Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Dead Snow

We were outside a medium sized shop in Libert, it was at the 2nd district - its commonly called the merchant district by people living in here. The shop in question was the shop of the quest giver, or the merchant we had to escort through the dark forest.

Just by seeing his shop you could see that he was a low-mid ranking merchant, they actually make 30-40 gold coins per month, seeing that has spent 10 gold coin on this quest I knew that he was transporting something expensive.

I looked inside the shop to find out that he was a weapon merchant, I could see very strong weapons at his shop. I was pretty impressed, since some of the weapons in there were made from elemental steel, I even found a pure steel katana and the surprising part was that it was named.

I got interested and appraised it,

[Status]

Name: Shiyuki (Dead Snow)

Pure Steel Katana

Stats:

Attack: 400 (+100)

Durability: 5,000/5,000 (+1,000/1,000)

Magic Conductivity: E (E+)

"Emma, how much money do we have?" I asked her, "Why" she replied.

"I found a good weapon for Osiric, and the best part, it's even named. It's made of elemental steel so I won't get any more expensive than 10 gold coins." I answered, pointing to it.

"What!?" Emma exclaimed as she appraised the sword I had just seen.

"What happened?" Osiric asked Emma, he was currently behind Emma.

"We have just found a named weapon in this shop, and its even cheap." Emma replied to Osiric, she was actually very surprised but she tired to control herself.

A named weapon are special kind of weapons, you can only have a single named weapon as getting more would rip your soul apart. You also won't be able to use any other any other weapons other than it. But for that price, they are stronger than usual and can be boosted by upgrading it.

Due to that feature, people would want a named weapon over a even magic weapons, as they wouldn't cost as much as a magic weapon, in terms in mana, and would be generally stronger than them.

Because of that, named weapons are very rare - for example: if magic weapons are rare, then named weapons would be uber legendary rare, it even more rarer than artifacts, also named weapons posses a weak ego so you have to chosen by the weapon to even be able to use it truly, otherwise you are just using a better magic weapon.

And the final piece of information, if you don't have a max level appraisal skill or its equivalent, you won't even notice a weapon is named or not. I and Emma were hoping to use to it to scam the merchant, since even if Osiric's not chosen by the weapon, its still better than his current weapon.

Hell, there were cases where a low level blacksmith would make a named weapon and it would be lost forever - that also adds to the rarity of it, since max level appraisal's equivalent is being an A-ranker or a grand saint class since there are no skill like it and natives can't get the skill.

I explained Osiric what I and Emma had just found, Osiric smiled sinisterly like us. We then made a plan to scam the hell out of the merchant. Actually if the sword chose Osiric, I and Emma won't even regret spending all of our money, heck, even going into debt won't be a problem - unless its too much - on the weapon as it would save us soo much money down the road and would increase our party's problem by a huge margin.

Then we heard the merchant suddenly come out of the store, we were now ready to ask him the price of Dead Snow or Shiyuki.

"So you are the ones that accepted my quest?" the merchant kindly asked us.

The merchant wore a red robe, it looked really good. It looked exactly like how you would expect medieval merchants to look. The merchant wore a monocle as well, he had blue eyes and blond hair. His facial feature was above average, even more handsome that me - though not as much as Osiric, but he was an exception.

He looked really kind, even Osiric had a little hint of sadness in his face - though you won't even be able to notice it unless you were close to him like us or had the same personality traits we had. It was the same for Emma and I as well. We would feel very bad if we scammed such a kind guy, though, getting a strong weapon named weapon, and if it chose Osiric, the joy from it would trump any emotions we had felt - except the despair we had felt at the Orc village.

Then the merchant quickly talked about the quest, it took about 3 minutes for him to fully explain the quest in detail. In short, it was basically helping him go through the dark forest. The guards were busy so he couldn't rely on them and this delivery was very important for him, so he put out a quest for it at the adventurer's guild, knowing that we will do anything for money and rewards - it was very sad to hear, but at the end of the day we aren't any better as we took this quest only for its reward.

He also told us his name, I then quickly appraised him.

He was very high leveled and even had high level skills, I wasn't actually surprised by his low stats as his class didn't give him a lot of stats but gave him massive boosts in his skills.

"Dave, how much will that sword cost?" I asked him, "Oh! that. No one buys that sword, since its made from pure steel. I really want to get rid of it since its taking up space in the shop and is just sitting there collecting dust, so I can sell it to you for 1 gold coin." Dave answered.

We got excited, elemental steel weapons generally would cost about 5 gold coins at minimum so it surprising to find that we can have that sword, which was even named, at only 1 gold. Though I get why it didn't sell that well, since just having a minor pure affinity is very rare as only 1/1,000,000 people have it, and having a perfect affinity is super uber rare as only 1/1,000,000,000,000 have it.

Though my affinities' rarity was 1/1,000,000,000,000,000 normally, so I wasn't the one to complain. We quickly controlled ourselves. "Thank you." I thanked him, this time I didn't want to haggle at all, hell I was ready to give him 10 gold coins for it.

"Os, can you try it?" I asked Osiric. He nodded and went inside the shop and took out the katana, he then swung it "lightly" a couple of times, the gust from the slashes actually threw a little dirt around the place.

Dave, seeing it became very happy because a strong group of adventurers had accepted his quest, which was very reassuring for him since this delivery was very important for him.

Tyler and Emma were very surprised, since even a light strike from Osiric won't create such winds. Osiric was even surprised - though a normal person won't be able to see it.

They were surprised to see the result of their appraisal.
