Kenji and Ardere had arrived in the classroom and all eyes were on the two as they opened the doors.
The classroom was larger than any normal classroom. The room looked like it could fit a hundred people but only contained around thirty students with two students to a desk, with each desk being big enough for each student to be out of arms length of one another.
Each desk was on a certain level with the ones in the back of the classroom being the highest and the ones in the front being the lowest and on the same level with the teachers desk and podium.
The two began walking to an empty desk at the front of the class and Ardere sat down putting her bag on the side of the desk.
Kenji stood their for a moment looking at Ardere as she began grabbing the items necessary for class until she noticed he was just standing there.
"What are you doing, aren't you gonna sit down?" Ardere asked
"Yeah, i don't do the front of the class c'mon lets go to the back."
"Are you kidding? The front is the best place to be, you can see the board clearly and you can hear the teacher better."
Kenji raised an eyebrow at Ardere before walking up the stairs passing desk after desk of Demons who watched him carefully and cautiously as he passed until he reached an empty desk at the back and sat down before putting his arms in a cross and laying his head down.
Ardere was horrified at what she saw.
"How could someone so lazy and completely deprived of Mana be my perfect partner?" Ardere thought as the doors opened once more and a tall slender Demon with brown hair and glasses walked into the class with books in his hands and a long thin black tail walked up to the podium.
The man scanned the room and his eyes settled on Kenji in the back of the class. The man pushed his glasses up on the bridge of his nose and slammed his books on his podium as Kenji slowly looked up from the desk to see the man staring at him.
"My name is Nel Howser I don't believe we have met, but i was informed of your arrival. why don't you stand and introduce yourself to the rest your peers as they will be with you for the remainder of your time here." Nel had said while glaring at Kenji.
Kenji yawned and stood up from his seat and introduced himself.
"Sup, my name is Kenji, don't piss me off and i won't hurt you."
Kenji said as he looked at everyone in the room and Ardere covered her face as she sank into her seat.
"Why did Albeon have to stick me with these commoners." Nel whispered underneath his breath.
Though Kenji had no problems with his introduction Nel was a different story. Nel was a noble and a proud one at that, he believed them to be superior in every way and he had heard of what Kenji had done to a noble so he intended to make his experience in his class a nightmare.
"There's no way a commoner like him ever received any schooling. He wont last a week in my class." Nel thought as Kenji began to sit down.
"Well why don't we get you up to speed then Kenji." Nel said as he grabbed a book from his podium and walked up the steps and opened the book to a specific page and gave it to Kenji.
"If you will, read this chapter to the class."
Nel stood there while Keji took a glance at the book and then looked back to Nel.
"I can't read this shit." Kenji said as he handed the book back to Nel.
Nel chuckled as he walked back to his podium.
"Of course, it was my mistake to assume someone such as yourself could read."
The rest of the class chuckled as Nel made that remark and Ardere sunk into her seat a bit more.
"Well then, do you know how to count? what comes after four?" Nel said in a mocking tone as the rest of the class laughed a bit louder this time.
"Keep talking shit and i'll break seven of your fingers so you can only count to three."
When Kenji said this everyone could feel the promise in his words as he spoke them; even Nel.
Nel was not pleased, Kenji had spoken back to him in his own classroom and Nel could feel the heat in his face as he spoke.
"Your lucky to be in this class commoner. If i had it my way you would be out in the gutters with the other lower class where you belong."
"And if i have it my way they won't find your body." Kenji said with a calm voice, but when everyone looked at him his eyes were cold and piercing as he meant what he said.
When Nel looked into Kenjis eyes a shiver ran down his spine, but he shook it off as his pride overpowered his fear.
"I will not have you threaten me in my own class, we are having a quiz tomorrow and if you fail i will personally make sure that not only you, but your master gets expelled from this academy as well. I expect you to catch yourself up on what will be on the test."
Nel felt that he had delt a big blow to Kenji, but he seemed unaffected so Nel went a little further to try and embarrass him. So Nel opened one of his books to the far end and ran his finger across the page until he settled on a single line and began writing on the board.
"Since you have such a big mouth maybe you can tell the class how to solve this." Nel said as he finished writing on the board and held a piece of chalk out for Kenji.
