Though Yue Chen didn't want to go his hand reached out to the middle aged man's and grabbed it. The feeling of de javu washed over him again.
I've seen this man before but where? Where am I?
The middle aged man grabbed Yue Chen's arm and dragged him along. Soon they arrived before a small carriage drawn by a blue pegasus and got in. Sitting next to Yue Chen the man took out a small vial "Take this and you'll become stronger"
"Strong enough to protect my mom?" a small voice came out when Yue Chen spoke up. It was at this time he realized this body didn't belong to him, it was a kid's body and he had no control over it.
"Yes, strong enough to protect your mommy" the man ushered the vial to Yue Chen's mouth and the content was swallowed quickly.
'Yue Chen grasped his hands and his eyes lit up " thank you mister!"
"Just call me Bishop Van, that's what all the children call me" Bishop Van laughed and looked at Yue Chen with anticipation.
"Ugh..... Bishop ...I don't feel so good" Yue Chen's body tilted and dark red veins pulsed on his face. With every passing second his expression became worse and he bellowed in pain "it hurts! Bishop make it stop!"
A gentle smile appeared on the Bishop's face as he neared Yue Chen "be a good little boy and hold it in"
resisting his urge to scream in pain the little boy that was Yue Chen asked through clenched teeth "Will you help my mom Mr. Bishop?"
"Only if you do what I say" Bishop Van replied indifferently
Popping sounds came from his bones and the pain made Yue Chen foam and shudder.
Bishop Van frowned and shook his head "You aren't the one either....where is the vessel I'm looking for? damn it! Song Yuan has one, Lei Lan, where is my candidate!?" a flying kick landed on Yue Chen's stomach sending him up into the air.
The pain was too much. Yue Chen's head spun as he gasped for breath. Bishop Van's words became incoherent with every passing moment becoming a blur and he closed his eyes.
"Get up" a burning slap landed on Yue Chen's face and he jumped up.
"You got lucky, I thought the pill would have killed you" Bishop Van patted Yue Chen's head "since you're still alive you're a valid candidate"
"Can....didate?" Yue Chen's body was abnormally weak and he felt like throwing up.
"It's nothing to worry about just keep doing what I tell you to, your mother is being treated as we speak" Bishop Van led Yue Chen out the carriage and into a sophisticated building called Seventh Angel Orphanage. Inside the building were a group of children not much older than Yue Chen split into groups of four.
"Go on make some friends" Bishop Van ushered Yue Chen to a group of 3
"That's the final group" a slender young lady walked over with a sheet of paper and passed it to Bishop Van "should we wait until the others arrive to begin?"
"No need" Bishop Van laughed and left the room with both hands buried in his pockets.
The following weeks Yue Chen was fed and catered for. He was taught by people from the church and performed to the best of his ability. During this time he also made a few friends.
"Bai Chen I heard all the orphans I'm group A were adopted, I wanna get adopted too!" a blonde haired kid looked at Yue Chen with sparkling eyes.
Strangely enough the name Bai Chen didn't come off as awkward or foreign to Yue Chen and he responded timely, as if it were his given name "I guess that's nice"
The blonde haired kid noticed Yue Chen's frown and inquired "don't you wanna get adopted too?"
Bai Chen shook his head " I just want to see my mom"
Soon after, Bishop Van arrived at the orphanage and passed a note to Bai Chen and left. As he read the paper Bai Chen's tiny hands trembled. After a few seconds Bai Chen gradually calmed down.
Bai Chen soon began to understand the meaning behind the note as time went on. As the days went by there was a sudden shortage of food in the orphanage. The first few days weren't so bad but as time progressed the situation declined. Soon the orphanage was completely out of food. The children had tried leaving to find food but there seemed to be a spell that prevented anyone from getting out.
After a week with no food the weaker children were becoming sick one after another. After the second week a child would pass away from starvation every other day. Soon the worst had happened. The children began preying on each other. First it was the body of the deceased children, next it was the living.
In this manner the total amount of 4900 children was reduced to 2000 in the span of two months.
Bai Chen and a few others had refused to devour another human and the lack of food was taking a toll on them.
"Bai Chen I won't make it please eat me when I die survive for both of us" the blonde kid reached out a malnourished hand to weakly tap Bai Chen's shoulder.
Bai Chen refused "I'm not doing it!"
"You have your mom's life on the line don't you? It's okay the rest of us are all orphans we don't have anywhere to go back to anyway" a azure haired little girl looked at Bai Chen reminding him he wasn't living for only himself. His hunger had been screaming at him for months and his already small physique had become smaller. If he didn't eat soon he would lose his sanity before his life. Clenching his fists Bai Chen made up his mind. Grabbing his chair he smashed it against the floor until the legging came off. Though it wasn't particularly sharp edged it was enough. "Close your eyes, both of you"
In the next few minutes screams echoed from the orphanage followed by a muffled groan.
"open your eyes"
The duo opened their eyes and subconsciously retreated in fear. Bai Chen was painted in blood with in indifferent expression. In one hand was a bloody piece of wood and the other held the warm body of another kid from the orphanage.
The note had started making sense to him now "your mom's life depends on your 'performance' " the nauseating feeling made him want to throw up but nothing came up he was empty.
"Eat we'll survive together"
