"Beedrill, use your 'Drill Run' with 'Poison jab'.", said Axel excitedly.
Aerodactyl was in a pinch right now. 'Drill run' was a ground type move. It may not have a good effect on the Pokemon like Aerodactyl but it was a powerful move.
'Drill run' increases the critical hit ratio and with Beedrill's ability of Sniper, its damage would increase by 3 times. But that was if Beedrill's ability 'Sniper' and its move 'Drill run' was mastered fully. But even crossing that Drill run was a powerful move.
With its 'Agility' increased by 2 times, Beedrill speed up, rotating its drill and coating poison in it. Just as Beedrill was about to hit it….
"Mira, use 'Stone edge'", said Flint
"Ohh fuck!!, Beedrill dodge it.", shouted Axel.
But this time Beedrill was unsuccessful. 'Stone Edge' hit Beedrill in the point-blank range.
"Beedrill use 'Roost', now.", said Axel
Even before Beedrill could register the pain, Axel told it to use 'Roost'.
And just as Beedrill used 'Roost', Axel recalled Beedrill and called out Shedinja.
This was a good move from Axel's side.
Roost may sound like an OP move, but there are 3 problems with it.
1. After using Roost, the Pokemon could not fly temporarily.
2. At the initial stage, Roost doesn't increase health by 50%. As of right now, Beedrill could increase health by 20%.
3. After some time from using Roost, the Pokemon would be severally weakened for some time. Roost would, therefore, forcibly heal the Pokemon in exchange for temporary weakness after some time.
That was why Axel took out Beedrill. If he had continued the battle, then Beedrill would have temporarily lost the ability to fly and after the battle even if it won, it would have been in a weakened state.
"That was an impressive move. Not many would even think to do that.", said Flint. He was genuinely impressed with Axel's planning in the battle.
As per the stats, Beedrill was more powerful than Aerodactyl but almost all of Aerodactyl's move was supper effective against Beedrill.
###
"What is this guy's problem? First Beedrill and now Shedinja?", said Dexos in a confused voice. The 2 Pokemons of Axel were thought of as 2 of the weakest Pokemons to ever exist.
"Beedrill did well in the battle. So Shedinja must be good too. I liked how he switched the Pokemons instantly.", said Miliot.
"Beedrill didn't do good, it was almost knocked out by Mira. But it was better than most of the Beedrills.", said Dexos.
As they were having small talk, Axel was already instructing Shedinja on what to do.
###
"Marcus, use your 'Hypnosis'"
Just as Aerodactyl was free from 'String shot' and 'Electroweb', It was hit with Level 24 'Hypnosis'. Aerodactyl was not injured seriously, but 'Hypnosis' with almost complete ghost core mastery was difficult to handle. It didn't fall asleep, but everyone noticed that it was drowsy with sluggish movement.
"Mira use 'Rock slide' again."
'Rock slide' was a rock type move and supper effective against Shedinja. But Shedinja had the best counter for it.
It was 'Shadow sneak'.
Coupled with its high speed and 'Shadow sneak' there was no way in hell that it would be hit. Cause, if Shedinja was hit with Rock slide, Axel would surely lose this gym challenge.
Shedinja lived up to the expectation and used 'Gust'.
Axel then realized that Shedinja didn't have a good attack-type move at this point. Except for 'Bug buzz' and 'Gust', there was not much to go on.
'Gust' was hit and it did medium damage to Aerodactyl. Aerodactyl was free again but Shedinja hit it with 'Hypnosis' again, and it was down for the count. It had fallen asleep.
"Marcus, use 'Dream eater'"
'Dream eater' was hit perfectly as the Pokemon was already asleep. Aerodactyl fell to the ground with a big THUD.
Flint was trying to wake Aerodactyl up cause, unlike Axel, He could not change his Pokemon.
At that exact time, Axel again did something unexpected. He called out Shedinja and send Beedrill again. Beedrill now had recovered from the side effect of 'Roost'. It was still injured but it had healed up a bit from 'Roost'.
"Beedrill now!!"
Axel didn't call out the name, but when Flint saw Beedrill using that attack, He grabbed the Pokeball to call out Aerodactyl. But unfortunately, the attack was hit and Aerodactyl fainted.
The attack move was 'Fell Stinger'
This may seem like a lot of time to explain, but it happened in a couple of seconds.
If 'Fell Stinger' is used and the opponent is knocked out, it sharply raises the user's attack. This was why Flint wanted to call out Aerodactyl and Axel didn't call out the name of the attack to give him a split-second advantage.
"The Gym leader had lost. Please send out the other Pokemon.", said the Referee.
"That was a good strategy. It had been a long time since I have been a part of such an exciting battle.", said Flint and threw the Pokeball.
"Ryyy" roared the Pokemon. It was Rhydon.
###
Meanwhile, Dexos and Miliot were amazed by the turn of the battle. They had not expected that the first loss would be of their teacher.
"That was….", started Miliot
"...Quite unbelievable.", finished Dexos. They have never thought that the result would be so drastically different. Not only Axel won, but Beedrill's attack had also sharply increased.
By then, Axel knew that he had already won the fight. He knew that Aerodactyl was the most dangerous for a good reason. Right now, the ground was littered with 'String shot'. Except for the few places it was filled with it. So, Rhydon's movement was limited and Beedrill with its fast movement would easily win this battle.
###
Flint asked Rhydon to start with 'Stone edge' but Axel had already predicted it. Cause he knew that Flint would not risk Rhydon with a physical attack move in which it shines.
Beedrill easily dodged that attack and applied 'Agility' 1 time. Its previous 2 'Agility' had already worn off.
"Beedrill, use 'String shot' on Rhydon"
"Rhydon dodge it"
But Rhydon was unsuccessful. Rhydon was not as fast as Aerodactyl. It did dodge the move but it was struck with String shot in the ground. Beedrill was again Struck with 'String shot'.
It was now just playing with the poor Pokemon. Beedrill would just fire 'String shot' and 'Electroweb' at Rhydon. Electric type move didn't have any effect on Rhydon but it was making Rhydon slow and trapped.
After a minute, Rhydon showed a pained expression. It had been poisoned.
###
"What?" shouted Miliot standing up.
"So, there was poison in the string shot. Quite a good tactic. I must have expected it.", said Flint.
While using the String shot in the ground, Beedrill had mixed it with poison. Rhydon is resistant to poison but not immune to it. After a minute of it, it was finally poisoned. Rhydon may be unable to move due to 'String shot' and 'Electroweb' but it was not injured too. So being poisoned helped it a lot.
"I guess I should take you seriously now. Rhydon, use 'Sunny day'", said Flint.
This was the first time that Flint was taking initiative in the battle and it freaked Axel out. The role of the gym leaders was not to win every battle but to judge the trainer's battle capabilities. So, even if gym leaders could win the battle from their vast experience, they would normally not do so. That was what Flint was doing. He was observing Axel's battle capabilities. But now he felt that he would try a little.
Back to the reason as to why Axel was freaked out. Why would a rock type Pokemon use Sunny day? There was only 1 reason for it and it must be that the rock type Pokemon have a fire type attacks in the arsenal. Rhydon could learn a lot of fire-type attacks and flamethrower was one of them. Flamethrower was a long-distance attack
and it would be super effective against Beedrill. So, it would be too risky to prolong this battle now. So, Axel decided to finish it.
"Beedrill use 'Drill run' and continue it until the battle finishes"
'Drill run' was a ground type move and it was supper effective against Rhydon. With Beedrill's increased attack power from 'Fell Stinger' and its ability 'Sniper', couple of 'Drill runs' would do the trick.
