Grandpa Li took out a box of red ink. "Remember when I tried to teach you how to write your name? I am sure you must have forgotten by now. It's all right. Just put your thumbprint here on the document."
Grandma Li felt bitter upon seeing the red ink. It seemed like she was putting up a hopeless fight.
Aunt Li looked away. She could not bear to see her mother so sorrowful, but she knew that Grandpa Li had been pushed to his limit.
Grandma Li had been very overbearing all these years. She continued to make things difficult for everyone all those years during his absence. His patience had run out.
"If I had learned to read and write like you wanted me to in the past, would you still want to divorce me now?"
"I don't know, but I'm sure if you had tried to study back then, your eyes would have opened up to another world. You could be leading a different life now."
At this point, nobody sympathized with Grandma Li.
