Chapter 67 - Slaking (Edited)

The Slakoth which Althea had advised turned out to be an advanced potential. If Axel was here with his system, he would know that it was purple ranked. Bruno was happy when he found out about it. The potential of a Pokemon could be determined even if the Pokemon was in a Pokeball.

Bruno was happy with this development. One of the things that he was secretly worried about was the potential of Slakoth.

Slakoth was a Pokemon that sleeps 15-20 hours a day. It uses very little energy by doing so. It would only need 3 leaves a day to survive. One of the interesting things about its biology was its heart. It only beats once a minute. It was a very slow Pokemon.

Its next evolution, Vigoroth, was the exact opposite. Vigoroth heartbeats at a tenfold tempo and it cannot sit still even for a minute. Attempting to stand still or sleep raises its stress level and agitates its blood. It likes to go berserk by spinning its arms to destroy anything in its path. Due to its rampage, it was always hungry.

And the irony was its final evolution, Slaking, was the exact opposite of Vigoroth. Slaking was considered the laziest Pokemon ever known. One of the interesting things about it was, it was always saving energy. It can exert a lot of power by releasing built-up energy all at once. This phenomenon was what makes Slaking one of the most powerful non-legendary Pokemon in existence.

The release of the built-up energy was so powerful that it could even compare to one of the legendary Pokemon, Kyogre. This was recorded in the history books from ancient times so there was never scientific proof. The reason for that was, no one ever knows how powerful Kyogre was. It is one of the few legendaries who had the title of 'Destroyer of worlds'

So Bruno was worried about its potential cause if it could only train for 4-9 hours a day, it would take lots of time for it to be powerful. One of the main reasons why the trainer won't choose Slakoth was because of this.

It took a lot of time to train it. So, having a good potential minimized that time frame. But even if its potential was low, Bruno would not regret it. It was because of what its final evolution could do.

Bruno went to the training field. It was a normal size field and he was alone. He called out all of his Pokemons except for Slakoth. He told his Pokemons to stand behind him and threw the ball in the air.

It was a brown, quadrupedal Pokemon with Sloth-like qualities. It had coarse, shaggy fur with two dark brown stripes on its back. There was a scruff of fur on top of its head, and it had a large, pig-like pink nose, pink eyelids, and dark rings around its eyes. It had long, lanky arms, but shorter legs. Each paw had two sharp claws, and there were pink paw pads on the back feet.

It was Slakoth

"Slak… Slakoth.", it said moving its head around and observing the field.

Meanwhile, Bruno was staring at Slakoth with cold eyes. When Slakoth finally found who summoned it, Bruno knelt down on one knee and said,

"Slakoth, I have chosen you to be my next Pokemon. I know you have many doubts about me, but I would like you to give me a chance to prove myself. My dream is to be the strongest Pokemon trainer and I want us to help each other in this journey. I know others call you slow or lazy Pokemon, but I would show the world how mighty a lazy Pokemon could be."

After finishing his speech, there was silence in the field. Meanwhile, his 3 old Pokemon were surprised. They had noticed the change in personality of their trainer from the past month but this was too much. Their trainer had just knelt down and requested a lazy Pokemon to be his team.

This was a massive change in Bruno's personality. The Pokemon looked lazy and weak. Why was their trainer so respectful to this weak Pokemon? Has he finally gone crazy? But they didn't know how powerful its final evolution was.

Slakoth was a king Pokemon. Naturally, it had its pride. It may be lazy and sleepy, but it would never let its pride down. This was the reason Bruno was kneeling down and showing it some respect.

After some time, Slakoth agreed to Bruno and it was introduced to its new team members. Bruno ran to Althea and showed his progress. It became the first trainer to subdue his Pokemon and got the rewards.

He got 1000 points and a food recipe for all his Pokemons. Over time, Bruno came to know how effective food recipes could be. But he never had any money to buy one as it was very expensive. The food recipe of the Pidgey line, Zubat line, and Scyther line was a personal gift from Althea to Bruno. Althea was impressed with Bruno's choice of picking up Slakoth as he was the only person to do so. Except for Bruno, none of the people had picked up Slakoth as they knew it would be the hardest one to train.

But since Slakoth was a lazy Pokemon it was the easiest to subdue. Bruno thanked Althea for her generosity and left the room. It had only taken him 30 minutes to subdue Slakoth and he was miles ahead from the second place.

The second and the third place belonged to the trainers who already had a Pokemon. Having a Pokemon for defense increased their chances to subdue the Pokemon easily.

But Bruno didn't know about this as he just went to sleep. It was already evening when Althea gave her little speech and now it was dark. Tomorrow was a big day and Bruno always took a good rest before an important day.