Kenji looked at the board for several seconds before leaning his head on his hand.
"Are you serious?"
Nel gave a simple nod and Kenji groaned as he got up and walked to the front of the class.
Ardere was confused about what Nel had written on the board as she had yet to see anything like it yet and Nel wanted Kenji to solve it, what Nel had wrote down wasn't something they would learn until their third year.
Kenji approached Nel and grabbed the chalk from his hands as he began to write on the board.
At first Kenji had just written down two numbers before adding them together when he added them together he then wrote a different number down as the answer on the board.
Nel was shocked at what he had seen, he had given Kenji one of the hardest problems he could give to his class and he solved it in under a minute. Nel double checked his book and the numbers checked out.
"Can i go sit down now?"
"How?...How did you do that?" Nel said
"Geometry is my bread and butter you cant pull a Pythagorean theorem out of your ass and think its the pinnacle of math, this is like childs play compared to some of the equations i would see on my sisters homework." Kenji said as he put the chalk down and walked back up to his seat and put his head down once more.
Nel saw this and scoffed as he spoke again.
"Is my class a bore to you child. If so you're free to leave and never come back."
Kenji lifted his head once more and made eye contact with Nel as he spoke.
"Oh i would much rather be sleeping right now or reading a book, but instead i'm here doing math in a magic academy while some skinny little bitch insults me and acts like a stuck up cunt."
"You can't do anything to me as long as I get the grades necessary to pass and behave myself. since your much farther behind me in terms of mathematic then i think my current behavior is appropriate and if you don't like it, you're free to leave and never come back."
Nel had never had someone speak to him like that before, let alone a commoner.
"You and Ms.Daemonium can leave my class now and don't come back. You will still receive my tests and work. If your grades begin to drop you will be expelled from this academy."
Kenji smiled and got up as he began to descend down the steps until he eventually reached Ardere.
"You coming?"
Ardere looked to Kenji and then to Nel and when their eyes met he he pointed to the door and Arderes heart sank into her stomach.
Ardere had gotten the message and began to pack her stuff frustrated.
The two left the classroom and when they began walking down the hall Ardere pushed Kenji into the wall and her heart began to beat fast.
"What the Hell do you think your doing!" Ardere screamed at kenji
"Hey don't push me. That guy was a jackass you cant tell me he wasn't."
"That GUY, was one of the best mathematicians in the entire region! When are you gonna understand that your actions have consequences, not only for you, but for me too. I can't get kicked out of this school i worked too hard for this." Arderes voice began to crack as tears flooded her eyes and her ears burned red.
"I can't Kenji, I just can't." Ardere sniffled as she dropped to her knees and covered her face, sobbing into her hands.
One of the doors to the classroom opened a bit and a man peaked through the door giving Kenji a stern look before looking down to Ardere who hadn't seen the man because she was still covering her face as tears seeped from her fingers and fell to the floor and onto her uniform.
Kenji sighed and rolled his eyes, he grabbed Arderes bag and opened one of the doors that he recognized to be empty and brought her inside.
Ardere had cried for a bit longer before finally stopping and all that could be heard was a sniffle every now and then until finally Ardere said something.
"I can't get kicked out of Inferis Kenji. I just can't." Ardere said looking down as she cradled her legs.
Kenji sat on an old dusty desk on the other side of the room looking out a window as he spoke.
"He said we just have to pass the tests to stay in the school, we don't have to attend class."
"Kenji we still need to learn the content, otherwise how are we supposed to pass."
"This world is at a very basic level in terms of math. You all rely on magic for your everyday items. From lights to plumbing everything is powered by mana."
"I come from a place where we had to pump millions of gallons of water to deserts and power millions of homes and businesses with electricity. Your world doesn't have this problem we have to use math and science for everything we do and we advanced to a point where we can fly above the clouds and reach speeds faster than sound."
"I can teach you what I know, but that could only be temporary since i was still in school myself, but i should be able to get you through this year at least."
Kenji turned around and Ardere was looking at him, her eyes puffy and glossy and her nose was red.
