Chapter 74 - Visions of a life that wasn't his

Felix felt a throbbing pain in his head as he started clutching it with his paws, he wasn't sure what happened but the moment his soul made contact with the piece of soul that he ripped away from Wu Xiao it immediately left his mindscape like it was frightened of him.

But he also felt a force that he couldn't resist the moment he touched the soul, it was so great and had a sacred type of feeling that Felix didn't understand at all.

The moment this sacred feeling washed over his mindscape he realized that things won't go well for him and in the end, he got his soul injured due to the clash of energies! The good thing is that Wu Xiao was in the same situation as him.

He couldn't even open his eyes due to the intense pain and it somehow felt that the fragmented memories coming from that piece of the soul weren't stopping, he somehow got connected to Wu Xiao the moment his soul piece returned to his, but it was only a one-way connection from Felix to Wu Xiao.

He started to see memories that weren't his!

(***)-(Indicates changes between 1st POV and 3rd POV)

I couldn't see anything.

I couldn't feel anything.

Who was I?

Where was I?

All I could understand was darkness, everything around me was dark even though I couldn't see nor feel, I could understand, and my understanding made me feel that I was in a dark, dark place.

I understood something was wrong, I was... my name was? Felix!

I know who I am, my name is Felix and I am a cat, why am I here? What is here?

I could suddenly feel my heartbeat accelerating, something was going to happen, I started to feel my body and I gained my senses back gradually... I opened my eyes and I looked around only to realize that I just hatched from an egg!

Did cats hatch from eggs?

I was sure they didn't.

Did that mean that the connection between me and Wu Xiao's soul led me to see his whole memories besides fragments?

I didn't really care about them if I was honest.

To me he was just an enemy just like all of the others, all I had to do was kill him!

As I tried to move this new body I understood immediately that it was impossible... I could only look as things happened.

I was picked up by a mature man with dark eyes who had a scar on his face and wore formal clothing, I didn't really understand what happened most of the time as the memories were blurry due to the owner of the soul not remembering properly but as time passed I saw how Wu Xiao grew up and was hailed as a prodigy, his first words happened at 3 months old, he started to fly at 5 months old when normally the children of their tribe would start flying when they were around 2-3 years old.

All of this information was forcefully instilled in my skull as I unconsciously listened to the voices that were talking around me.

It was actually quite annoying but I could feel that the owner of the body that I was in was getting his ego inflated quite a lot by the praise that came from his acquaintances and family.

I started to get annoyed, I didn't want to see his memories but they never stopped!

I saw him grow up from a small raven to a teen, his training which consisted of several breathing techniques that I memorized for later, they were about intelligence and soul which was something only the raven tribe had.

I realized that it wasn't that bad...

As more time passed I finally reached the peak of his memories when he was contacted by his God!

Then I could feel my head hurt again, so hard that my connection was forcefully severed and I woke up back in my body with the same migraine as before.

Wu Xiao was glaring at me with bloodshot eyes and it seemed like he was ready to bite a big piece out of my body. (***)

Felix understood what happened, somewhat, he ended up with something out of the connection while Wu Xiao just got enraged 3 times more, 50-60 of his life had been seen through by Felix and he felt some of the raven tribes secrets had leaked out, which meant that he would surely be punished even if he successfully killed him!

The chance of that happening was rather low as he glanced at Felix's body and then at his, he understood that his soul was injured and it didn't matter who had the stamina advantage anymore, Felix was in the same situation as him but he didn't feel like fighting anymore... He was just tired.

While Felix wanted to kill him the moment he gave a command to his body he felt a rather sluggish response and he could barely take a few steps forward.

Wu Xiao shook his head as his reaction speed was the same as Felix's but he swiftly transformed into his original form as he slowly flew into the skies and disappeared, Felix was a few steps behind him but he couldn't fly so he just looked towards the sky.

"A failure..."

Felix muttered but at this point, he didn't care anymore as he dragged his injured body to Goro and the others, they finally had recovered, Goro wasn't stunned anymore and the other two had inserted their souls back into their bodies.

Felix looked behind him as he felt scorching hot energy appear then his eyes widened as he felt the barrier that they failed to breakthrough suddenly caving in!

But they hadn't done what they were supposed to how did someone else break it without touching the trigger item?

Felix didn't know what to do as his body wasn't currently in a good position, suddenly the air turned arid as the formation a few kilometers behind them was triggered!

It was most likely the Balton team with the Kangaroo and spider fellow...

Atleast none of them died, Felix thought positively.

Lindo looked towards the beam of light that exploded at the location of the formation and sighed as he said:

"Well, I guess it's our loss."

Bizkier felt down as he didn't get to employ many if any of his battle plans while Goro's stomach just started rumbling again.

Felix sighed as they started to leave the forest on the same path they took entering this far.

It took them around 1 hour at a leisure pace to enter the clearing from before and they met with all of the shamans that took them over to the island.

Siracha and Mashi waved to Felix and the others, they saw their performance through the observation place and they were rather satisfied with them.

The shaman from the Fishman tribe was glowing as he patted Altraeimo on the shoulder while praising him in their natal language.

Felix understood from these actions that he was most likely the one who broke through the barrier somehow.

Siracha came forward and patted each of them on the shoulder while Mashi gave them a thumbs up, then they said in unison as if they rehearsed this moment:

"You have all done great!"

Felix didn't feel much better but considering there were no consequences for their loss it meant that it was just a lot of wasted time.

Seeing his downed expression made Siracha a little bit uncomfortable as he patted Felix on the head and told him:

"You will all get your due rewards as for now we will have to listen to the ending speech before we can leave."

Felix didn't feel like listening to these old fogies talking but stayed there professionally and waited for them to start.

The Kangaroo shaman from the Balton continent came forward and said a few words, considering his team was one of the surviving ones he had the privilege of talking.

Then the raven shaman from the Haron continent came forward and said a few words as well, they were all downcast considering they didn't win and they all looked at the Fishman tribesmen with a bit of envy and hatred at the same time, it was obvious that Altraeimo didn't win because he was stronger than their participants but only because of luck! This also cemented them as enemies that they would surely try to attack sooner or later!

It was time for Siracha to say something and he didn't really care about his speech as he said some words before he stopped and made Mashi say some words as well.

In the end, the one who was supposed to say the biggest speech was the winner, the shaman of the Fishman tribe, but because he didn't know the language of the mainland Altraeimo came forward to talk for him.

No one batted an eyelid at the sniffling female fox duo, but they eyed them both with open adversity as if they were coyotes ready to bite into a piece of meat.
