Nicklaus was in his usual patrol route when he noticed a man standing on a sky scrapper. He at first thought it was a suicide attempt but when he looked closer, he almost squelled in delight. It was the one eyed pirate himself, Nick Fury. He put on a pocket face then headed to the building.
"Hey buddy, it's a long way down," he said as he hovered in front of him.
"I'm Nick Fury, director of..."
"I thought SHIELD died out with that woman, Carter was it?" Nicklaus asked. Nick Fury frowned at the casualness of how he said that name.
"You know about us?" he asked.
"Just read your mind, dude. I have to say you better get to a shrink before you start having dimentia as you grow old," Nicklaus said as he slowly flew around him. Nick was starting to get ticked off by the playfulness of this Spandex guy.
"So you know why I am here?" he asked.
"Avengers, huh? What made you come with that?" he asked.
"I thought you read my mind,"
"Too spooky in there,"
"Well, we would like to have beings like you to help us save earth from other beings like you who might not be so friendly towards normal humans," he said.
"Ah, you want me to be Earth police? Your heart is in the right place and all but your organisation is quite the black faced one. When you go public and they know you or the Earth is in serious trouble and I am nowhere to be found then I will help you guys. Till then, remember my words. A Greek mythical creature can destroy any knight's shield as long as the shield is not strong enough," Nicklaus said then flew away.
"What the hell? What kind of message is that?" Nick asked himself then called for extraction. When he was in the helicopter he suddenly got up and realized something.
"The Knight's shield is us and what have we been fighting for a long time? Hydra, a Greek mythical beast. Does that mean Hydra is still there and we might be in trouble?" he asked himself then went back to his thinking.
2008 arrived and the news Nicklaus was waiting for arrived. Tony Stark had been kidnapped or what the public knew, he had been killed when he was in the Middle East in a company pitching to the military. He knew the age of the superheroes might have arrived and would mean he wouldn't be alone again.
He kept on keeping his island safe as he waited and three months later, Stark escaped and a month later, he revealed to the world he was Ironman, the very first automata to be created. People asked him if he would be a superhero like Superior Man but he said he was balancing that and his company while Superior Man did not even have a job in his alter ego. It was a low blow but it made people realize something they had been neglecting; their favourite hero might be jobless! When Nicklaus was asked about this he came to realize he has been spending too much time as a superhero he forgot about his alter ego.
"We all make sacrifices and we superheroes need to sacrifice most of all. Also, I do not need to eat and for the other necessities I am not in need for them," he answered a small boy.
"If I became a superhero does that mean I don't need to eat?" he asked.
"No. You need food, even superheroes need to eat. But I do not because I am different,"
"Does that mean you do not poop or take a bath?" he asked.
"I indeed do not poop but intake a bubble bath two times a day," he told him. It's crazy how words from a superhero can influence the society. Soon, parents reported that their children, especially boys started loving bubble baths and they looked forward to them every morning and evening. Even most teenagers were influenced and soon, if you did not have a bubble bath then you are not clean!
"Sheesh, humans are crazy!" Nicklaus sighed when he saw this.
"I never thought they would be so easy to influence," Tsune said in amusement.
"They are that's why politicians lie to get elected," Nicklaus told her.
National City got its very first mutant incident. Nicklaus was walking down the street, posing for a picture or two with fans until an explosion occured. He looked at the direction and saw it the main bridge that people used to get to the mainland if one did not want to use a boat or a plane. He flew over and found a teenager in a black T-shirt and pants fighting off armoured guys. The bridge was okay (he build it himself using his reality warping) but the people were not. Stray bullets would hurt some of them and he could already see some were dead from the previous explosion.
"Enough!" Nicklaus shouted and landed in front of them. Before they could register this, he clapped his hands and the shockwave threw them to the ground. Nicklaus controlled it so that only the parties fighting would feel the pressure.
"Take your fighting to the desert but as long as you are in National Island, you are all forbidden to," he told them.
"Stay away from this, Superior Man. This is a matter of..." the man did not finish for a punch connected to his stomach and it's sufficient to say he might as well have gone to the North Pole because of the force of that punch.
"I know who you are. You are those guys hunting down mutants. He is a mutant, I can feel that but why are you trying to capture him?" Nicklaus asked them.
"Domestic terrorism. He caused a small sized explosion when he awakened his X gene and injured quite a lot back in the mainland," one of them answered. Nicklaus looked at the boys who seemed terrified and frowned.
"Sentinel services is known as the number one mutant hating group in the world and I do not trust your competence in handling this,"
"You are obstructing justice!"
"I will question the boy and see what happened. But do not worry, both him and your organisation is going to pay for the deaths, injuries and destruction of property caused here today," Nicklaus said making them look around and realize what they had done. Nicklaus turned to the boy who looked at him hopefully. "He seems more afariad of you than going to jail, what did you guys do to such a young man?"
"Nothing he did not deserve coming to him," one of them said. Suddenly, Nicklaus reached out to him and broke his leg without hesitation making the man scream out in pain. Soon, the police arrived and we're glad Superior Man arrived there first.
"Capture them first. They are to be investigated for crimes against humanity. I will bring this boy to you later. He's a hotcake to you guys and mutants might attack the station to get him out," Nicklaus said.
"Sure thing, Supe," one of the officers said and went to arrest them. Nicklaus looked around and saw the destruction caused by this bastards and shook his head.
"Everyone who might have lost someone here, I apologize for not coming sooner. I will try my best to make sure the organizational involved in this pays for this," he said out loud and the people clapped enthusiastically. He got hold of the boy by his shirt and flew off. The boy did not even know what was going on until he was thrown onto a wet floor. He rolled a bit before getting up.
"That's minor mishandling," he shouted but Nicklaus was not in the mood.
"You brought those bastards in my city and caused the death of twenty five people during your little fight. You realize I can pin you with that and you will never get out, right?" he said.
"But you are a hero, you can't do that," the boy said.
"Grey shades, kid. You are a minor but that does not mean you cannot be sentenced to imprisonment," Nicklaus told them. Just then, Nicklaus saw the boy's eyes become hollow for a moment then he turned and looked at him.
"Superior Man, it is a pleasure to meet you," the boy said in a polite tone.
"You must be that bald headed old man collecting mutants to your school," Nicklaus said.
"My name is Professor Xavier and it is an honour to meet you. Also, thank you for intervening when our fellow mutant was being captured," Xavier said.
"Do you know the amount of trouble this boy brought? Many of the citizens in National Island are mutants and they have found leave here but this one had to bring the Sentinel Services here. It will cause unrest and destruction on the citizens because of it," Nicklaus fumed.
"If you would give us the boy then we promise we will take care of him," Xavier said.
"I can't because he is a criminal now. He is involved in the deaths of twenty five people on that bridge," Nicklaus said then looked out to the city. "But, if you can prove it was self defense and the Sentinel Services fired first then the court will acquit him or even send him to the mainland where you can fight for him for all I care."
"You have no love for Sentinel Services do you?"
"What gave that impression?" Nicklaus asked then flew off
