Chapter 1 - Armageddon System

"Lin, where are we going?" My love whispered in my ears, floating around me as I made my way through thousands of corpses. The army has already cleared this area of any undead.

"I heard Professor Jonah Green's lab was here, we need to find it," I jumped over the bodies lightly while holding my rifle.

"I heard he was already dead," She dived next to me, floating upside down as she yawned. I smiled without saying anything.

We kept walking through the destroyed city, heading toward the tower in the distance. I wore my army boots with tight sportswear, a black hoodie with its hood covering my head. My clothes were smudged in different places with mud and blood, but their condition was still good.

Lem was beside me, wearing her favorite white dress. It was knee-height with blue flowers blooming on it. It was just like the last time I saw it, new and unbloodied.

Bang!

A bullet landed next to my feet, stopping me in my tracks. I looked in the direction it came from and a man wearing an army uniform had his gun pointed at me.

"Who are you?!" The man shouted, his disheveled beard and bloodshot eyes bespeaking of his instability. I could see his hand shaking, probably having low blood pressure due to starvation.

"I'm just passing by, please don't mind us."

"Us? Are there others?" The man looked left and right in panic, and I shook my head.

"I mean me and my girlfriend, sir, there's no one else here. Not as far as I know." I smiled and gestured toward Lem, and the latter waved at the man. However, it seemed this man was unstable as he couldn't see Lem.

"Are you crazy? There's no one here!" The man shouted, and I furrowed my brows in annoyance. Crazy people were increasing in number these days.

"What do you want from me?" I shrugged and decided to play along with him, hoping to calm him down. I needed some time to reach my rifle and the man had his aim toward my body.

"F-food! Give me any that you have on you!" The man shouted with zeal in his eyes, his eyes looking savagery.

"I can give you a portion, but I can't give you all." I put down my bag while reaching to my rifle as if I couldn't take out the food without putting it away.

"Don't move!" The man shouted as he pulled the trigger, a firing sound echoing in the street. I felt pain in my leg as I fell clutching it, a bullet hole could be seen there.

"Lin! Are you okay? How dare you?!" Lem shouted at the man but he ignored her. I smelled her scent at such proximity and it worked wonders to calm me down.

"Throw your bag over here!" The soldier shouted as he moved his rifle with a threatening gesture. I clenched my fists tightly as I had no choice but to give it to him.

I threw my bag as I gritted my teeth due to the pain. The bag landed next to the man and he picked it up as he retreated while pointing his gun at me. Making sure I couldn't move, he fled sprinting.

BOOM!

A deafening impact shook the ground we stood upon and the man fell on his face. I could see the tower in the distance that I have been going to crumble as a single figure emerged from one of its floors.

It was a Kier, one of the highest-ranking zombies out there. It was four meters tall and had the body of a Greek god. Roaring, it looked at us as its mouth opened 10 inches wide revealing its sharp teeth.

It was my first time seeing one, as it was truly rare. The man stood up and also looked at him. I could see his pants turning a darker color, a sign that he pissed himself due to fear.

"AAAAHH!" The man screamed and ran away toward one of the buildings to hide. I smirked to myself as I thought how unreliable the army was in these trying times.

"Lin, we need to escape!" Lem was crying in horror as well, and I picked myself up. My leg was bleeding but I had to limp toward my survival. I picked up my bag while watching the Kier in the distance, and it was getting ready to jump down.

With a single powerful jump, the tower's windows shattered as the monster bolted in my direction like a bullet. I was unable to do anything but watch it land in front of me, causing a shockwave that threw me several meters in the air.

The monster headed my way but my hand was already in my bag, taking off the safety pin. I threw my bag at the monster who tried to catch it, clearly toying with me.

BOOM!

The grenade inside the bag exploded and the monster shirked, a small wound on its arm. It was laughable that this all it could do, but I wasn't done yet.

Taking a deep breath, my skin turned red as I channeled the blood qi inside of it. With a powerful jump, I was already a hundred meters away.

Qi was a powerful ability, but it was lacking as it could never contend with bullets. I was merely a first-grade user and couldn't use it for long, so it soon ran out and I fell to the ground.

Another landing sound came from behind me, and I was too scared to look back. I tried to flee but I felt like I was hit by a train from the back as I smashed into a building.

I fell to the ground helplessly, looking at the zombie who came forward to me. Its decaying skin was horrifying to look at, and it touched my face as the zombie lifted me by the head.

Lem was nowhere to be seen anymore, and I was glad she was away. The zombie was grinning as it looked at me, and I felt anger and shame filling my heart. I bit on his wounded arm in helpless struggle, some of its blood entering my body.

The monster crushed my head.

[Armageddon System is rewinding the timeline.]

I opened my eyes to my college's ceiling and the sounds of my roommates shouting.
