Chapter 349 - Butterfree

It was 6 am, and the team was ready to go out.

"All of you know the drill, but I will repeat it again. You are to explore this unknown island and capture anything that interests you. You have a scientist on your team. I want you to care about your life more than this mission, so I want you to come home. Each of you has 2 distress signals, and you can use them in times of emergencies. Each team also has a Pokémon that can use 'Teleport.' I want all of you to be safe. Now get ready, you are departing in 2 minutes," said Andrew.

He gave a long speech. It was always thrilling to start these types of adventures, but there were risks too.

Axel's team consisted of 5 members:

They had a diverse type of Pokémon for almost every situation. Rome was also a good leader. Axel felt that they were experienced and not as clueless as Lance and Lorelai.

The electronics scanned the map of the island through the satellite. They were told to reach the center of the island where there was a big volcanic mountain. Something about that place was mysterious.

The first 2 days were normal. They fought some fire-type Pokémon, as there were only fire-type Pokémon on the island. They didn't find anything interesting. Most of the Pokémon they encountered were in elemental rank.

It had been speculated that powerful fire-type Pokémon lived on this volcanic island. They also found numerous small caves unfit for them to enter. The team realized that all the Pokémon they had encountered so far were fire-type, and they had high fire resistance. Other than that, there was nothing new.

However, they were curious to prove themselves and discover the secret of the island. And behold, on the 3rd day, they made a discovery.

###

It was a Butterfree.

This was a new find. Butterfree was not a fire-type Pokémon; it was a bug type that was weak against fire. So how was it surviving on the island?

Rome had told Axel not to use Beedrill, and Axel realized he was right. The temperature was too high for a bug-type Pokémon to showcase its full power. Yet, this Butterfree looked unaffected.

Axel looked at its stats:

----

Pokemon's name: Butterfree (Age - 40 Years)

Pokemon Nickname: None

Pokemon rank: Pseudo-king

Ability: Compound eyes (mastered)

Hidden ability: Tinted lens (100%)

Potential: Purple

Health: 2500/2500 Attack: C+

Agility: B+ Defense: B

Sp. Atk: A Sp. Def: C++

Moves: Sunny Day, Solar Beam, Psychic, String Shot, Sleep Powder, Aerial Ace, Quiver Dance, Bug Buzz, Confusion, Bug Life, String Pierce, Fire Conversion

Bug core: Mastered

----

Now that was a strong Pokémon. With 3 new moves, purple potential, impressive stats, and excellent mastery over its ability and hidden ability, Butterfree looked menacing.

It was also much bigger than a normal Butterfree. A regular Butterfree was around 3-4 feet tall, but this Butterfree stood at around 7 feet.

What interested Axel the most was its ability, 'Compound Eyes.' It was mentioned as 'mastered,' while its hidden ability was '100%.' This was confusing. What was the difference between the two?

Another striking thing was one of its new moves, 'Fire Conversion.' Axel didn't know what it did, but the name of the move indicated that it had adapted to this environment.

"Axel, do you want to capture this one?" asked Rome.

They had encountered some pseudo-king rank Pokémon on the way, but none were as strong as this one. Rome wanted to see the true battle powers of Axel and his Pokémon.

"Let's do it, Light, Marcus," shouted Axel. Both of them were already outside. They took their battle positions and got ready.

Shedinja was also a bug-type Pokémon, but it had a ghost-type core, making it suitable for this trip. Although it could get burned from the high heat, Shedinja insisted on joining Axel on this trip.

The group was primarily confused about Axel using Shedinja. It was considered one of the weakest Pokémon in existence. So why was Axel, an aspiring Pokémon trainer, training one?

When they were ready for battle, Shedinja disappeared using 'Shadow Jump.'

First of all, Alakazam used 'Calm Mind.' While training for 'Elemental Manipulation' and 'Greater Telekinesis,' it preferred to use 'Calm Mind' to boost its Sp. Attack and leveled it up to 40.

Alakazam could now use 'Calm Mind' 4 times, and now that it was leveled up to 40, it could use this move very quickly during the battle. It could be used during an ongoing battle.

It used 'Calm Mind' once and teleported to the right side of Butterfree. Five large shadow tentacles emerged from the ground, binding Butterfree, and Alakazam used 'Flamethrower' at point-blank range.
