As the golden rays of morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, Ardere slowly stirred from her slumber. Her head felt heavy, a dull ache pulsating at her temples, and her limbs felt weighed down by invisible chains. opening her eyes, she blinked several times, trying to adjust to the brightness of the room.
A groan escaped her lips as she gingerly sat up, the world around her spinning ever so slightly. The room seemed to sway in gentle waves, a reminder of the previous night.
Each movement felt sluggish and cumbersome, as if she were wading through a dense sea of molasses.
Despite this Ardere gained the resolve to push herself out of bed and shuffled to the washroom.
As Ardere lowered herself into the warm water it felt like her troubles began to wash away, the cool wet towel covered her eyes as she soaked in the bath for as long as she could.

Early in the morning the kitchen staff were lively, mostly due to the final preparations to put breakfast in front of the students, however most were distracted by the rich around that wafted through the air, overpowering the morning meals.
Magnum and the two other staff he had asked to come in early stared eagerly at the pot that had been on all night.
Excitement bubbled within him, field by the prospect of new flavors and the many new dishes he would taste.
soon enough Kenji was escorted into the kitchen by another staff member who, just like the others were waiting for him to arrive so they could all have a plate.
Kenji approached the pot and lifted the lid, Magnum observing over his shoulder as Kenji began stirring the mixture of vegetables and meat.
soon enough Kenji had asked for a plate and Magnum hastily handed him one as he began ladling the golden mixture onto it.
Magnum received the plate and stuck a fork into the meat first only for it to fall apart as he lifted it. The slow cooked goodness had eluded his attempt at tasting it once and it would not happen again.
Magnum opted to scoop up the food onto his utensil and the aroma wafted through the air, filling his senses with a mouthwatering of savory goodness. It was a moment of anticipation, curiosity, and the promise of a comforting and hearty meal.
As he took his first bite the meat practically melted in his mouth. it was a sensation of pure bliss, a harmony of flavors unfolded with each chew. Magnus closed his eyes, fully immersing himself in the experience.
That was until he heard someone clear their throat.
Opening his eyes he saw Kenji with a questioning look in his eyes.
Magnum looked down at the plate in his hand and exhaled. Magnum hadn't even realized he was holding his breath.
"This is fucking delicious" Magnus whispered and just as he did everyone began to swarm the pot, attempting to get a plate of their own. Even those who were working to get breakfast finished stopped in their tracks to try the food.
Kenji watched on in utter confusion as the staff of Demons nearly tore each other apart for a taste.
"This isn't even the good shit, what the fuck is wrong with you?"
Though Kenji was not quiet with his words, they were drowned out by the mob of hangry Demons.
later on in the day after most of their classes Ardere and Kenji had met up. Ardere was happy she didn't have to drag Kenji out of bed since she still didn't feel as if she was at one hundred percent.
Each class was quite simple as the first Hunt was the very next day.
After everyone had trained for weeks it was revealed that they would be out for three days while the hunt was going on. Each group would be tasked with hunting down a specific beast within the time limit. Though they knew most of the in and outs of how the hunt would be assessed the final details would not be revealed until they got to their magical beast class.
Once the two arrived in their class, they saw Sandra waiting, segregated from the rest of the conversations of their classmates. Her Magical Beast, the Vishup seated at her feet, its emerald green eyes vibrant and vigilant.
Sandra's toned curvy stature certainly showed in her uniform and her warm amber eyes stood out from her short black hair. Though the most captivating part about her was her polished horns that gracefully emerge from her head, curving backward and upward.
The two approached Sandra and began their own conversation amongst the bustling class
"Has Melodi arrived yet?" Kenji asked
Sandra shook her head
"She should be here any minute, she isn't the type to be late for anything."
Sure enough just as Ardere said these words; suddenly, the classroom doors open, and Melodi enters, a bright smile on her face.
"Hey, sorry for the delay. I got caught up in some last minute preparations." Melodi said cheerfully
"What matters is that you're here, go get ready." Kenji said as he nodded towards the females changing room.
Once Melodi returned Alice arrived in the classroom and stood before the assembled students behind a table, a stern expression on her face. She cleared her throat, commanding the attention of the class.
"Alright, everyone, settle down." Alice began, her voice firm and commanding .
