A/N: Apologies for the late updates. I will post 2 chapters today
--------------------------
Shedinja had used 'Switch' to create a substitute near Poliwrath and then used 'Shadow ball' during the blast. It was a very well-coordinated strategy. The first 'Shadow ball' canceled out 'Hydro pump,' but the second couldn't be defended.
"Marcus, now use 'Night slash'," said Axel.
'Night slash' was a physical move, and Shedinja needed to be near Poliwrath. For some unknown reason, this Poliwrath seemed to have very low physical defense, which was why Axel told Shedinja to use 'Night slash'.
Shedinja rushed near Poliwrath with extreme speed. Its body was now covered with dark energy, ready to use 'Night slash'.
"Poliwrath, use 'Bubble punch'," said Kent.
Poliwrath was so fast that Shedinja couldn't comprehend. Before Shedinja could execute the move, Poliwrath had already hit it with 'Bubble punch,' and then poof...
Shedinja disappeared with a cloud of smoke. In a matter of seconds, another Shedinja appeared and started to attack Poliwrath.
Kent now had a headache. How could that Shedinja be a substitute? It didn't make any sense for a substitute to use an attack move.
However, Kent was wrong. Shedinja had actually used 'Switch' when it was about to get hit.
The battle went on for 5 minutes, and by that time, Poliwrath was huffing and puffing with multiple injuries on its body. Meanwhile, Shedinja was just floating in the air, its eyes and demeanor calm, as if it was relaxing on a beach.
Poliwrath's speed was due to two reasons: 'Water aura' and its hidden ability, 'Swift swim'. Axel didn't know the function of 'Water aura,' but he could tell that it boosted Poliwrath's stats, especially its speed. 'Swift swim' increased the speed of the Pokemon during rain, which explained Poliwrath's incredible speed. However, despite its speed advantage, Poliwrath was still losing the battle.
Everyone was shocked by the battle. Poliwrath was undoubtedly a strong Pokemon, but none of its attacks managed to hit Shedinja.
"Marcus, use 'Hyper beam' and finish the battle," said Axel.
Shedinja started to charge the beam, and after the charging was complete, it threw it towards Poliwrath. Poliwrath was in no condition to dodge the attack.
"Poliwrath, use 'Bubble punch' and deflect it."
Both of its fists were now covered in water bubbles, and it started to punch the beam at a fast pace. 'Hyper beam' was not a simple attack, even though Shedinja hadn't trained it much; it was still a powerful move. Poliwrath was moving back while punching the beam.
POLI.. POLI… POLIWRATH
Finally, it punched harder with its right fist, and like a miracle, the beam was deflected to the left side. However, Poliwrath couldn't celebrate the victory for long. Just as it deflected the beam, it was hit by a powerful 'Shadow ball'. The power of the 'Shadow ball' was more than before, and it crashed to the ground, fainted.
"Poliwrath is unable to battle. Shedinja wins. Gym leader Kent is requested to send out his next Pokemon," said Karen after examining Poliwrath.
The crowd started to shout 'Shedinja' and 'Axel.' They had never seen such a powerful Shedinja in their lifetime. It was a surreal experience. Shedinja could have allowed all those attacks to hit it, and it would have been fine, but Axel didn't want Kent to know that. He wanted to surprise Kent in the next battle.
"That is an interesting Pokemon. I guess I have to be serious now. Come out Gyarados."
A big serpentine Pokemon entered the battlefield with a roar, announcing its presence. Axel looked at its stats:
Pokémon's Name: Gyarados (Age: 10 yrs)
Pokémon's Nickname: N/A
Pokémon Rank: Pseudo-King
Ability: Intimidate (100%)
Hidden Ability: Moxie (100%)
Potential: Brown (Monstrous)
Health: 3500/3500 Attack: A++
Agility: A++ Defense: B+
Sp. Attk: S Sp. Def: A
Moves:
Active move: Hyper beam, Thrash, Rain dance, Hydro pump, Waterfall, Dragon dance, Chilling water, Avalanche, Icy wind, Sandstorm, Water manipulation, Surf, Flamethrower, Aqua tail
Passive move: Endure
Core: Water (Mastered)
It was the same Gyarados that he had battled before. Axel looked at its stats again and realized that they had improved a bit. Its special attack had increased to S rank, which was huge. Axel knew the difference between A rank and S rank personally. It looked like Kent had also been training it hard.
