Chapter 21 - Friendship as fragile as glass

Grr..I have to find a weak spot. AH..! there! I summoned my staff to my hand again and dashed inhumanely, Nainai smirked summoning her spirit weapon, the one she'd never shown me even in the past 5 years. "WHAT?!"

"HEhehehehe~ " Nainai cackled with that serpent tongue of hers sticking out, I saw her perfectly built posture and frame, that's strange...I thought Master was undeveloped, but then why is her posture so perfect and natural as if she'd been doing it for years? My eyes faded into a bright magenta color as I used Scarlet Gaze, The energy that was being emitted from her body was ginormous it covered more than 10,000 square feet. Almost more than half the village was covered by her energy.

Master isn't normal. Then I can go all out on her, I thought she was just a wrinkly old lady wanting to play for a while with a little girl, but now I'm sure. I pounced from there and stabbed my staff on the ground harshly, and swung around it kicking the air since she'd dodged, I used my first spirit skill with something in mind. "First Spirit Skill! Medusa Snake Infestation!" I shouted they pounced onto Nainai as she shrieked for a while and then liberated herself from them.

She lunged towards me with her fox spirit, the attack recently caught her off-guard, now making her more impulsive. As I thought. She's getting anxious. I smirked as I swung my staff and pointed it at her, she looked at me with a puzzled expression but then changed to a pale one. "Heh..."

I've got her now. I thought, the snake I'd ordered to hide earlier waited for further orders and sprawled out hissing at Nainai, If this keeps going on I'll be done for!--

"Hey LI JINGYI!! You're student here got to level 40! You oughta help him find a spirit ring!" Alan chortled loudly, Nainai took advantage of my surprise and kicked my abdomen as I fell down. The snake hurled onto Nainai's Neck groping onto it tightly, Nainai was starting to tremble from the loss of air.

"Ugh...Nainai!" I ran over to her quickly and whispered a short incantation to the snake as it went back into the staff, I examined Nainai's neck and glared at Alan. He whistled looking elsewhere, I honestly didn't know how he even managed to be a principal for that long.

"This little kid right here managed to get to Level 40 real quickly," Alan smacked Xiao Wei's back until he fell on his knees, "Alan, control your strength," Nainai told him, he smiled nervously and blushed.

I walked over to Xiao Wei and helped him up, "Jie...Jie..?" His eyes sparkled and glimmered as if he'd seen me for the first time, I smiled and patted his head tenderly. "Yes, Xiao Wei?" I answered, She looked like Jiejie for a second...he broke free of my grip and walked over to Alan, hiding behind him. What's wrong? Did I do something I shouldn't have? But what?

"Then we should get him a Ring on it soon,"

"Let's go tomorrow morning,"

"Right...Yu Yan, Come with me," Nainai ordered, I turned to the droopy Xiao Wei and saw his fleeting frowning expression.

"You'll be paired up with Xiao Wei tomorrow and help him pick out a spirit ring, the one the will most likely fit him would be...blah blah blah..."

------------------------

I wondered all day if I'd done something wrong, Had I been rude to him? What had I done to make him so sad? I wish I could figure it all out, sometimes I feel like I don't know him at all when he acts like that. Come to think of it, I don't know much about him.

"Yu Yan, What's been on your mind lately?" Qiqi observed, I couldn't help but be lost in thought all day. My face expressed hurt all over, that was the first time Xiao Wei had rejected me.

"Qiqi, what do you do if...you can't figure out why someone would be angry at you?" I blurted out, she sighed sliding next to me on the bed. She sat there looking out the window with me, gazing at the stars late at night the reflections on her eyes made her seem to look bright. I looked up at them in hopes, that I'd be able to find an answer.

"...Xiao Yan...You can't expect to know the answer to everything, sometimes you must live it to one day tell it," She replied tenderly, it was the first time I'd seen an expression of longing on her face, She'd always seem so cold and indifferent. Her gaze caused the others to steer away from her, but for some reason, I could still see the bits of emotions left in her and they were raging to get out every day.

"Thank you..." I whispered in a hushed voice that you wouldn't even hear me if I said it again, she kept gazing at the stars as I placed my head on her shoulder and we stayed up gazing at the sky all night.
