm of his heart. Immediately circulating his true energy Yue Chen felt his body grow hotter and and he was overcome by a sudden hunger.

"Chen'er?" Xian Fei called out as she pushed the room to the door open

Upon hearing the familiar voice Yue Chen came to his senses. Scanning his body for any damage he let out a breath of relief.

Xian Fei stood at the door, looking at the sweat covered Yue Chen with a bitter look. "The darkness in your eyes are getting deeper"

Yue Chen frowned at Xian Fei's words and closed his eyes. "You said something similar when we first met , about the darkness. If you have something to say explain it properly so i can understand "

Three Months Ago

Puff!

Yue Chen spat a mouthful of blood as his shadow energy ran rampant within his body. The internal injuries from his battle with YueTu had left him unable to rein in the chaotic energies on his own.

"You did well to not die at the Third Brother's hands, how amazing!" Yue Tao revealed an excited grin while suppressing the chaotic energy in Yue Chen's body. "What do you think, Fei Fei?"

Xian Fei looked at the battered Yue Chen fighting for dear life and an pitiful look appeared on her face. "Who is this senior? he must have lived through a lifetime of hardships to be carrying such heavy burdens"

Yue Tao laughed at Xian Fei's remarks as he continued to treat Yue Chen's injuries. "Senior? this youth here is the son of my First brother and isn't even 19 years of age which would easily make you his senior"

Xian Fei froze as she heard her master's words as she felt mixture of pity and surprise. Ever since she had comprehended sword intent she had obtained a strange ability to sense a person's emotions and the meaning behind them even though only faintly. A single glance at the youth before her and she could almost feel a mixture of negative emotions he was carrying. It was a deep, dark and stifling pit of emotions. "A dark pit of emotions"

"Hm?" Yue Tao asked in confusion at his disciple's strange remark.

"It is only a faint feeling yet i can tell you have suffered things mere man cannot hope to understand " Xian Fei said with a bitter look. "The darkness that shrouds you is a mountain that you shoulder as you traverse an endless mire"

"This is my disciple Xian Fei, though she often behaves in unexplained ways she is only 20 and has already comprehend sword intent" Yue Tao smiled as he introduced his prided disciple.

The present

Xian Fei was unable to fully make sense of how her gift worked but after Yue Chen's interaction with Chu Xinyi she could vividly see the darkness around Yue Chen grow. Having previously thought the dark shadows represented the chaotic state his energy was in Xian Fei thought by resolving the problem the shadows would disappear yet the darkness only continued to grow stronger.

Yue Chen was unable to make sense of anything that Xian Fei had said and simply closed his eyes to rest. "Let's continue this conversation another time. In three days we depart for the Alfheim region"