"As you all know, the Hunt is tomorrow, and it's time to determine which beast each group will face."
She pulled out a small, ornate box and placed it on the table in front of her. The box seemed to emanate a faint arcane aura, piquing the curiosity of the students.
"In this box," Alice continued, "are cards, each representing a different beast that you might encounter in the wilderness. These cards have been enchanted to ensure a fair and random selection."
She gestured to the students, indicating their participation.
"Each group will send one representative forward to draw a card. This will determine the Beast your team will face during the Hunt."
As the students exchanged glances, a mix of anticipation and apprehension filled the room. They knew that the outcome of the draw would significantly impact their upcoming challenges.
Alice then moved on to address the safety precautions.
"Now, I understand that some of you may have concerns about your safety during this Hunt. Rest assured, we have implemented a safety net to ensure you are not left completely vulnerable."
She produced a small crystal pendant, shimmering with a protective enchantment.
"Each individual of every group will receive one of these enchanted pendants. Should you find yourselves in a dire situation with no immediate means of escape, activating the pendant will teleport you and your teammates back to the designated rendezvous point."
Alice's eyes scanned the room, making sure her message was clear.
"However, let me emphasize that the use of this safety tool should be an absolute last resort. It is there to protect you from immediate harm, but we expect you to face the challenges head-on and rely on your skills and teamwork."
She paused, allowing her words to sink in.
"Remember, this Hunt is not about defeating Beasts. It's about testing your abilities, pushing your limits, and growing stronger. We have faith in each and every one of you to rise to the occasion."
With that being said, each group began sending their representatives to line up in front of the box and choose their target.
almost all of the groups had sent a representative, yet Ardere, Kenji, Melodi and Sandra had yet to send someone.
Ardere thought for a moment, thinking that since Kenji had been training them this entire time he should be the representative and leader of the group but before she could voice her thoughts Kenji nudged Ardere forward and as she looked back on her group she realized the decision was unanimous as each one (Besides Kenji) had a smile on their face.
Each group had a different reaction to the beasts they were to face.
Some were boisterous and excited, while others were glum and anxious.
Finally it was Arderes turn to draw a card and as she reached into the box she grabbed hold of a card and slowly pulled it out and turned it over, anticipation brewing in her mind. Her expression shifted from anticipation to a mix of surprise and determination.
"You have the Direfang Wolves" Alice said
"You will be tasked with tracking and hunting down the pack, and eliminating the alpha along with the three adult females. There will also be several adolescent wolves so make sure your team does not get overrun."
As the final groups pulled their cards and received instructions about their tasks, the room became a cacophony of sound and conversations, and Arderes group was no exception to this.
As the group gathered around, Ardere took the lead, her gaze shifting from one member to another. The task at hand was to devise a game plan for the upcoming hunt against the Direfang Wolves, utilizing the strengths and abilities of each team member. Kenji, already stated he would not be providing any significant role, so Ardere hoped he would be more of an informant.
Ardere began, her voice firm.
"Alright, team, let's review our assets and strategize accordingly. Sandra, with your Vishup's Earth ability, you'll be our frontline defender. your resilience and agility will be crucial in drawing the attention of the Direfang wolves and keeping them at bay."
Sandra nodded, a determined expression on her face.
"Got it, Ardere. I'll make sure to hold their attention and protect the rest of the group."
Ardere continued, her gaze shifting to Melodi.
"Melodi, Luna's unique ability to slow and weaken our targets will be vital. We'll use Luna's hair strands to create openings and opportunities for the rest of the team to strike. Focus on disabling the wolves, allowing us to take them down with precision."
Melodi smiled nervously, her hands fidgeting with anticipation.
"I'll do my best, Ardere. Luna and I won't let you down."
Kenji, knowing he would not be fighting with them spoke up.
"Though I won't be attacking with any of you, I will provide support. I'll keep a close eye on the wolves, track their movements, and relay any crucial information to you all."
Ardere nodded, acknowledging Kenji's contribution.
"Thank you."
"You've all earned that much from me." Kenji said.
With a shared determination, the group finalized their plan, each understanding their role within the team. They knew that teamwork and coordination would be their greatest strength in overcoming the challenge that awaited them.
The class had ended and Kenji made it clear that they would be taking it easy for the day, so they all decided to walk around outside for a bit.