"It's not just this class. Everything you do will have an affect on me, they will expect me to control you and when i can't, i will be punished for your actions." Ardere said trying not to choke on her words.
"Kenji I realize you don't want me to drag you into my problems so please don't create any for me, that's all i ask."
Kenji stood silent for a moment staring blankly at Ardere until a slight soft smile appeared.
"You're better off out of that class. That guy would have bullied you just because we were associated with one another, trust me i know the type."
Kenji stood up from from the desk and walked to Ardere reaching out his hand.
"I got nothing left to lose in my life Ardere. I have no humility, so i cant sit idly by and watch as someone tries to belittle me, but your different. You have so much more to lose so you take it all full force and slowly you start to choke on everything as it all becomes too much."
Ardere grabbed Kenjis hand and he lifted her off the ground.
"Why are you so desperate to stay at this school? I've never seen anyone act the way you did when they were threatened with expulsion."
Ardere was silent for a moment. She hadn't told anyone the real reason why she had chosen this school it was something she kept close to her and she wasn't sure if she wanted to tell Kenji.
"I have my reasons, isn't that enough."
"I guess it will be for now." Kenji said
"I'm sorry for getting you in trouble, I will try to behave myself for your sake."
Ardere tried not to show it, but she was shocked and more than that she was happy. If Kenji could control his behavior at least towards the staff then things can work out between the two.
"Would you really do that?" She said almost in disbelief.
"I owe you at least that much." Kenji said.
At that point the bells could be heard and the two went off on their way to their next class.
Through out the day true to his word Kenji sat with Ardere at the front of the class and kept his head up through History and magical studies as well.
When Kenji and Ardere stepped foot in each class they were the center of attention, even the teacher would watch Kenji with caution as they continued on with their classes.
Finally when magical studies was over the two went on to lunch and met up with Melodi and her and Ardere spoke about how classes were going before the three had to leave again.
By the end of their magic circle translation class Ardere had felt like Kenji was gonna have more trouble in classes then she thought. He had not taken any notes and when the teacher would ask questions he didn't raise his hand to answer.
Kenji didn't know anything and that was a problem if he was going to pass their classes.
Ardere thought to their first class and remembered that Kenji had said he couldn't read and yet she clearly remembers him taking notes and reading the books from the library before they fought Ian.
Ardere looked to Kenji as they both walked to their final class.
"I guess I will have to tutor him as well." She thought as she let out a sigh.
The two walked on as they walked to their last class. The Magic Beasts secondary class.
Ardere and Kenji were standing on an even playing field for this class as they both had not been since Kenji was in the infirmary and he also didn't fit into any normal Category of Magic Beasts.
The class they arrived at was large and unlike their previous classes this one had no desks. their were several students in their battle uniforms and more were coming out of a back two back rooms wearing the same thing with their summons following close behind.
Ardere looked around and saw a familiar short haired blonde girl with a white summon on her shoulders.
Melodi had recognized Ardere and Kenji as a smiled formed and she made her way to the two.
"Hey are you gonna be in my summons class." Melodi asked in a cheery tone
Ardere giggled softly and nodded.
"I guess we are, what a coincidence, who knew Kenji would be in the same category of Summon as Luna." Ardere said as she went up to the Vanis and scratched the underside of his chin
Kenji had his hands in his pocket as he looked Melodi up and down. The battle uniform she wore was tight on her just like how it was with Ardere and him.
Ardere and Melodi saw this and Ardere went wide eyed as Melodis ears burned red and she moved her arms as if to cover her self.
"Ummm....Please don't stare." Meldoi said embarrassed.
Kenji raised an eyebrow and turned to look around the room.
"Where is the teacher?" Kenji asked.
"Oh she stepped out for a moment while we all went to get into uniform." Melodi said avoiding eye contact with Kenji.
All of a sudden Melodis eyes focused on something behind them.
"Oh there she is right there." Melodi said as she pointed behind them.
Ardere and Kenji turned around and they could see Alice Black glaring at the two of them as she walked towards them.
Arderes heart had sank she knew her and Kenji would have trouble getting along even with Kenji behaving.
Ardere turned to Kenji and all he had done was continue to look at Alice as he said a single word.
"Fuck."
