Chapter 284 - The Last Battle Starts

Unlike 'Roost,' 'Morning Sun' didn't have any such weaknesses. However, the effectiveness of 'Morning Sun' relied heavily on the weather conditions. Therefore, if a user was a fire-type Pokemon, it would need to have sufficient mastery over 'Sunny Day' as well.

After some time, the effect of 'Roost' wore off, and Axel called off the battle, saying, "Charizard is unable to battle. Arcanine wins in the rare rank category. It will receive a reward after all the battles. For now, let's proceed with the elemental rank battle." Axel approached Charizard, and Nurse Joy came to its aid.

Honestly, it wasn't Charizard's fault. It had no knowledge of such an ability. Charizard possessed other moves like 'Iron Tail,' which weren't fire-type moves. If it had realized the mistake sooner, it might have emerged victorious.

Charizard also lost because Arcanine had extensive battle experience. Even though Charizard had fought valiantly in the previous round, it couldn't match Arcanine's years of experience.

Seeing Charizard's dejected expression, Axel decided to lift its spirits. "That Arcanine was practically an elemental rank Pokemon. Don't worry. You know you are strong, and if you want to become even stronger, you'll have to train harder."

"Roarr..."

"Yes, starting tomorrow, I will increase the intensity of your training. I can't have you losing to others like that next time."

They proceeded to draw lots again for the next battles in the elemental rank category. The first match was between Nidorino and Beedrill.

It was a closely fought battle. Nidorino initiated with 'Spinning Poison,' a bold move considering the time it took to activate, and Beedrill's speed advantage. However, Nidorino had a trick up its sleeve—a new move called 'Substitute' that it had learned specifically to counter 'Spinning Poison.' Nidorino managed to hold Beedrill at bay by repeatedly using the substitute move whenever Beedrill struck.

Eventually, when Nidorino unleashed the carefully planned attack, Alakazam intervened and teleported Beedrill to a safe distance, causing a massive explosion. As it was a friendly battle, Axel knew that 'Spinning Poison' would have seriously injured Beedrill.

Next up was the battle between Gogoat and Piloswine, which Gogoat won effortlessly. Gogoat had superior stats and a wealth of experience compared to Piloswine. Its newly learned move, 'Field Control,' proved to be a significant advantage. Axel realized that Gogoat's stat rank improvement was taking longer than expected, suggesting that its stats might not have been at an S rank before.

After a short rest, Nidorino and Gogoat faced off against each other. It was an intriguing match. Nidorino boasted impressive offensive and defensive stats, thanks to Axel's unwavering focus on its foundation. However, Gogoat possessed valuable experience and had been an elemental rank Pokemon for some time. After a fierce battle, Nidorino emerged victorious.

Its new move, 'Poison Spread,' played a crucial role in poisoning Gogoat early in the battle. Despite Gogoat's healing abilities from 'Field Control' and 'Grassy Terrain' and landing a 'Horn Leech' attack, the effects of the poison eventually took their toll, and Gogoat succumbed to Nidorino's superior defense.

Nidorino refrained from using 'Spinning Poison' due to its lengthy activation time, understanding that it couldn't rely on luck as it did in the previous battle. Both Pokemons were then taken care of by the Pokemons Center's nurse. The battle concluded in the late afternoon, leaving only one more match to be fought.

Shedinja and Alakazam stood facing each other in the arena. This was the battle Axel had eagerly anticipated. While Alakazam was undoubtedly stronger than Shedinja, the latter wasn't weak either. Shedinja's immunity to Psychic attacks and its complementary moves made it a formidable opponent. Axel examined Alakazam's stats after a long time.

After achieving the Pseudo-King rank, Alakazam focused on developing its two new moves. Most of its moves were at level 39 and required time to level up. 'Elemental Manipulation' had grown stronger, and Alakazam could now use 'Greater Telekinesis' in creative ways.

Initially, it could only disrupt the sound and wind of attacks, but now it had more capabilities. 'Elemental Manipulation' allowed Alakazam to summon five to six swords consecutively. It could even shape them into spears, and with each level-up, the swords became sharper.