That was until Melodi asked them to wait up and disappeared, shortly after she returned.
As the group gathered outside the class, Melodi eagerly came walking up to the three with a bag, filled with something.
"Alright, everyone, I have something special for each of you," Melodi said with a cheerful grin. I wanted to make sure we're comfortable during our three-day hunt, so my parents made these for us."
She first turned to Ardere and reached inside the bag pulling out a sleek, lightweight cloak. "Ardere, this is a magical cloak. it's enchanted to provide warmth in colder climates and protection from the elements. it will help you stay comfortable and focused during the hunt."
Next, she presented Sandra with a pair of sturdy, yet flexible boots. "Sandra, these are enchanted boots. They have a special traction spell allowing you to move swiftly and silently through various terrains. They'll provide you with stability and agility during our expedition."
Finally, she turned to Kenji and handed him a pair of supple, fingerless gloves. "Kenji, these are magical gloves. They enhance your grip and dexterity, making it easier for you to grip onto ledges and perform intricate tasks. They are also embedded with a waterproofing enchantment, keeping your hands dry and protected from moisture."
The team looked at their gifts in awe and gratitude, appreciating Melodi's thoughtfulness and the care put into each item. They thanked her, expressing their excitement to utilize them during the hunt.
Melodi beamed with joy as she saw her teammates' reactions. "I'm so glad you like them!"
"Do you have anything for yourself Melodi?" Kenji had asked.
Melodi pulled out a vibrant, patterned sleeping bag and showed it to the group.
"This sleeping bag will regulate temperature and provide extra comfort compared to any equipment the school will provide."
"Is this why you were running a bit late before class?" Ardere asked
Melodi scratched the back of her head
"Yeah, I was picking up the delivery from the common room, it took some time to come in and I was worried it wouldn't arrive before we left so I'm glad they arrived on time."
Satisfied the group left the halls and began walking around.
The group gathered in a nearby courtyard, finding a shaded spot under a large tree. Ardere, Melodi and Sandra sat, while Kenji leaned against the tree.
"So, what do we do now?" Ardere asked not sure what to do in this situation.
"We have only been together when in class or training, so it does feel a bit dull." Sandra added.
"Oh, how about we come up with a team name!!" Melodi said, cheerful as ever.
"That doesn't sound like a bad idea, there will be many hunts to come so it could be smart to solidify ourselves as a team." Ardere said.
"What about Harmony seekers!!" Melody blurted out.
"We are anything but the picture of harmony." Kenji said making Melodi awkwardly laugh.
"We could be the Blazing guardians?" Ardere said with uncertainty in her voice.
"When have we guarded anything?" Kenji said
"You don't have to be such a critic." Ardere argued.
"I'm just being honest, if we choose a name it has to have some real meaning to it, and more importantly it has to be true."
"How about Nature's fury?" Sandra said a bit unconfident in the name.
"That's better, nature is quite relentless and often finds ways to destroy anything in its path, but we aren't some calamity so I don't think it fits too well."
"Then how about you give us some ideas, you are a member of this group." Ardere commented
Kenji went silent for a moment, thinking and contemplating.
"Earthbound warriors."
"That's the name you came up with?" Ardere critiqued.
"I like to see things how they are and I would like for the rest of you to do the same. So being earthbound is a good quality to have, however we aren't exactly a band of warriors, we aren't even really the dream team, more like the nightmare squad."
Melodi chuckled at Kenji's remark
"How exactly are we the nightmare squad" Melodi said attempting to stifle her laughter.
"Ardere is a noble who is looked down on by other nobles, Sandra has a giant fucking cat that could rip your throat out in a heartbeat, I beat the ever loving shit out of a guy to make an example of him and you for some odd reason are fine with all of this."
At this point Melodis' laughter couldn't be contained any more as she fell on her back holding her stomach.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." She said almost crying.
"I actually quite like the name Earthbound warriors." Sandra commented.
"I...I like it too" Melodi said through her laughs.
"I don't mind it, but we can't be all that bad, right?" Ardere said
Kenji chuckled a bit.
"You see the great thing about it is we really don't have to give a fuck."
And so with unanimous agreement, the team christened themselves "Earthbound Warriors," ready to embark on their hunt.