"Marcus, come back," said Axel, recalling Shedinja. He had to call out Shedinja since Gyarados knew 'Flamethrower,' which was super effective against it. As much as he could guess, Kent would use Blastoise as his third Pokemon, and he would use Shedinja again.
"Let's go, Light."
After thinking about it for some time, he chose Light. Light had electrical moves and 'Elemental Manipulation.' It was also very fast. He knew that Light might not be able to defeat Gyarados, but he wanted it to weaken it as much as possible.
###
"A surprise turn of events. Axel had called out Shedinja and sent out Alakazam. Why did he do that?" talked Amrita in the commentator box.
The general population was also surprised by this. Shedinja was doing very well for itself, so why would he change it instantly? Was this another strategy of Axel? They had seen how powerful Alakazam was before, but it was still not able to defeat Gyarados. So, they didn't know what he was planning. This had made the battle even more interesting.
###
"Are you both ready for battle?" asked Karen. Both of them nodded their heads in confirmation.
"Let the battle begin!!!"
"Gyarados, start with 'Waterfall'," shouted Kent.
"Light, 'Teleport' and 'Calm mind.'"
'Waterfall' was a powerful charging attack, but Alakazam easily dodged it with 'Teleport.' It also used 'Calm mind' once before Gyarados turned around.
"Gyarados, use 'Rain dance'."
Gyarados started to dance in a weird way, increasing the intensity of the rain caused by Poliwrath's move. Axel could see that Kent was using the same strategy as before, but he had a plan.
"Light, use 'Calm mind' again."
The crowd was surprised.
Why hadn't Alakazam attacked? If the power of the rain was left to increase, it would be just like last time.
By the time Gyarados used 'Rain dance,' Light had already used 'Calm mind' three more times and set up three thunder spears.
"Gyarados, now use 'Sandstorm'," said Kent with a smile.
"Don't waste any time and use the move right now," shouted Axel.
Gyarados tried to dodge the attack, but it was still hit by one of the thunder spears. Axel told Alakazam to use the move again, and this time two of them hit Gyarados. By that time, Gyarados had already used 'Sandstorm,' 'Chilling water,' and was now ready to use 'Icy wind' to finish the battle.
The combined moves were very powerful, but it had one big disadvantage. It took a lot of preparation time. Normally any trainer would like to finish the battle as fast as they could to avoid the attack, but Axel was not doing so.
He told Alakazam to use 'Calm mind,' which wasted a lot of time. Granted that the move would increase its special attack, but from the audience's perspective, Axel was just wasting precious time.
When Gyarados used 'Icy wind,' Axel's eyes lit up. This was the time when it would be most vulnerable since combining all those moves took a lot of time.
"Light, now use 'Enhance,' 'Thunder,' and use thunder spears," said Axel.
A purple light glowed all over Alakazam's body, making it look very strong. Six semi-solid thunder spears emerged, and the sky started to rumble. The blue thunder from the sky hit the yellow thunder spears, making them glow with power, and they struck Gyarados.
BOOOMMMMMMMM
The explosion was massive. Alakazam had put almost all of its power and energy into the attack. The whole battle stadium rumbled from the impact. The crowd was protected by an invisible shield, but Axel and Kent were not. They had to use their aura to resist the impact.
The dust and debris settled, and people could finally see what had happened. One would expect Gyarados to fall down, but...
ROARRRRRRRR
It cried in pain and anger. Its whole body was riddled with pain. Kent didn't even have to say anything. Gyarados used 'Avalanche'.
All the water from the rain and sand from the 'Sandstorm' had frozen around them. The frozen water and sand moved towards Alakazam, which had no way to block the attack. The power of the attack was huge. It looked like the whole stadium was assisting Gyarados to defeat Alakazam.
Unlike before, there were no bodies of water on either side of the stadium. The viewers had complained before saying that the body of water had given the gym leader a competitive advantage so they had to take it down.
Immediately, Alakazam was frozen like a sculpture.
