"Wakey wakey eggs and bakey". I open my eyes and squint to hide them from the suns blare. When my vision begins to focus I see that horrific unsettling grin, and a hatted man I wished I would never see again. "How ya doin kiddo, ya ready for school"? I push him aside and sit up, looking toward the sky I juggle my options, and asked myself if I really wanted to follow through with the old man's plans.
"You've made your decision, I can see it in your sad little eyes, now get up and clean up, jeesh you smell like the dumpsters secret recipe. And when your done, come over here so I can teach you these commands", the man put his hand over his nose. That bastards always telling me what to do like im his child or something, it pisses me off.
In order to clean up I usually sneak water bottles from the inspector and the clean up group of the junkyard. "There you are". I watch as two black trucks pull up. I slipped on the pile of trash I was hiding behind and quickly darted back for cover. Poking my head out my eyes dart back and forth checking if someone saw me. "What are you doin kid". My heart nearly drops to the bottom of my stomach. "Shhhh... what the hell"! My hands swing to the side in anger.
"Oh I get it, your trying to go commando, without the rambo". He shows off his ego as if he knows it all. "Don't be so hard on yourself just ask the box". He puts out his hand and reveals the scriptures with a smile. "I can't read", I whisper eagerly. "Just look to the box and say, 'Lupis Telemorphus', than think about where you want to be". I stare down at the box and look back to the trucks. " Uh.. okay, here goes something, Lupis Telemorphus". I close my eyes and think about the image. "No you idiot, you have to be touching the box". The man slams the box into my chest knocking the breath out of me.
"Okay okay". I grab the box and closed my eyes. The box began to shake rapidly as I recited the words. "Lupis Telemorphus"! Immediately after the last syllable slipped out of my mouth I began to feel light headed. My body felt like it would just melt away, like I did not exist. For a moment I was happy until an intense force pushed inward on my body. It felt as if I was being crushed by tons and tons of gravity and I thought I would end up like a squashed can of beans.
Than after a while of intense agony my body relaxes. I felt like I was a flat tire being inflated by an air pump. Soon with my ears still ringing I open my eyes and i'm staring at the trunk of the two trucks. Blood begins to drip from my nose onto my feet. I look down at my hand to see the box. It was dark and blank as if I drained the life out of it. I look back up to the car and my vision begins to darken. The world begins to spin and next thing I know, i'm lost in total darkness.
When I awoke, I was struck with a cold case of deja vu. "Wakey wakey eggs and bakey. Glad to see your awake ya little light weight". "Ugh, my head. What the hell happened"? I try to sit up but im stopped by the man's hand. "Not so fast you need to rest, that nimble human body isn't really built for this kinda beating". I look up in frustration staring into the sky. It seems staring into the sky is the only thing I do that keeps me grounded. Thinking about how vast it is reminds me of how small we are. It shows me that in the end, were never going to have enough power to really change things.
I stare into the red and green colors emitted by the sky and just beyond that I see the lights of Outter World glistening bright. I feel a profound warmth in my chest and I do the best to hold onto that feeling. The feeling of fire, the excitement to explore the unknown, so many dangers and possibilities , I thrive.. no I exist for that purpose.
She would be happy... to know that I was working as hard as I was. Using magic boxes and talking to a shapeshifting monster. It's the excitement she lives for. She loved it more than anything... even me. So she left, she worked hard, and she had the money. It was the perfect way to get away from this life. Outter World was her dream and I was just in her way. But don't worry, i'll be seeing you soon.
"Look kid, don't beat yourself up about it. Blame it on your parents for being so fragile. And besides, you have plenty of time to prepare for what's coming". I ignore him and keep my gaze on the lights from Outter World. "Just because your human doesn't mean you're unable to wield the box. There are plenty of humans who have mastered the box and live happily on Outter World. Well of course they are naturally talented and you would have to be of the most elite of your species to do that but forget about all that. I wouldn't mind breaking a few rules". I turn my body around until i'm facing the grey dirt and plant my head deep into it. "Alright kid stop moping around your sadness is starting to rub off on me. With extreme physical and mental training your body will be ready for the strain and your mind will be able to endure the withdrawal, so you still have a chance".
"So I just have to train and I can do crazy shit on the regular". I mumble in the dirt. "That's right kid, and i'll even train ya". "Hmm, great", I mumble sarcastically. What can an annoying old geezer do anyways. I mean as far as I know the chains on that briefcase sure as hell could be a fake to get me all riled up and scared. I start to get up but the minute I straighten myself a tremendous force equivalent to a sledgehammer slammed into the side of my ribs, throwing me 10 feet in the air.
"Training starts now", the man says in a witch like voice. He was wearing that grin except only this time I could sense a murderous intent coming from them. "What the fuck old geezer, what the hell is wrong with you", I say with blood dripping down my lips. I grasp the side of my ribs where I took impact and began to throw up blood. "No more old geezer little child, from now on you will refer to me as the great Oswald.
I chuckle at his performance. "Prepare"! In an instant the man who was 50 feet away was inches from my face. "Protect yourself"! He yells, from the corner of my eyes I see an arm swinging at extremes speeds. I bring my arms to my ears in order to protect my head. A force stronger than anything I have experienced before slams my shoulder sending me tumbling into a pile of trash.
"Agg" I yell in agony but I didn't have time to recover because Oswald was running straight for me. "Brace yourself and act accordingly"! Oswald yells before drop kicking me deeper into the pile of trash. It seems that the longer the fight goes on the harder he hits and the bigger he gets. He was now about six and a half feet tall with tons of extra muscle. So much muscle that the buttons on his shirt began to pop and spring off at the speed a bullet would travel.
"Are you trying to kill me," I yell. "This is an assessment and your failing, in a battle of opponents one who asks to many question shall receive answers in the afterlife". Oswald's voice begins to deepin the more he grows. Soon smoke begins to emanate from his skin. Than I see a black box with gold markings levitate over him. "Lupis abomination". His mouth moves but I couldn't make out what he said.
He completely stops and remains still, I soon realize everything around me had a red tint. Everything was frozen. Than Oswald begins to move. One step, two steps, one foot after the next he approaches me, eyes never leaving my own. "You are weak and incompetent, irrelevant and naive, utterly useless in my book". My heart rate begins to rise as I think of ways to escape. But I can't escape, my body was frozen with fear. I couldn't move a muscle. Soon enough, him and me were standing face to face gazing into eachothers eyes.
Sweat dripped down my temple as I wished it would just end. "Be gone" Oswald raises his hand, and I close my eyes. I'm sorry I couldn't make it. I'll see you in the afterlife Fiona.
