Nidorino was now preparing to battle against Magneton. If Magneton wasn't too injured, he had considered using Shedinja as a precaution. However, since Magneton was on its last legs, he was confident that Nidorino could finish the job.
Nidorino appeared and let out a loud roar, showing its excitement for the battle.
"Are both the gym leader and the challenger ready for battle?" asked the referee.
Both nodded their heads.
"Let the battle begin!"
"Nidorino, use 'Sludge Wave'," commanded Axel.
This had become Nidorino's signature move.
"Magneton, use 'Light Screen' and then 'Magnet Healing'," shouted Morgan.
'Light Screen' would provide some defense against special attacks, and while using it, Magneton could also use 'Magnet Healing'. 'Electromagnetic Terrain' and 'Magnet Healing' had been in effect for some time, allowing Magneton to utilize its magnetic properties to heal itself.
Although 'Light Screen' provided some defense, the sludge wave hit Magneton, poisoning it.
Nidorino then planned to use 'Poison Spread' and 'Poison Damage Transfer' to finish the match. However, Magneton had already used 'Magnet Healing'.
"Now use 'Explosion'," said Morgan with a smirk.
"Nidorino, run fast!" shouted Axel, but it was too late...
BOOMMMMMMM!
The blast covered the entire battle arena, including Nidorino. With the debris, dust, and smoke obscuring the area, nobody knew what had happened.
After some time, the dust settled, revealing that Magneton had fainted and Nidorino had sustained multiple serious injuries.
'Explosion' was a powerful move, and its power increased when the user had more HP. Morgan knew that Magneton wouldn't be able to defeat Nidorino. Despite gaining some health points through 'Magnet Healing', Magneton's stamina was depleted from battling Gogoat.
As Axel's starter Pokemon, Nidorino was undoubtedly formidable. Morgan was aware of its unique attack that it had used against Giovanni—the 'Spinning Poison' attack. Thus, he knew Magneton would lose the battle and instructed it to use 'Explosion'. Although 'Explosion' was a self-destructive move, causing the user to faint, it would also injure Nidorino.
Now only two of Axel's Pokemon remained, one of which was already injured, while Morgan still had one fully healed Pokemon. This outcome was better than he had expected.
"The gym leader is requested to send out his last Pokemon," announced the referee.
"Electabuzz!" shouted Morgan as he threw a master ball.
'Electa…' roared Electabuzz.
Morgan looked at its stats:

---
Although not as powerful as Magneton, Electabuzz was no weak opponent either. If Nidorino were at full health, it could have defeated Electabuzz easily. However, with Nidorino's injuries, the battle would be challenging.
"Are you both ready to battle?" asked Ronny, the referee.
Both trainers nodded.
"Let the battle begin!"
"Start with 'Volt Speed' and 'Thunder Punch'," commanded Morgan.
"Use 'Sludge Wave'," Axel instructed Nidorino.
Nidorino had already used 'Sludge Wave' once, so using it again increased its power.
Electabuzz's new move was dangerous. Electric energy enveloped its entire body as it moved with incredible speed, almost invisible to the naked eye. It managed to dodge the 'Sludge Wave', a feat unheard of for a Pokemon like Electabuzz. It swiftly approached Nidorino and landed a 'Thunder Punch' on its face.
Nidorino, being a bulky Pokemon, could withstand the hit, but it still felt the pain. As the 'Sludge Wave' made contact with Electabuzz, it became poisoned. The 'Venom Drench' effect also activated, reducing its attack and speed.
Nidorino planned to use 'Poison Spread' and slowly finish off Electabuzz with 'Poison Damage Control'. However, Morgan intervened.
"Use 'Charge' to remove the poison," he commanded.
Electric current surrounded Electabuzz. 'Charge' usually increased a Pokemon's defense, but Electabuzz used its electric power to purge the poison from its body.
Nidorino, using 'Poison Spread', accelerated the poison's effect on its opponent. Electabuzz had to endure the poison while 'Charge' helped to cleanse its body. Eventually, Electabuzz overcame the poisoning.
Nidorino, experienced in countless battles and was not surprised by this development. It launched another move, inflicting further damage on Electabuzz.
The move was 'Earthquake'.
Nidorino had practiced this move extensively, and it was incredibly powerful. Axel had been working on improving the move's effectiveness, but Nidorino hadn't quite mastered it yet.
Now, Nidorino executed the move with full power, knowing it couldn't last much longer due to its previous injuries. It aimed to make every move count.
Nidorino unleashed the 'Earthquake,' causing the ground to split open and trapping Electabuzz within. The rocks around them sharpened, piercing the Pokemon's skin and muscles.
This 'Earthquake' had a different characteristic—it didn't have a wide coverage like a normal 'Earthquake' move, but it focused its destructive force on the area where Electabuzz stood. The move dealt a severe blow to Electabuzz.
---
Ding!
Nidorino's Earthquake has leveled up to 40. It can now concentrate its damage in a particular direction.
----
It seemed that Nidorino wouldn't be defeated so easily.
