Chapter 43 - Unfavored

"It's due to makeup," Chu Yue said. "Hurry up and eat. If you don't, the food is going to get cold."

The monk forced himself to eat. Chu Yue then looked at Eunuch Feng and said, "Why are you still here? Go. Don't bother the master when he's eating."

Eunuch Feng cast his master a glance. When he saw that he did not reject, he quickly got up and went away.

Once outside, he asked Yingda, "I just heard the widow saying that she had the audacity to hit our master. She even kicked him. Is this real?"

"I did see her kick our master once. I don't know about anything else."

"How dare she?!" Eunuch Feng was shocked.

"She doesn't know about our master's identity," Yingda said.

"Even if she doesn't know, our master is her partner. Is there a woman who would dare to kick her partner?" Eunuch Feng asked.

Yingda did not retort. "Don't bother about it. The master is not angry."

He had seen it with his own eyes. The widow had staggered after she kicked his master, but the master just patted his sleeves as if nothing had happened.

Eunuch Feng was puzzled. "Tell me, just what about her does the master like?"

The widow was undoubtedly beautiful, and she got more pleasant to the eye the more he looked at her, so even the most beautiful worthy consorts in the palace would lose to her.

But his master was a great man. He had always been indifferent when it came to the matters between men and women. He had never been attracted to beauty.

So why was it completely useless when it came to the widow?

Was the widow really the incarnation of a thousand-year-old fox who had turned into a fox spirit?

He did not know whether she was a monster who had turned into a spirit, but yesterday, when he came over, the master was not in a good mood. Now, after he finished eating, he was dragged off by the widow to the plum blossom grove in the garden in the west.

With how he was currently acting, it was clear that all the anger from before was gone.

Eunuch Feng was absolutely impressed.

*****

It might already be March, but the day before, it had still snowed. If the weather turned cold, it would still chill someone to the bone.

Chu Yue and the monk stayed for most of the day in the plum blossom grove, and since they were there, she would definitely take advantage of him.

The monk could do nothing about her because of how she continued pestering him. He could only crouch down and carry her while they walked through the plum blossom grove.

"Master, the days I spent with you have been the happiest and most relaxed days in my life," Chu Yue said gently.

The monk said nothing.

With him pampering her, she could live a smooth life, and no one would be stupid enough to dare to provoke her.

Hence, she would definitely have a long life to live.

"Master, if you don't want me in the future, with how I am, how wilful I am, and how unreasonable I am, I might not be able to live long," Chu Yue said and sighed softly.

The monk let out a light huff. 'You know that you're wilful and unreasonable? Forget about how you kicked my back, I'm now carrying you. I've never seen someone as bold as you.'

"Master, why aren't you saying anything?" Chu Yue did not obtain any reaction when she pretended to be pitiful, and she felt rather displeased.

"Okay," the monk replied.

"What does that 'okay' mean? Can't you just say something to comfort me? Do you know what sort of life I lived in the past? Did you know how sad I was?" Chu Yue said.

"What sort of life did you live?" The monk clearly did not quite believe her.

She might have lived a rather bad life when she was in her husband's family, but when she was in her family, she should not have lived a bad life; otherwise, she would not have come to possess this personality.

"Oh, forget it. I won't say it. You definitely think that my family has spoilt me rotten with how I am. You wouldn't know what I've experienced. I've actually gone through a disaster that resulted in me being reborn.

"Ever since that drastic change, I decided that even if the whole world casts me aside, I will make sure that I live a good life. I will not let those who want to see me make a fool of myself succeed," Chu Yue said.

"Does that involve me?" the monk asked.

"Would you dare to cast me aside? Listen well. I am the only one who can cast you aside, understand?" Chu Yue grabbed his ears and tugged at them.

The monk's first reaction was to check whether there was anyone in the area. There was none. Good, he did not end up embarrassing himself.

"Widow, how can you always act like this? Don't you know that I am already your husband? Is there anyone who would treat her own husband like this?" the monk asked.

She always attacked him the moment she was displeased with something.

"How could you be considered to be my husband? Did you send an invitation to others to announce our marriage? Did we go through the marriage ceremony?" Chu Yue scoffed.

"Oh? Am I still not considered your husband?" The monk put her down and turned around to look at her.

Chu Yue cocked an eyebrow. "What do you think?"

The monk put his forehead against hers and looked at her before he asked, "Am I not your husband?"

"You're not my husband. You didn't go through all the traditional marriage rites. Even though you have basically taken advantage of me in every way possible, but you are at most…" Chu Yue gave him a mocking look.

"At most what?" the monk asked her.

"Think about it on your own," Chu Yue said.

The monk's expression turned dark, and Chu Yue tapped his face. "Why are you pulling a long face? We have never been legitimate. What are you thinking about?"

"Don't say something so unpleasant," the monk said.

"It's unpleasant, but it's the truth." Chu Yue shrugged.

"Once I stop being a monk—"

Before the monk could finish speaking, Chu Yue waved her hand. "We'll talk once you become worldly again."

Once the monk became worldly, she might not even be around anymore.

Secondary Consort Li might come to a realization soon. At that time, she would be the first to come over to make sure that Chu Yue did not lose her position, and she would be forced to forever remain as Prince Qin's imperial consort.

After all, an unfavored imperial consort who was disliked by her family posed no threat. Even if Chu Yue's mother's family held some power, they were far away and could do nothing.

But if Chu Yue left, a new imperial consort would come in, and Secondary Consort Li would have to face someone unknown.

However, as long as Chu Yue did not leave, no other woman would ever come into the mansion to suppress the secondary consort.

Chu Yue did not think that Secondary Consort Li was a fool. It was about time that she realized that. Even if she did not register what was going on, her family and the people by her side would understand what was going on.

The monk saw that there was a worried look in her eyes. "Is something wrong?"

"Yes. I must definitely wait until you sleep tonight before I go to bed," Chu Yue said.

The monk smiled slightly. Did the woman really desire him so much?
