An urge to destroy something overcame me very quickly with my own frustration. Before I knew it, this woman had grown tired of waiting at home every day for me to return with another job not won.
At some point, she began to urge me to let her try to get a job as well. I was hesitant, of course. Who knows what sort of law she'd end up breaking without knowing. More-so, if she ends up in a bad neighborhood, how am I supposed to ensure her safety? Even if she could fight, I wasn't confident in sending her out by herself.
"I have to do something in order to repay your kindness. Don't insult me."
"No, I wasn't insulting you..."
"Then what else is it?"
"I- I simply want to ensure your safety. Nothing more, nothing less."
"You think I'm not able to carry my own? I'm sure I'm more than capable of a simple task like this."
"Uh-huh... and what sort of story are you going to prepare for yourself when your employer starts asking questions?"
"Hm... I'll just say I'm from Osaka."
"You know what Osaka is?"
"Yeah, it was on your magic box. Apparently the people from there are pretty and talk weird. Is there a problem with their brains though, I don't want to put myself so low."
Apologize to Osaka!
Although, it was partially my fault for leaving the TV on when I leave like she's some sort of dog whos attention I need to occupy.
"We could go with some fake story to disguise yourself... but how are you gonna explain us living under the same roof?"
"Eh? Wouldn't I just say we're lovers?"
"No..."
"Hm?"
This was going to be harder than I had anticipated. Then again, everything in regards to this girl has been difficult.
A job, huh? I guess a place with paper applications would be the best decision. I'm going to have a lot to think about.
*
Going place to place, just to find myself a desk to slave at once again for years on end. Am I an idiot or what?
At least I'm not alone in this, people all over the country work themselves to unimaginable degrees behind cardboard walls and stacks of papers. My job is simply one of the millions of them.
At some point, I ended up grabbing a cheap job just so I could get by, I was going back to square one and making my way up the ladder all over again. I was going to have to cut back on some things for a while.
In the meantime, what sort of job would suit someone from another world?
A convenience store job... no. Flyer girl... while it doesn't require much talking, it doesn't fit her. Waitress job... definitely not.
Thinking more about it, the fewer jobs looked fitting. I walked a few blocks in each direction from my apartment and no job looked fitting for a girl who came from another world. Then again, I'd be more surprised if there was one.
I decided to cut my losses and work it out later on. If anything, she can learn to do volunteer work or something that doesn't require heavy amounts of talking.
Of course, I'm sure she'll have complaints.
